the first thing anyone really notices about woojin is that he really has soft features for a guy. even without contacts ( which he does need if he's gonna have to see pretty much anyone ), his irises pretty much almost take up the space of his almond-shaped eyes. his lips are small, and their shape is quite defined, which he thinks is the main reason why he looks too feminine. due to the insistent handling of his older sisters, woojin has supple, milky skin that is free from blemishes, aside from a small scar at the base of his neck and another scar at his ankle. and even if he works out, woojin really has a small body, starting from his shoulders, down to his thin legs. to add insult to injury, his hands are also slender and thin. all in all, he's like a walking girly-looking dude, if it were not for his chocolate brown hair that never got past his collar because he's been avoiding a repetition of that one incident with his semi-long hair and bleach.

for all his delicate image, though, woojin certainly presents himself like he's 6'2" with a pack of buff muscles. and that basically means that he carries himself in a way that would make you at least be a little more certain that he is indeed a guy. his entire posture is somewhat of an imitation of a handsome gangster from k-dramas that his father helped him with, because he thought that if he acts any girlier he'd be made to debut with a girl group. woojin tends to look serious and cold for this, but present him with one of his weaknesses and he's bound to smile so brightly that people would start questioning their ualities.

being the first ( and last ) boy to be born to han daewoon and michaela west gave everyone in the family actual leeway to spoil the maknae woojin, well, after they all got over the fact that he was born with pretty much a prettier face than even his mother ( his father disgresses, because no one can be more beautiful than his beautiful wife ) and woojin's four older sisters. even as a child, woojin was fairly quiet and mild-mannered, and enjoyed the presence of his older sisters, more so when their father had to fly off to south korea due to his job. and when the patriarch was away, the mother and the daughters all had their way with woojin, from dressing him up and holding mini fashion shows for him in their house, to getting him to enjoy stuff that normal little boys would find disgusting for being 'girly activities', the women of the han household pretty much turned the only boy of the family into another girl. along the way, he picked up many of his sisters' habits, like hitting people either as punishment or endearment, nagging people ( okay maybe that was from his mom lel ), or being hyper-observant of others around him ( y'know how girls sometimes overanalyze guy behavior? yeah, he picked it up ).

so imagine papa han's complete shock and distress that his little prince woojin, six years after he first left for sokor, basically became another girl for the family. papa han was crying for days on straight and complaining that his little five-year-old cowboy can't possibly a little eleven-year-old princess now. woojin didn't care much about it because he still had some other things going, courtesy of his looks that made him popular, and that music class he had that made him even more popular. the class had a project where they would select a song to perform with a group in class, and woojin's groupmates chose blue's 'all rise', a song from the 90s era, because it was one of the groupmates' favorite. woojin was assigned to the main vocal part, and the music teacher said that he had a real talent for singing, which no one would've guessed would propel things into a weirder tangent.

when he was 15, woojin was suddenly signed up to the sm global auditions that was to be held in vancouver by one of his sisters, much to his chagrin. there, he met a chinese lamp post named li jiaheng since they were next to each other in the line. some obnoxious guys were trying to hit on woojin from the audience and he would've retaliated ( he didn't mind looking like a girl and people pointing it out but he hated people who catcall him ) but jiaheng protected him with the exact lines "hey, can't you see she's uncomfortable? stop it, you erts." and woojin just replied "i'm a guy." cue jiaheng sputtering out his shock and apologies. however, he did protect woojin a few times more, and even shouted "he's a guy!!!" when one of the judges kept calling him a girl, which woojin was glad for. they exchanged contact numbers and promised to meet each other in seoul.

he migrated with the whole family a month after passing the auditions. okay, more like they returned to the land of ( mostly ) their roots, but whatever. the whole han family moved to a cozy house in seoul, and he attended yongsan international school before eventually attending the school of performing arts in 2009. he and jiaheng met up during training in the meantime, and when some of the trainees or trainers would pull him to the girls' training jiaheng would be the one who pulled him back to the boys' training. he also later met two other eventual exo members, namely kim jongin and oh sehun, in two different instances while they were attending sopa. he and jiaheng still kept close, even when he was nearing debut.

during this time, woojin slowly developed his 'tough-guy' outer personality because of one specific incident when he was almost drafted for the female lineup in smrookies, which was the last straw for everything. jiaheng and woojin's father helped with it, mainly because they couldn't convince woojin that it wasn't a feasible plan.

but woojin also had other plans. he had just graduated high school 3 years into training, and he was aware that being an idol wasn't the most stable job, so he stopped for a while to study political science, which both his father and eldest sister also studied back in their day. he kept in touch with jiaheng ( later yifan / kris ) and the friends he made in sment, which all turned out to be the exo maknae line. however, the thought of performing, which he loved best, never left him, so against his better judgment, he once again entered the trainee life, three years after he started college, and this time under c-jes entertainment. he did want to go back to sm, but jiaheng wouldn't let him. he also considered mbk but he's somewhat aware of how awry their management is.

after jiaheng/yifan defended woojin from catcallers using the wrong pronoun and then made it up to woojin by basically being the younger's little day bodyguard, he and woojin started being chill with each other, but it wasn't after they both started training in south korea did they really turn out to be best friends. they were so close that woojin was even mistaken for his girlfriend several times, to which yifan would immediately jump on the "hey he's a guy and he doesn't swing that way i think" wagon. secretly, yifan thinks more of woojin as a little sister than a little brother, but no way is that going out. since sm can't really restrict woojin from contacting yifan, especially since he's in another company now, he and yifan keep contact via kakaotalk.

woojin met the maknae line of exo later on - jongin and sehun on two different occasions and instances at school of performing arts ( they were all pretty much in the same year because they were all at the same age ), and he met zitao a little later on during training ( mainly because of yifan ). they're not as close to woojin as yifan is, but they hang out too when schedules permit. the three were sad to seem him go, but zitao recently realized that woojin was lucky that he had the chance to quit sm before got down. like yifan, jongin, sehun and zitao are in his kakao contacts, but jongin rarely replies, sehun is annoying to talk to when he gets sassy, and zitao won't shut up.

junsu and woojin's relationship is a complex one, starting from the fact that he is woojin's mentor, along with the main dancer of the goup to form the dance line. at first, junsu was reluctant about woojin because he didn't show much aptitude for dancing, but he also couldn't deny that woojin certainly has the skill for it, courtesy of three years of hellish training from sment. junsu also feels a little conflicted about woojin, because he's first and foremost a product of sment, that demonic company, and any mention of that company slightly puts him on edge, but knowing how woojin had the chance to lead his life away from that company, junsu can't help but feel both proud and envious. still, to him, woojin's a kid with a bright future... and a really odd face that made him do double takes the first time he met him.

for woojin, it's like a same old same old scenario: trainers and trainees would mistake him for a tomboy and make him practice with the girls during his first few months, then when thy've gotten used to his confusing features, it goes a bit smoothly from there. he excelled a lot in vocal and acting training, but everything else was a hard journey for woojin. he only survived each day because of his best friend and later on more of his friends. all the pressure, competition and hardship he experienced in sm made things easier for woojin during his restart in c-jes, including the training from jyj's junsu. of course, after recovering from the shock that one of the absolute kings / emperors of modern kpop was to train him ( along with the rest of the dance line ofc ), he progressed like he used to, but this time with more focus on his dancing than his singing. with sm's hellish training from before, woojin wasn't a total loss for the dance unit. at least.

predebut :

i can see your voice ( season 2 episode 4 ) - he joined once there, under the nickname ' strathmore lawyer in training' and got up to level 2 ( the lipsynch battle ), where he lipsynched maroon 5's 'won't go home without you', but he was eliminated because k.will didn't believe that he was a lawyer in training ( much like, later on, with the 'nation's 9th smartest' in gummy's christmas eve episode ). on the stage of truth, he sang t-ara's 'hide & seek', which obviously shocked everyone. behind the scenes, leeteuk was laughing his head off ( in his head ) because he recognized woojin ( he's seen the peculiar girl-looking trainee around sm a few times before woojin quit the company ) and was even hoping that woojin would win, but alas.

scandals :

dating exo's kris / exo's kai / exo's sehun : predebut : false - these were three different instances, all very annoying and appeared just a while after exo's sudden popularity. after the one with sehun appeared, he put all stop to the rumors by posting a topless picture of him in his weibo that he's a dude. however, that sparked the interest of... fujoshis.
