I'd think about the plot first and then decide who should be the main. Just because Zico is the captain doesn't mean he has to be the main idol. I think writing about someone who's not a captain being in love could be quite fun, too. Pirates of Caribbean is technically about Jack Sparrow, but he doesn't actually get a love interest until the 4th movie XD
