THE FOOL
she was empty.

leaping alone, never looking back for others will grant you distance.

zero.

he said the fool was a card of endless possibility, but how could it be when it was represented by the number zero? zero was nothing, zero was indivisible. zero was a calculator error, zero was the void.

the fool was not represented by a number, unlike all the other cards. it was zero, nonexistent. in a way, she supposed, it was like her. when she thought about it as she’d stare up at her bedroom ceiling, she realized that it was a perfect match for her.

the fool was empty and she was empty. she felt hollow on the inside, like if someone were to rasp their knuckles against her alabaster skin, they would find that there was nothing inside her. no joy, no sadness, no hope.

even her name was empty. 有無, having nothing. the day her mother named her solidified her destiny to walk on a desolate road, stretching on for miles and miles, alone.

it was sad, her fate, but it was something she accepted long ago. she would no longer dwell on it, she decided as she rolled onto her side and held the plush toy to her chest, the dead and empty silence of the countryside failing to lull her to sleep. she knew she was empty, she accepted it.

so why was she unable to hold back the tears that rolled down her cheeks?

however, how far you go is irrelevant. it all starts with a leap of faith.
