background : gayoung was born to seo jinhyuk and seo minkki on november 2nd, 1990 as mingyu. up until the age of four, gayoung had went by the name of mingyu unhappily, a few times coming out to her mother as a "princess" instead of a prince like her mother had corrected her. gayoung knew at an early stage that she wasn't a boy, in fact it didn't take her at all long to tell her parents that she was a girl and not a boy, and she could usually be seen dressing up in her mothers clothing, singing and dancing cutely to female idols and even attempting to use make up. it was by the age of ten that gayoung had began her hormone treatments and fifteen when she was positive she wanted to undergo the surgery, her parents supporting her decision to go from seo mingyu to seo gayoung fully. she'd been teased a lot at school but she didn't pay mind to it because she was happy and her parents were happy for her too. she realized she was very interested in singing and dancing during highschool when she joined chorus and took up a few dancing classes, learning some tricks and tips on how to control her vocal range as well as cool moves she could show off to her parents. by the age of twenty she'd went under the knife a couple times, just to have general things like implants and nose surgeries, and a very rare reduction to her s when she found that they might've been too big for her, which she laughed at. it was at that time in her life that she'd also been scouted by someone from vudu entertainment because of her unique looks and she'd decided to give it a thought and become a trainee, training for five years and was very happy as her vocals and dancing grew stronger as well as the fact she felt like they understood her there and were very nice.
