{★} rina is always determined to achieve what she sets out to do. because she thinks that everything is earned by hard work and not by chance, she rarely gives up until she has her desired goal wrapped around her hands. she has understood the concept of taking matters into her own hands since her young childhood years and has acted on that ever since. because she learns things fairly quickly, she usually does not take long to master a particular subject - as a result, she mastered flower arranging, tea ceremony, and ballet (all fields that a rich little girl needs to know) before her twelfth birthday and the cello and traditional chinese dance before her sixteenth. as long as she is determined to do something, she doesn't stop until she has perfected it.

{★} rina is also very, very, very sociable. she has been in the spotlight since birth, so public speaking and being in the center of attention hardly bothers her. in fact, she has grown to love the attention and she oftentimes is the one to initiate a conversation. as long as the person she's talking to speaks the same language, rina can form an amicable relationship with almost anyone, even those who are decades older than her and those who don't have the same interests. sometimes, she talks a little too much and may seem noisy (okay. she is noisy), but generally, she can get along with most people. her brother likes to say that "whenever she goes into something, she always comes out with at least one friend." rina takes pride in her extrovert personality a little too much.

{★} rina is one of the most competitive people you will ever meet. she turns anything and everything into a competition. "oh, you're driving faster than me? I'll show you that my car is faster" (that resulted in an unfortunate speeding ticket). another time when the members are eating, her competition resulted in several stomachaches from the members eating too fast. the bad thing about her competitiveness is that she refuses to back down, especially in fights or arguments. even though internally she acknowledges that she's the one wrong, she doesn't try to admit it and it creates tensions between the group members. she bears grudges for a long time, so if a member doesn't apologize first, she will continue staying mad at the member until she gets an apology. only then does she admit her mistakes and make up. although it sometimes brings out the monster in rina, her competitiveness generally leads her to accomplishing "great things" such as learning to eat faster between busy schedules and dressing quickly in the morning.

{★} rina is both vain and spoiled. the vain character is probably why she is uncom-passionate about the things she doesn't care about. whatever it is, she blames her spoiled side on her easy life as the daughter of a fairly wealthy businessman and her vain side simply on her "beautiful appearance" and her "good reputation." usually, those close to her or those who know of her princess personality will let her act the way she does, but those who are unfamiliar with her will think badly of her. i mean, who can blame them? anyone who meets rina for the first time and sees her with expensive designer clothes, a versace bag, and diamond-studded earrings will immediately dismiss her as someone vain. not that she cares, she even takes pride in her vanity. her spoiledness has a beneficial side though; she likes to treat the other members to countless vacations and good food.

background

rina was born in paris, france to a model mother and a businessman father. six years before she was born, her father moved to paris to start an advertising business with a french business partner who he studied with in shanghai. there, he met a chinese model who was staying in france for two months for modeling work and they immediately fell in love. they kept in contact even after she returned to china and eventually, she signed with a french company to be closer to him. after they got married, his company became successful and that's how rina and her brother jin managed to enjoy a relaxed, laidback childhood with not many problems.

rina, when growing up, lived a more relaxed life than her brother, who was expected to inherit their father's company after he grew up. there wasn't much expectations that she needed to meet, so her mother took her to various events, plays, and trips. after she attended a ballet musical of swan lake at age seven, rina became intent on learning ballet. she eventually went on to become a formidable ballerina and starred as the lead character in her dance class's productions of a midsummer night's dream and cinderella at the young age of nine. other than ballet, rina was just expected to excel in her studies - to which she got away with just a's and b's. she spent most of her time in france as a carefree child who receives everything she wants.

after moving to shanghai, she dropped ballet to learn traditional dance. like in ballet, she managed to be great at traditional chinese dancing and danced as one of the leads in the productions. she also formally met her cousins in china, too, who were her next-door neighbors. the five became great friends and did everything together. it also helped when her father and his brother (the father of her cousins) became business partners and began to take the five on adventures and vacations. it was from one of the trips to south korea when she discovered kpop and its fascinating choreography that led her to audition online for exuare entertainment. her parents were pretty supportive of her decision to become an idol, because her mother was already in the entertainment industry, but rina had to convince them to let her travel and live in seoul alone.

• she loves to go to sleep late and then wake up late into the afternoon. the members call her nocturnal.

• she loves to watch scary movies (with the members; she can't watch them by herself), but afterwards, she would be scared to do anything by herself.

wang yun is mischievous and likes to joke around with his daughter and son. perhaps that is where jin got when his "humor" from. when he's not in his company, he's probably hanging out with his brother and the children. even now, when rina is an idol in korea and jin is at university, he still manages to set up dates for them to meet.

{★} mother - tang lian 唐莲 (december 23, 1966) model 4.5

rina is extremely close to her mother because during childhood, she was always with her when her mother is not at work. sometimes, when the opportunity comes, lian would even take rina to work in hopes that rina would become a model like her when she grows up. rina confides in her and trusts her mother to give her life advice.

when the two get together, the two words you'll most likely hear the most are loser and -face. both of them claim that they're mature, that they're adults, but even their parents call bullsh** on that. when they are around each other, there is not a moment of peace; if they're not teasing each other, then they are ignoring each other. as much as they like to claim they hate each other, the two love to spend time with each other (and their three cousins).

rina's beloved three cousins that have lived right next door to her after her move to shanghai. when jin is annoying her, she tends to snitch on him to yunhai and kaijun, who then playfully give jin a beating. yunhai is the more playful one, while kaijun is calm and easygoing. yinmei, the twins' little sister, is one of rina's best friends. they did everything together when they were younger (they do now, too) and yinmei, being the more mature of the two, lets rina have her way most of the time.

{★} close friend - lee jisook OC (february 26, 1989) fashion coordinator 4.5

the friendship started when rina went to ask the styling team to prepare her the prettiest stage outfits to wear in their performances (kind of qri's stage outfits in t-ara; hers is always the "girliest"). everyone in the room had dropped silent because they expected jisook to become annoyed and perhaps murder rina for not being grateful, but jisook just smiled and said "i'll hook you up," to which rina responded with a wink and said "thanks, friend."

both of them are from wealthy families and both of them can be spoiled. everyone wonders why they aren't enemies because their personalities are too alike for their own good, but they get along fine. rina doesn't mind hyunjoo's sickening sweetness and hyunjoo doesn't mind rina's rich brat character. when rina's feeling lonely in korea, she often goes to hyunjoo.

{★} friend - song qian "victoria" (february 02, 1987) idol/actress f(x) 3.5

when surrounded with levelheaded, modest people, one wonders why rina is still the brat she is. maybe because they let her act that way. victoria is the polar opposite of rina, but the two still managed to become friends because they were one of the only chinese people in the industry back in 2010 - 2011. they met backstage of inkigayo and even though they don't see each other that often, they still claim to be best buddies.

{★} didi 弟弟 - hong changwoo OC (august 11, 1996) idol of 1lusion 3.5

didi, the chinese term for younger brother, accurately describes the weird relationship between rina and changwoo. while the rest of the world thinks him as an aloof, apathetic character, for some strange reason, rina sees him as the most adorable kid who just doesn't know how to express his feelings. changwoo is sometimes a little weirded out by rina's attachment to him, but he doesn't complain. rina likes to shower him with gifts and souvenirs, which leads to other members (from both 1lusion and an.beat) screaming "favoritism."

{★} enemy - lee minyoung "min" (june 21, 1991) idol of miss a -4.0

rina has her fair portion of antifans and rivals - perhaps moreso than the other members because her personality isn't for everyone. min, running to the stage for miss a's comeback performance, accidentally bumped into rina. when she turned to apologize, rina coldly dismissed and glared at her - all before stalking away. later, thinking her reaction was too much, rina went to miss a's room to apologize for her attitude, only to find min backmouthing her fake and bratty attitude.

trainee background

while on vacation in seoul, rina discovered kpop and fell in love with its various cho-reography. being a dancer prior to discovering kpop, she immediately became interested in learning kpop dances. after a little searching around for kpop entertainments, she found exuare and decided to audition online after she had a talk with her parents about being an idol. she never expected exuare to accept her, but when they did, she didn't hesitate to accept the opportunity - even if she failed and never debut, she still had a backup plan back in china.

upon starting training in exuare, she was faced with the cruel reality of trainee life. there were merciless diets, pressures to quickly learn korean, hours of dancing and singing lessons; rina collapsed several times but regained footing with the support of other hard-working trainees. "if they can do it, this should be simple for me, too" was her mindset throughout her two long years. she also had to continue her studies in korea in an international school in seoul, adding on to her workload. again, it was her friends, the future an.beat members who cheered her on together. seeing the others go through the same tiring process every day while juggling schoolwork and uncertain futures gave rina a harsh reality check. at least, if she returned home, she can have the comfort of knowing that her family can provide her with everything she needs and that she can restart her modeling career whenever she likes. the other trainees don't all come from well-off backgrounds, with some even running away from home to chase their dreams. the experience taught her to cherish what she has and made her become more determined to withstand this lifestyle as a trainee.

rina was also one of the more fortunate trainees; thanks to her prior modeling, dancing, and interviewing experiences, she was offered to go on some variety shows as one of the representatives of exuare entertainment before an.beat's debut to introduce the new girl group.

{★} "rina takes her bratty character to another level" - rina was accused of being too mean to the other members on a variety show. people who aren't familiar with her accused her of being a bully. The other members said they didn't mind her "princessy" character because they know she's playing around and not being serious but rina released an apology video to the members and the fans anyway.

{★} "is an.beat's rina bribing exuare with her family's status?" - because the industry knows of her family status, when rina suddenly had a lot of solo activities outside of group promotions, people speculated that she was using her wealth to buy activities. exuare and rina released statements denying of this claim.

Anything else?

• rina's fanclub name is baby's breath; rina is like a baby, spoiled and immature, and she would always claim that her fans are the breath (air) that give her and her career life. the baby's breath is also one of her two favorite flowers. 
• her singing and dancing twin is kang seulgi of red velvet.
• when asked to do aegyo, she does one so sickening sweet that the members cringe a little. she claims that she learned it from her hyunjoo unni.
