So... I joined a debate club at school, and I am still a FRESH NEWBIE so I have really slight.. (to be honest) less to no knowledge about debate. But I am very interested in it so I'd like to try for it. So the chairman of our club assigned us to find five motions and define them. Honestly, I am very confused but I don't have the courage to ask him because of my VERY SHY personality. I tried browsing the internet for examples, but nothing comes up. :( So I made this by my own with the help of a mobile dictionary. Can anyone explain to me how to define a motion? And is this the right way to define a motion? If it's wrong, I'd be glad and grateful if anyone could correct it for me.

I cherry-picked the motions from the internet, I just go with easier motions because motions regarding politics, or economics and everything---I'm just still not on par with those subjects. If there's any debaters out there, or anyone who could explain how to define motions to me I hope you can help me :)

1. This house believes that assisted suicide should be legalized

=Assisted suicide is suicide committed with the aid of another person, sometimes a physician. Suicide of a terminally ill person that involves an assistant who serves to make dying as painless and dignified as possible.

2. This house would ban smoking in public places

=Smoking is the inhalation of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Smoking in public places means that the smoker performs the act of smoking in a place where there are many people around that could affect, and cause discomfort to other people.

3. This house would go vegetarian

=Vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat, or does not believe in eating meat, fish, or in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc.

4. This house believes that endangered species should be protected

=Endangered species is a species threatened with, and at risk of extinction because of human activity, changes in climate, changes in predator-prey ratios, etc. Protecting endangered species means that we’re preserving, and conserve the species so they can remain.

5. This house would ban cosmetic surgery

=Cosmetic surgery is a plastic surgery for improving a person’s appearance by restoration of damaged areas of skin, removal of wrinkles or blemishes, etc.
