Criticizing is meant to emboss the author and not to emphasize the flaws, and if they were meant offensive by the author, no one has the right to complain. This practice is not immoral to begin with, but not all authors here are as passive as you are. Sure, it may be depicted as a form of 'helping', but this kind of act is risky of one's camaraderie, especially if you pointed out his flaws in an unruly manner. Above all, it is his story and he has the absolute right to do whatever he wants with his story. No one can command him to do something he never wants. Let him notice his flaws himself and in the process, he might learn the improvisation needed. If you can't take it, then don't read it and just subscribe while you're at it. That way, you at least 'helped'.

I don't appreciate people pointing out the flaws because I don't write for them. I write for myself.
