SM Entertainment releases official statement on Super Junior Kangin's DUI investigation + announces hiatus

On May 24, SME sent a press release, confirming his DUI and announcing Kangin's hiatus:

"This is SM Entertainment.
Kangin's DUI accident is true. He went to the police station this afternoon after being contacted and was investigated at the scheduled time.
Kangin is deeply reflecting after this incident. He'll be taking time to reflect and stopping all entertainment-related activities.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for causing worry."

As previously reported, Kangin was driving under the influence of alcohol when he hit a streetlight and fled the scene. In related news, Kangin was also charged with a DUI and hit and run in 2009.

It looks like fans will have to wait for Kangin to return.

Amy's Note : What do you think guys?.. As a 10 years ELF, to be honest. Im ashamed and disappointed. I believe in him and i've never thought that he will do it again. His DUI hit and run in 2009 is still on fire by K-netz and now he had done it again. My trust on him has broken completely that i can't even back him up this time but i want to back him up still, i didn't know how but one things for SURE, im proud and glad that he surrender himself to the police. I can't do much but i really hope he reflect to this seriously this time because i love him, i love Super Junior and i don't want just because of their carelessness, everything is doom!..

I'm sad , really sad , he is not only hurting himself , he is hurting the others too , they have been cleaning up his since 2009 and he cant just cease , he is in his 30s he needs to get his ing self together.
I'm sure he lost their trust but I believe in another chance.

Tho I still respact him for going to the police. and glad it was just a light not a person or hell is going to break loose.

I dont trust SM and I think this hiatus is just a way to cover up them kicking him out saddly.
Hope he wont hurt himself , he is such a sweetheart but his actions is out of hand.

You can't make the same mistake twice. the second time you make it it's no longer a mistake. It's a choice.
That's all I have to say.

Its dissapointed. I am mad and sad at the same time like seriously kangin get yourself together? im not hating on him, its kind of how i tell you all my disappointed feel. I really ed up with this, my heart hurts seeing him with his accident and seeing him drag other members to this too. He even told us at aasj that he really dont want to drag the whole group for his mistakes.. smh kangin its a nightmare, i was trembling so much when i read this. Im afraid my words would make people offended. Im afraid of anything!
this DUI accident is really bad and hard to tolerate. SM make him to go hiatus and in this state, Leeteuk and others will fix it as much as they can because they loves kangin so much like how they loves their real brother! i feel bad for everyone esp leeteuk, he as a leader will take so much action for this be forgiven. he would do anything so kangin can be forgiven. he is such a sweetheart.

noted it: i am not hating kangin and i am not wanting him leave group. I wont turn my back because of this too. i just want kangin to realize what he did wrong and learn! He is almost 32, he is a grown man! Kangin is a type of someone that should always be warned for not doing something that would crossing the lane. that is him. god kangin, pls dont make us tired anymore. Please kangin, if you do think about super junior, your family also fans.. Please fix it. I cant hope much honestly, i dont want anything bad happen but i want the best for them. If there will be something bad happen for their best, please accept and respect it. we cant do anything in this state and i hate it so much. My head hurts for today. kangin, idk anymore i honestly want you to show up and tell us anything. Now i just want every members are safe. i just want them all to be fine. Please be fine and talk about it in a good way. Im still trying to be positive, guys ;___;

Yes, humans make mistakes. But human or not he made the conscious decision to not only put himself at risk but others as well, all I can say is I'm very disappointed in him. He has done this twice now and the first time was obviously not enough for him to control himself in a good manner. I very warily defended him the first time he did this, but, he did not learn from what happened then and he needs to learn now.

disappointed of course it's your own opinion, but please, I'm begging you here , please he's a human for God's sake, I know what he did is a huge mistake specially it's the second time, but he's still a human , and humans make mistakes, I'm sorry but seriously we should hearhis point of view, since he's kinda trumatic after 2009 and he was trying so hard to be good again, it must be something wrong in the first place, i don't know but i never believe anything not just for suju but even daily life , you can't believe anything except if you hear both point ofview :(don't give up on him now , he needs us the most

... well ...
I wasn't an ELF when he got his first DUI and now... honestly, I'm not entirely sure how to feel. but I know that sometimes there's the mindset of "ohhhh if oppa does something wrong it's no big deal" and to those people who think that, or to those people who are more concerned about his health and are happy that he's just okay, I agree up to an extent. I'm happy that he's okay too and I realize he's a human being and humans make mistakes, but... drunk driving isn't something that can be just glanced over. whatever happens to him and Super Junior now, I just hope there won't ever be a third time.

I disappointed of course... but to think that he was so 'timid' and 'scared' of alcohol when he first come back, i'm mmore worried than disappointed. Why he did it again? What will happen to him now? How his feeling? How the members reacted to this... >_<

Hey,
I'm still comparably new in this fandom and thus haven't even heard about Kangin's first accident. I understand where you're coming from, that it's getting difficult to fight for Kangin and to support him right now nevertheless, and I, too, hope he will take this time to reflect on this incident and to not drink and drive again. Who knows what could happen next time?
I am not entirely aware of their current schedules, but since they are idols in the K-Pop industry and are with SM Entertainment, I have a feeling their schedules are still very tight. I would hope for SME to loosen up their schedules a little - in general. Just to enable them to sleep more, their managers to rest better and cause less accidents. Maybe, since trainees are oftentimes still teenagers or even children, they should also start offering courses about how to properly behave outside the company, this might also help decrease the number of accidents. Then again, this is not only something SME would need to work on, it's a problem of the K-Pop industry and Korean mentality in general.
I also believe it is unfair for K-netz to still go after Kangin for his accident. Do netizens do it when other idols or even politicians do that? Do they still go after managers years after they drove in an extremely tired state and caused great accidents that occasionally even killed band members? I think K-netz should calm down about it. Kangin's human nevertheless, things like this do happen all the time and no one bats an eye. If they go after Kangin that harshly, they need to go after everyone like this and reach out to organs that can change something. Only complaining about it on the internet usually doesn't help.

I truly hope Kangin nevertheless learns from this second minor accident (at least I hope the accident in 2009 was a minor one as well) and that he won't drink and drive again so we won't end up hearing about him having crashed too hard one day.

Really sad to hear it :( 2 strikes already. I thought the previous one will be his last.
