Cheese in the trap

A new year means more exciting and suspensful kdramas and 2016 has started that off with a bang. A drama that is certainly high on my to watch list is the drama adaptation of the webcomic 'Cheese in the Trap' (Drama also has the same name)

Cheese in the Trap takes over from Bubblegum on TvN,an entertasinment network owned by CJE&M, every Monday and Tuesday 11 pm KST. and will be succeded by Pied Piper in March.

This drama depicts the budding relationship between a a female junior, Hong Seol, and her Senior, Yoo Jung. Hong Seol works multiple part time jobs to pay for her tuition due to her families poor background whereas Yoo Jung comes from a priviliged upbringing, not only that but he is good looking, gets good grades and is popular amongst the students in and out of their departments. However this would be without him having a dark side which Seol seems to point out and this just makes viewers even more earger to follow and find out what exactly happened.

Originally the role of Hong Seol was offered to Miss A's Bae Suzy but she declined. It was then offered to actress Kim Go Eun who also delined due to her demanding shcedule, but after the director repeatedly asking and also adjusting the series shooting to accomodate her scedule, she finally accepted. Up to this point Kim Go Eun has only starred in exclusive feature films making Cheese in the Trap her first drama.

Kim Go Eun, in my opinion, does the role of Hong Seol justice. The way she is able to depict Hong as someone who is hard-working and naive as well as cute and head strong is awesome. The fact that she has to work multiple jobs, is having trouble with overbearing classmates and is careful about money just make her all the more relateable (relates well to me, not so much the multiple jobs and overbearing classmates but the money part). This just makes it easier for viwers to fall for her and to root for her all the way to the end of the series.

Yoo Jung is played by Park Hae Jin and i think that it was the BEST freaking decision the casting director made for the lead of this drama!!! Like, Park Hae Jin just has this charm about him that you can't help but be drawn to and his eyes has this sort of intensity and mystery that just completely melts your bones and wish you had a Park Hae Jin in your life. The way he depicts Jung is just absolutely perfect, the way he is able to bring Jung's cold yet caring demenour is just right. He has a soft spot for Seol, though not at first, and it's just cute the way it has progressed even in the first 4 episode. Because of his cold yet caring demnour, mentioned in the sentence before, it makes the drama twice as interesting and would gurantee viewers rooting for him to end up woth Seol (though some may think otherwise).

Beak In Ho is played by Seo Kang Joon. This is not the first time Seo Kang Joon has played a charismatic bad boy, like he is reprising his role from After school: Lucky or Not, the only difference is that here he has been hurt badly in the past resulting in hostile feelings towards Yoo Jung. In my opinion Seo Kang Joon plays an excellent bad boy, he pulls you in with In Ho's goofiness but also with how he is able to channel In Ho's hurt and send it out to the audience making them feel as if they themselves has been wronged... I know that's how i feel. He is just starting to warm up to Seol and many would think they would look good as a couple. However i don't get that feeling, not like with Seol and Jung. I get a sibling vibe from them, like (small spoiler for those who have not seen episode 4) when they were in the convenience store and she had just bought herself some ramyeon with samgak and he was houding her to buy them some 500 won kimchi; and then get into an argument about who has more, i'm sorry but this feels too much like siblings fighting over who has more/less food then the other. Maybe it's because they are too similar or because i don't want him to get hurt even more, i hope the writers are able to write him a great ending with a fabulous love line with someone else.

So far, Cheese in the Trap is a drama that shouldn't be overlooked when looking for something to watch. You will pat yourself on the back for starting an AMAZING drama like this or i shall have a minor fracture in my leg. I hope you guys will give Cheese in the Trap your support as well as the actors so that they know that we, as international fans, will be eargerly awaiting the next episode, i know i will :3.

P.S Guys, sorry for the long post as i said this is my fisrt time doing and will be sure to cut down on some writing as time goes on. However, if you don't agree with my decription of the 3 mains feel free to voice your opinions in the comment section, no rude words! And tell me what you would like to read next
