Please don't misconstrue the title; this is a genuine question, I have nothing personal against this genre.

I remember on the good old RP days of neopets forums (yes I was a regular there as a child, and yes I did complain about how the rp forums had died off since the 'golden age' when I got older), there were phases of popularity for different genres. There were certainly fashions. Medieval fantasy, vampires, animal DNA "testing" (zero science involved in stories lawl), Warriors fanfiction-style, "gifted" (usually running from the government), and at one point... wolves.

I even had wolf characters myself and would join in on the fun.

But how in all hell has it had a revival on AFF, of all places?

I know it was a roleplay forum that I was on, but I thought that genre had died a death. But now it's back, in roaring popularity! I am getting neopets flashbacks to be perfectly honest lol.

Can anyone riddle me why this genre is so popular? I see a wide range of genres and stories on this site, so it's quite a surprise to me that wolf au has become such a popular genre when the only other dominant one I noticed on here was the student life genre (more specifically highschool romance).
