PRIN.
JAEHWA'S STAGE NAME IS DERIVED FROM HER NICKNAME, "PRINCESS", DUE TO HER INEXPERIENCE AND HER PAMPEREDNESS WHEN SHE FIRST JOINED EMPIRE ENTERTAINMENT. HOWEVER, AS TIME WENT BY, SHE BECAME MORE CONFIDENT THAN SPOILT. OFFICIALLY, THE STAGE NAME 'PRIN' CAME FROM THE IDEA THAT SHE WOULD RULE THE STAGE with her dance.

character history

Jaehwa was born 29th February 1996 in Montreal, Canada, into a wealthy family. Her mother, Lee Minah, is the heiress of a trading company, and her father, Song Changbum, is a CEO of a tech company. Both her parents were the type to be extremely doting, so Jaehwa grew up with the best her parents could offer, albeit a bit spoilt. She was allowed to follow her interests freely — in fact, her parents encouraged it — and as a result, she dabbled in a wide variety of activities, including various classical instruments, skateboarding, ballet, and lastly, her favourite, b-girling.

From then on, Jaehwa held onto her dancing dreams unrelentlessly, even at the tender age of ten, which was coincidentally the age she was at when she moved back to South Korea with her parents, for business purposes. By then, she was fluent in English, Korean, and French, from conversing with her parents, the Korean community there as well as the old ladies living next door. Back at South Korea, her discovery of k-pop opened her eyes to her potential with dancing, and she'd been working her way towards becoming an idol ever since.

Like they always had been, Jaehwa's parents were extremely supportive of their daughter's dreams, and perhaps in an attempt to make it up to their daughter, whom they could not see as often now that work had begun to take up most of their time ever since their move to Seoul, they allowed her to continue with dancing classes, though they insisted she not only focus on b-girl, but also in other dances such as contemporary and jazz. At first. Jaehwa couldn't understand her parents' insistence, but she came to realise that her now-versatility in various types of dances were a huge advantage to her in terms of being chosen to be a trainee.

Jaehwa joined Empire Entertainment when she was eighteen, which was a bit older than normal, due to her unwillingness to participate in vocal training (she was insecure about her voice). However, Empire Entertainment thought that her range of dancing would be beneficial, so they accepted her as a trainee, on the condition that she would work hard to improve her singing until her debut. Although she worked hard so she could debut soon, she was still quite inexperienced compared to quite a few of the trainees there, and some of them even dubbed her with the nickname "princess".

character personality / STAGE PERSONA

Song Jaehwa's passion and dedication to her craft is astounding, though some might call it stubbornness. When she first joined Empire Entertainment, her inexperience and naivety rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and she was shunned for it. However, her determination to work towards improving herself overcame her stubbornness to stay the same way, and slowly but surely she gained confidence in singing, which helped boost her self-esteem as well. As a result, she became more friendly and open, and the trainees grew to like her, though the nickname "princess" stuck.

Jaehwa is still the most confident in her dancing, and doesn't hesitate to improve herself in any way she can. She's not afraid to speak her mind, which can get her into small arguments with fellow members and with the company sometimes, but she's not afraid to apologise either, if someone tells her why she's in the wrong. Although she may have a hard time empathising with others sometimes, she is an honest, generous person, and thinks that lying and not keeping promises (with a few exceptions) is one of the worst things anyone can do. She is also someone with high standards and expects the most out of everyone, including herself. If you've wronged her in some way and haven't apologised in a way she thinks satisfactory, she'll hold a grudge against you forever — and by that, she means it. She doesn't like to let negative emotions get to her, and hates being seen crying in front of others.

If Evermore's concept is Girl Next Door, Jaehwa would be the tomboy next door. Confident, bold, with a dash of y, she's that rough-and-tough girl you grew up with, left for university, and came back to find out that there's a hidden side of her you don't know about. She's the one who gets most screentime during dance breaks, but you probably won't hear more than one solo line from her, at least not until the company thinks she's good enough to take on more.
