Edit your stories. Please!???

I understand that grammar is not everyones cup of tea. So if you are going to write a story and you hope that people will read it, edit your story or get someone to proofread your creation. I have had enough of the lazy and lame excuses of "I didn't edit my story. I just had to update." That's bull. If a subscriber has to ask the author if this character is a man or woman, because author is not reading over their work and then tells you "You must be confused." Yeah cause author you have just confused me. I am tired of reading these poorly grammared stories. If you can't spell don't write a story. We have all been to grade school to spell and I am not referring to writers from other countries even though you all should get a beta reader for your stories too. I see it like this if you can spell "" or "" well, then you should be able to spell and know the difference between heal and heel. Waste and waist. Come on writers raise the bar on your stories by editing the story, letting someone you trust to proofread, a dictionary with a thesaurus or use spellcheck if you have WORD or Google docs.

Heal= a term used to rid someone of a sickness. Cure to all ailments. Ex. "She can heal the sick."

Heel= the back of the foot. Ex. "I bought a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels."  "I am head over heels in love with her."

Waste= whatever is left that is no longer edible, usable etc. "Please put the carton in the wastebasket."

Waist... need I say more???

I am ranting about this because I look forward to reading the stories that have piqued my interest. A story that could possibly receive an upvote from me. A story that I can refer to someone else to read. But simple grammar is the requirement. All you subscribers that read these stories need to say something about it. It's like getting that chocolate pie that Octavia Spencer made in that movie "The Help" that her clients loved and then come to find that it has in it.

I am only saying this with tough love.

XOXO ~ oceans of it.

I am cracking up because I know exactly which story you're talking about. I saw your comment there and went back to see if I could find the inconsistencies since I didn't notice the first time. Sure enough, I saw it! I was dissatisfied with the author's response... I was wondering if they were embarrassed or something and tried to cover it up. Then the next chapter was flat out incomprehensible, so I just unsubscribed. I don't have time for deciphering stories. If you want to write a story for others to read, then they should be able to read it, dammit! The grammar (and spelling) doesn't have to be complicated, it just has to be correct. Dassit. Damn!

Like jazzyqu33n, I reread and edit my chapters more than once before I post them. Then, I get extremely upset if I find more mistakes after and can't help myself from going in and edit it again. But I know it's probably unrealistic to expect that of all writers so as long as the stories are readable without the grammatical/spelling errors getting too annoying, I still read them.

Amen. I get upset with myself when I reread a chapter I posted and find errors. Mine tend to be typos because I have false nails. Lol I try to go back and change what I catch. Others should too.

Wayment. The writing was so had that you couldn't discern the gender of the character?! For real?!

Also, *applause*

Lazy grammar drives me nuts. It's like some people use the talk to text feature on their phone to write the stories. It can't tell between homonyms, or the writer can’t. Either way, I don’t bother with them.

As an editor myself, I can kind of see why that would bother you. And it's true that I have stopped reading some titles because of extremely poor grammar. But sometimes we have to accept that some people are just writing for fun. They may not want to put in the same amount of work you or I would to write a good story. And that's ok... If it bothers me too much I just won't read it.

Question: would you read a story that was written badly on purpose? As in, to demonstrate part of the story, pieces of it had to be written poorly? One of my favourite stories ever is a book called Daz 4 Zoe, and it's a story told in dual narrative. In Zoe's portions, she writes as one would in the Queen's English. But Daz rites ow he wud speek n itz coz he dont ave no gud ejucashun so wen he rites der aint no grama or punchuashun or aneefinn.

In a scenario such as that, would atrocious grammar and spelling be acceptable to you?
