How to fill the gaps in your hollow heart

Fill it with water, hope it doesn’t spill
Fill it with sugar, hope you don’t get ill
Don’t expect the butterflies to fill your heart
Don’t expect fair when you’ve done your part.

Try to pour some love, then it will brim with hate
Try to throw it out, pretending you’re a clean slate
For hate is so pure, and love is a bit of torture
For trying to be better, doesn’t always make you a warrior

People around will try to cheer you up
But not every time do you feel tough
As a vulnerable imperfection empty is hard
Specially when no one can understand

You feel like a disaster, torn asunder
But when there’s a lightning, comes always a thunder
Today might be bad, tomorrow might be worse
Don’t think that what you’re holding onto is a curse

How do you fill a broken vase
When it can’t contain anything
Why would you give applause
When you don’t know what’s happening

The gaps might be deep
Or the steps might seem steep
Hold on to your feelings, swallow them if you must
Feel the wind on your skin, hollowness isn’t what you want

So fill them in with smiles and hope to die
And brush the tears falling out of your eye
See it’s easy to say goodbye
When time quickly flies by
