40 Questions Tag

Since I was tagged by Lisa, I'll be tagging dobibaby, evernight, wonpei (LOLOL I SCREAM), ygsmjypfam, taeyeonsundaes, and, um, anyone who wants to do this.

Describe your comfort zone—a “typical you” fic.
I've been really into those realistic but not realistic scenarios––like let me write about the heartwrenching struggles about catboy!Minseok, or a doll that suffers internal conflicts every time that it turns human. Wait, is this called...fantasy?

Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
MAMA!au. If you combine Tao's time control with Jongin's teleportation, would you be able to time travel? I saw this theory on Tumblr so yeah ;^)

Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot pole?
I'll be honest here for a second. Historical doesn't appeal to me, but if your story's good regardless of that genre, I'll still read it.

How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now?  Care to share one of them?
I don't know, actually. There's an extremely long Luhan one-shot that I plan to do which involves peer pressure, racism, etc., and I'm basically using my life story as a base (like 25%).

Share one of your strengths.
Hmmmmmm.

Share one of your weaknesses.
Action. How do I describe a fight scene? Help a fam out.

Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Lithe limbs move in calculated directions, and Taehyung finds himself entranced by his reflection in the mirror.

He loves this.

He loves the way every beat seeps into his skin, the way his bones comply to his will as he immerses himself into the music. Another elaborate step is showcased, then another, and he continues until his body begs for a respite and the roof of his mouth resembles a taste like copper.

–"Ramblings of a Madman"

Taehyung's obsession with dancing is very clear in this snippet.

Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
Minseok grabs an extra controller and seats himself next to her.

"Jongdae texted me a moment ago and he said he'd come here in two hours," he says, and Amber purses her lips, "but Yixing can't make it so I guess it'll just be the three of us."

Amber snorts. "What are we going to do until Jongdae arrives?"

"This," Minseok presses a button on his controller and the Call of Duty lobby appears on the television screen, "is what we'll do for the time being."

"And after we're finished?"

"We can go outside and stuff."

"And do what? Frolick across the flowers?"

"That's close, but we can just go the forest and practice shooting with my BB guns," Minseok says. When Amber doesn't reply, he steals a glance in her direction and realizes that she has been staring at him incredulously. "I'm only kidding, Am. But there's really a forest behind my backyard and we can do those weird nature walks that you like."

"Minseok?"

"Yeah?"

"You do understand that the sun's been down since, I don't know, my mom dropped me off here?"

-"Won't You Keep it a Secret?"

The conversation's light-hearted and very easy to read in my eyes. It's a "calm before the storm" situation since Amber's going to be lost in the forest soon :^)

Which fic has been the hardest to write?
"Obscure Lines" because how can I write teacher!Kyungsoo and a female student's odd affiliation with him without blatantly describing the attraction going on?

Which fic has been the easiest to write?
Do drabbles count? But even those are hard LOL.

Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?
Are they not the same thing?

Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
Certain pictures elicit feels for a member, which will inspire me to write something for him.

What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

"Don’t Pussyfoot Around Your Verbs and Adjectives (Or: Avoid Nominalization)

Nominalization occurs when a writer uses a weak noun equivalent when a stronger verb or adjective replacement is available. Like expletives, nominals usually introduce other unnecessary words when used.

Count the number of words in the before-and-after examples below, and you will witness how badly nominals weaken your writing:

Give your post a proofread – Proofread your post (verb form)
Alcohol is the cause of hangovers – Alcohol causes hangovers (verb form)
The plane’s approach was met with the scramble of emergency crews – The plane approached and emergency crews scrambled. (verb form)
He shows signs of carelessness – He is careless (adjective form)
She has a high level of intensity – She is intense (adjective form)"

-"7 Simple Edits That Make Your Writing 100% More Powerful"

What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
“Make it very descriptive."

It only works for some stories.

If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
"Along Came You" because that's probably the most filmable fic I've written.

If you could only write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?
Either Baekhyun x Taeyeon or EXO x Amber (leaning more towards Kris but....).

Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
For Mastermind, I write down scenes that I want to incorporate into a chapter before I lose them. Other than that, all my fics are written chronologically.

Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?
I used to use liftlift.com until I found hiveword.com.

Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement.  Do you have a muse?
HD scans of a member are all I need as my muses.

Describe your perfect writing conditions.
A timer and an actual word count goal.

How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
I edit as I write so it takes me a long time to post.

Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style?

August 30, 2015

If Yerim had heeded her friends' concerns about dating the oddball, Park Chanyeol, then maybe she wouldn't be running away from him desperately in the middle of the night. Dimly lit lamposts flickered over her skin as her legs picked up their pace; the once steady beats of her heart now thumping into an unstable rhythm.

Yerim knew she was screwed when she reached a dead end in the street.

"Babe." His breath hovered over the back of her neck. "I told you I was in the mafia, didn't I?"

February 3, 2016

There were many things Yerim regretted, but never had she imagined dating Park Chanyeol to be one of them. If she'd heeded Baekhyun's concerns, listened to his complaints which she so casually brushed off, then maybe she wouldn't be running away from her very own boyfriend in the middle of the night.

And it was going well, honestly, until Yerim had reached a dead end in the street.

"Babe," Chanyeol shook his head, twirling a strand of her hair, "I told you that some things are confidential, didn't I?"

If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

I never completed any fics AHHHH.

Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
I've deleted one, but many drafts were deleted as well.

What do you look for in a beta?
The ability to talk about plots.

Do you beta yourself?  If so, what kind of beta are you?
Yes, I make myself revise a sentence until I'm satisfied.

How do you feel about collaborations?
At least know about correct dialogue punctuation or something LOL.

Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
I can only think about "SJsuperholic" and "kfanfiction" right off the bat. I like them because of their writing style, and by that I mean the variation of sentence structures and other stuff.

If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Uhhhhh, I can't think right now, but I crave a prequel for jongupper's "ignorance is your new best friend" fic like hello? It's gold...AND IT HAS KRIS AND AMBER.

Do you accept prompts?
I must run.

Do you take liberty with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
Lemme just do whatever.

How do you feel about ?
I already have enough sins on my plate.

How do you feel about crack?
They're usually written well.

What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?
I already have enough sins on my plate.

Would you ever kill off a canon character?
Death is inevitable for everyone.

Which is your favorite site to post fics?
l really want to try livejournal but I'm so confused with that site.

Talk about your current WIPs.
Can I run from this, too? LOLOL JULIE I LOVE YOU DON'T WORRY!!!

Talk about a review that made your day.
Julie, when you expressed your interest about my fic ideas, that made me smile 'cause you're so encouraging ;^;

Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?
I never reviewed my story at any shop, haha.

Write an alternative ending to [a fic of yours] (or just the summary of one).
That'll be giving away spoilers! Lisa, I know you extremely dislike them :^)
