personality :: min-kyu is usually a very nice and cheerful spirit, always trying to cheer people up if they're down. mainly the mood setter of the group, she takes her position as the bright one very seriously. careless, fiery and blunt at times, min-kyu uses her charasmatic and captivating personality to hide how anxious and clumsy she truly is. fanciful, aspiring and determined, she is sure to achieve her dreams and capture the hearts of people everywhere whilst reaching for the stars. although childish and gullible, she is also known for her brillant way of thinking and her bright smile. min-kyu often tries to mask her anxiety out of fear it would make everyone else angry, not wanting to upset those around her or even worse, disappoint them if she ever messes up. despite having taken her lead dancer very seriously, she can be careless when attempting dances or the like and end up hurt somehow. even though she doesn't show it she's a sensitive girl who just wants to be reassured and comforted by those around her.

background :: min-kyu was born on november 2, 1990 to lee soolgi and lee wonhoon in orange county, california. she and her family were refugees, and were in a group of other refugees, who at the time were planning to go to kuwait because it was closer to get back to korea that way, and not wanting to be left on their own her family went with them; but what they didn't know was at the time a war had started in kuwait called the gulf war, and they'd moved into a complete battle zone.
min-kyu and her family spent the two years that the war went on stuck in kuwait because they couldn't find a way to leave during it. the gulf war left a very heavy fear in both min-kyu who was around one to two years old after it was done, and her family.
but despite their fear, they knew they needed to leave kuwait as quickly as they could and moved to south korea. min-kyu was a more happy child once they were in a safer place, and she grew up healthily as well. min-kyu had two older sisters, eun-kyu and jin-kyu, born on the same day and month as min-kyu, who loved their little sister very much and were the ones who'd gotten her into music in the first place.
around the age of five, min-kyu's mother put her in ballet with her sisters, min-kyu enjoying the sweet ballad music and cute toddled dancing enough to want to ask her mother if she could be put in an actual dancing group when she was older, to which her mother agreed to happily, loving that her daughter enjoyed the dancing so much. ballet was a fun thing for min-kyu, although her sisters didn't enjoy it like she did, she loved twirling around and being the center of attention, and made it known. she often got the lead part in the small preformances they did as the girls grew bigger and were put into another age group ballet class, and by the time she was eight, she'd developed dancing as a passion, as well as singing, which she was completely absorbed in.
many of the girls in her classes would bully min-kyu because of her name originally being that of a males as well as the fact she'd been a refugee, but min-kyu simply smiled their way and delve deeper into music to cope with the sadness she felt as such a young age. at the age of ten, min-kyu had began to sing and dance even more, her parents and sisters worried for her health since it'd gotten to the point where min-kyu wouldn't eat for a day or two and only sleep if she needed to go to school. despite her depresson, she still put on her beautiful smile and ignored the torment she faced in her classes, knowing that some day she would be someone great in the world.
before her birthday was when min-kyu overheard sm was having audition for trainees, from a group of girls who liked to gossip quite a bit, and at first she hadnt believed them but when she saw it on t.v for herself, she knew it had to be what she was waiting for. after begging her parents, who were very hesitant at first since they knew who ran sm; but when they say the determination in min-kyu's eyes, they couldn't say no.
helping min-kyu with her audition video was hard, and when she was told to go to the building to properly auditon, it was even harder. but it didn't matter to min-kyu, and sshe saw it as a challenge she could face and did so, with her head held high, she sang and danced in front of the room of cameras and judges, and after she'd finished and a week had passed, she got a call back from them saying she was accepted as a trainee.
