Craft #85: Paperclay art (WIP)
Last December, I received a gift from my godfather.
My first paperclay art set!
It came with a wooden display/art board:
and twelve pots of paperclay:
(and two wooden skewers - for picking, dotting, shaping...)
I started working on it last week.
And here's my progress:
This is not intentional. I didn't use two colors to portray "change". Keeper ran out of YELLOW paper clay orz. I should have mixed my yellow and golden yellow >_<
It looks like golden yellow spilled on it HAHA. I'll "fix" my "sun cloud" some other time... or I won't get anything done!
Still with the sun cloud, I woke up the next day and saw that I needed to pad more clay in some places. When the paperclay dried up, it shriveled. I think I spent more time filling up the gaps... and still, I could find areas where the board is peeking through.
At the end of Day two, it doesn't seem like I accomplished much. HAHA.
That's because I started mixing the different colors to create my own palette.
It takes a lot of patience and eye-hand coordination to fill the pattern with paperclay. This is where my spritz-bottle came in handy. I was so slow that my paperclay dried up ahaha.
I spent that night thinking of what to color the bird.
And on the afternoon of Day 3, I decided to make TEAL (or as close to it as I could).
Fast forward to this morning's progress:
I changed the leaf color ^^" Before it was white and a pale mint green.
My teal is fading so I might mix a darker shade and layer it on top.
I'll finish these flowers today:
Then I'll pad areas that need "fixing". I always start my session with this "fixing" or "editing" process.
Keeper is more creative during the late afternoon until late in the evening. It's just that my light source makes it hard to mix colors. So I do a lot of estimation when mixing haha.
After that, I'll spend lots of time thinking about the color to fill the spaces... HAHA! It must be a color that I haven't used or maybe another shade of it. I'm leaning towards a light blue. But my room is already light/pale/powder blue. I still haven't touched my chocolate brown though. Hmmm... decisions... decisions...
I'm going to gloss this with clear acrylic emulsion. I asked the admin if I need to seal my work with varnish. I don't have to. But if I wanted my artwork to have a glossy finish, that was her recommendation.

Poptart is going to visit their SM North Edsa branch today. It's located at the second floor. She's going to find out if,
1) I can choose my own paperclay palette. Their largest set comes with twenty paperclay pots. So I'm wondering if I could choose my own twenty colors. Say, get two yellow pots and two white, since I mix my own colors anyway.
2) they sell individual pots... I need an extra yellow paperclay pot.
(Ahahah! Keeper and the yellowpaperclay pot)
And I forgot to add this:
3) Do they sell blank boards? So that I could make my own design..
I know I could just pm the admin. Haha! They recently opened their online store too. But since Poptart is going to visit their physical shop, might as well have her ask the questions directly.
So, this is my first craft project update of the year ^-^ I plan to do some kpop-related crafts too. And Kiliel. HAHA. #fangirling #shipping
