"Oh no, you're perfect the way you are": a statement that irritates me.

There are times when I get irritated by things, this is one of them.

Person 1: I noticed that I am getting wrinkles under my eyes, maybe I should get some eye cream.

Person 2: Oh no you look pretty just the way you are, you don't need those creams.

Person 1: Oh, ok.

A few months later, Person 1 develops anxiety due to low self esteem.

Person 1: I really think that I should get my eye wrinkles treated.

Person 2: Oh no you look pretty just the way you are, you don't need any treatments.

While working, person 1 is approached by a co worker who says

co worker: You look extremely tired.

Person 1: what? but I feel energetic.

Co worker: Oh... well...

Person 1 consults person 2 again, but recieves the same responce

Person 2: Oh no you look pretty just the way you are.

This is a more toned down example of what I am trying to get to. If a person does not feel confortable in their own skin, telling them this statement will just irritate them, especially if their feelings are being mirrorred by the world around them.

What I find annoying about the whole "you're good enough as you are" is if there is nothing behind it. I mean I say it a lot, but I won't say it without something to back it up. It's one thing to just pander to someone's insecurities, but it's another to challenge them. And I think you can say "You're beautiful just as you are" and still challenge those insecurities in a positive way.

Oh yeah, hearing that all the time... that's why I don't wish to consult other people about how I look. If I am insecure about something, I want to fix it on my own. If person 1 is insecure about her wrinkles, she can consult with a dermatologist, skincare expert or even a cosmetic surgeon that can administer injections for wrinkles.

If I were to respond to person 1 saying she has wrinkles, I'd ask her how she feels about them and if she wants to have something done to them.
