Page Turner: Thoughts

Page Turner.

Did you ever have something that you really want to do?

Did you ever have something worth fighting for? worth skipping sleep? worth getting bruises?

Dreams. That's what they are.

No matter how simple or how far-fetched that dream is. It's something you own solely.

So, why am I talking about this?

I don't really watch dramas often, I just watch them when I feel like it -- or if my curiosity reaches a whole new feat that I just have to click the play button to fill it.

Roughly 3 hours ago, I somehow got myself to click play, thinking that it was to ease my boredom - just a show to please my eyes. But now, I don't think it's that way anymore. Yes, I've seen lots of videos and people talking about how short the series is, or how hanging the ending was. But to me, it was just perfect. The three episodes were enough to convey meaningful messages and life-lessons that teens (like myself) should learn to appreciate.

Enough with the background-

Yoo Seul was, no doubt, a prodigy, a music genius. I was impressed at how she played by ear, and how she plays with emotions. As a pianist (my level is not that high tho-), I do believe that the most important part of playing the piano is not the complicated trills nor the tempo at which you play, it is how the audience will feel when they hear you play. Playing without feeling anything is just like walking without anywhere to go. Your hands would keep pressing and pounding, but in the end, there is no fulfillment -- bare, empty.

I understand that she was fed up, longing for her mother, confused at how her life turned out to be. Yes, her words sound sharp and mean most of the time, and she tends to scream a lot, but I guess that was the only way she could release her pent-up emotions. She couldn't say anything to her mom, because she didn't want to hate her (as she had said), and I feel that it was also because she loved her mom, more than anything.

Playing the piano may be a dream chosen by her mom, but the piano chose her. Her face when she plays looks so calm and lost- as if the music took her to another world. The awards probably didn't matter, but the piano did. It was something she was good at, something she was attached to for so long. Her thoughts of quitting was probably just the effect of all the stress and her emotions, deep inside, her heart belonged with the piano.

Chasik was a really lively kid. He has such a positive outlook in life. It was amazing. He always managed to look at the bright side even if everyone was putting him down, even if his back couldn't handle sports anymore, even if he lived with his single mom. The greatest thing about him is that he BELIEVES.

There may be times that he fell down (esp. when he actually attempted suicide), but he managed to get back up. His determination to learn the piano was outstanding, and his love for his mom was overflowing  (esp in the last episode when he found out that the famous pianist guy wasn't really his dad). He cares for other people a lot, and sees through masks (I teared up at the scene when he asked Yoo Seul to repeat the compliments and even comforted Jin Mok after the latter played for him). He was the perfect bestfriend material.

The parents.

Yoo Seul's mom - From what I can see, she wanted the best for Yoo Seul, but maybe that want went a little too far. Her intentions where good, but I think she just overlooked what Yoo Seul felt. Yes, she made her mistakes and had said things that weren't really pleasant, but she was very supportive mom. Even though her daughter tried pushing her away, she was persistently showing up, still strong, and wanted to be with her daughter, even if she will never know.

Chasik's mom - Her white lie was what started everything. Lie is a lie and nothing can change that, but what she did was what made her son stand back up, believing that he could still do something. Her son was good at his sport, it was his life. That being taken away from him seemed hard for her to bare, too. Her lie came back to her with a lesson - to believe in herself.

Jin Mok's dad - I don't really have much to say about him since he only appeared a few short times, but I know he has his reasons as to why he was so tight on his son. OKAY.

Seo Jin Mok.

I don't know why but his part of the whole series was what tugged at my heart strings. I do admit that I've always had the second male lead syndrome. He was a very talented guy, but he was doubting himself. He was under pressure (probably because of the competition and expectations) and he was always put down by (partly, Yoo Seul) his dad. As I have learned personally, self-doubt will eat you. When you doubt your own talent, having a mindset that you can't do it or thinking that what you do is always less than anyone else's, it would consume you until you lose everything - confidence, health, and even friends.

When you feel like giving up, think of all the reasons why you shouldn't.

When you fall down, work hard and make sure you go up twice as high as you were before.

Never let your own doubt stop you.

Never let self-pity eat you.

You are more than what other people say.

You can do more than what you think you can do.

Do what you love to do.

If you haven't fount yours yet, then wait patiently. It will come to you.

DREAM.

Never stop believing.

Never back down.

Because you can do it.

Fate is an excellent page turner. When it's the right time, fate will turn your life to the next page.

SOOOOO. I can't believe that I typed this out of feels. HHAHAHAHA

To those who actually read the whole thing, thank you for taking your time to read my nonsensical blabber.

I really don't know what came to me. Mian~

/crawls awei.

Funny because I just finished Page Turner the night before I woke up to this. Isn't it amazing how a three episode drama can teach and show us so much? The characters were so distinctive and instead of trying to predict what will happen, the drama moved at the perfect pace and you can never tell what was going to happen
