My Thoughts on the Siwon Re-Tweet

So, I go on tumblr and find people dropping Siwon as bias like flies. Apparently, he retweeted an article about Kim Davis and her fight against issuing gay marriage licenses. People are taking this as an act of homophobia, and saying they will not support Siwon anymore because of it.

Here's the thing, did anyone actually read the article? I did.

It's an article debating the power of the supreme court and the power of the law to prosecute Christians over their religious beliefs, using the Kim Davis case an example. The article lists out points arguing against the legitimacy of Laws based solely on Supreme court decisions, and whether they should be followed.

I do have to say that the article is a bit biased in one direction, and does use some inflammatory language to back some points, but was not written for the purpose of being for or against gay marriage. Rather, it used the issue to point out flaws in the system that have allowed the government to persecute people because of their religious beliefs. It did call for people to use the issue to stand up against the ruling, which I didn't like, but that's not the point.

What we need to ask ourselves is this: What was Siwon's point in retweeting this article?

What is he supporting? The argument about the Supreme court's power to pass laws, and the legitimacy of the governments' power to prosecute people for defying them based on religion? Or, was it to support the anti gay marriage points sprinkled within?

Considering that Siwon posted support for the USA's progress when the gay marriage ruling was passed, I'd like to believe that he was making a point against persecution of others, not an homophobic one.

But, this is only how I interpreted it.

The Kim Davis fight is complex and has many sides to it. We have to analyze it in accordance to the laws currently in place, and not based off our own opinions and beliefs. I think that the article's intention was to do just that, but went askew in multiple ways because the author kept interjecting his own opinions into the facts and analysis.

I don't think people should be bailing on Siwon over one retweet that most of them didn't take the time to read, or interpret with a clear unbiased thought pattern. Take time to analyze the situation, then make an informed decision on your own. Don't jump on the bandwagon of rumors and outrage without taking time to read and form your own opinion. I am neither defending, nor condemning him. I'm only pointing out that people should think for themselves before making a decision.

That's all...,

I agree although I don't believe in his view points on gay marriage. My only issue with Kim Davis however, is that she's in a position where you serve EVERYONE in the public regardless of what your beliefs are. And she had the chance to not go to jail but she choose to in the end even though someone offered to file the marriage licenses themselves personally.

As for Siwon I don't believe he should HAVE to apologize just because he re-tweeted something he believes in. He's entitled to re-tweet/tweet whatever he wants. He's still my favorite of SuJu despite having a different belief on gay marriage. Any fan who dumps him for that reason is not an open minded individual.

Anyway don't mind me by the way X'3 It's just nice to see someone who tries to look at things from both sides.

I didn't know about this and I haven't read the article but even with just common sense I don't see how this was a problem. He retweeted an article you say? He didn't retweet a quote or a stance on the matter he shared an article just like if someone shared a story with a friend. We're supposed to read the article, not assume its a blatant opinion. I'd just assume he's making room for discussion and thought.

Choosing to hate someone because of their belief or opinion is wrong, regardless of the basis for it. Siwon can support or be against whatever he feels he needs to be, it doesn't change him as a person, or how he sings, or anything else. He will still be the same Siwon he was before anyone read the re-tweet. Sadly some people change their opinions like that though, which I agree does seem a bit ridiculous.... Thank you for taking the time to cover this, and highlighting the points you did :)

Everyone should have their right to uphold their religious believe, but not at the expense of the born human rights of others. I can't refrain myself from naming that upholding as hypocritical.
Thank you very much for taking time to analyse this situation. Allow me to re-read it again for some new thoughts.

Why are people so mad about this? What's the big problem... he's christian and he has been taught to believe that same marriage is wrong, and I think that's fine, I just don't understand why people find this as a reason to hate him or say they don't respect him just because they have different beliefs T_T If he were my bias I'd still love him. If one of my bias said something like this I'd still love them. And tbh I wouldn't be surprised, Korea is still mainly a homophobic country. Now people are just acting like asshats for no good reason and using this as an excuse to be mad. I'm just worried this will damage SJ's reputation, seems that's all I worry about recently lol :P

I read the article and to me, it doesn't matter what Siwon RT-ed or what his stand in this matter is. What ticks me off is some stupid news site posting dumb articles about it with absolutely tasteless caption like "How can he be a role model for millions of children around the world?" https://www.facebook.com/koreaboo/posts/10153777603506412

Rather, it used the issue to point out flaws in the system that have allowed the government to persecute people because of their religious beliefs. <- It shouldn't, but that's not what happened with Kim Davis. She got arrested because she defied court orders - AND tbh, if religious beliefs legitimize discrimination, that is not living a religion but pushing it on others. It's her ing job, if she can't do it, she needs to quit. She can go to Russia, there she would be in good hands.

I didn't read the article, and I didn't know this happened because I don't have a twitter, but I agree with you. I don't think Siwon meant it in a homophobic way. Yes, he is Christian, and yes he has his beliefs, but I think he's pretty liberal for a Christian. I'm not a religious person, like I'm agnostic, but I believe people have the right to their own opinion, and Siwon had every right to re-tweet that article. This Kim Davis, however, needs to calm herself and realize that the word is changing. -_- just my opinion, though.

I didn't even know that this happened. However if people are leaving Siwon's basis because of an opinion on the many things happening in our world today, then they're in the wrong. People forget he's human and he has an entitlement to his opinion and if they don't agree screw them. If he is homophobic, ok. If so I don't agree with it, but it's his opinion. And if not okay. But my main problem with this whole situation is people are leaving his fan basis without learning the whole story. Please society don't just say I don't like something because everybody is and that it's wrong. Because truth be told one day in life you're going to have an opinion or do something that not everybody agrees with but if you see nothing wrong with what you did and truly believe in it was a good thing, stick by it but remember all those times you cut someone off because of their opinions and how you feel at this moment and how they felt at the time.

I think he have the rights to think what ever he wants. If he doesn't or not support gays is his problem. He is Christian he will look for the happiness of the people but he will stick with his believe too...I haven't read the article but I just comment on what u wrote. So I will read it more and then make like a real comment
