A Person's Personal Choice

This blog post represents my opinions, and my opinions alone

Ok… I just watched the video to Stellar's latest comeback, and… I was shocked, to be honest.

Now, let me get this straight from the very beginning: I am not against y concepts. Most of the time, I actually prefer ier concepts to cutesy concepts because the songs are often better, in my opinion.

However, most of the time, I find the videos over the top and exaggerated. Doesn't k-pop know how to be y without the vulgarity or risqueness? I mean, look at Girls' Generations's Check for example. When they performed the song, it was y but still flirty and tasteful enough to be teasing and entertaining. Instead Stellar's Marionette and now Vibrato just have to take it to another level that isn't tacky or tasteful. The dance moves and all the ual angles and shots reminded me of a strip club, to state my most honest opinion.

No, I am not hating or bashing the girls.

I blame their company. Their company has such low views and respect for the girls that they prefer to sell them through the girls' bodies instead of their voices (which are pretty good). Their company seriously believes that Stellar need barely-there clothing, coarse dance moves and racy angles in order to draw the attention from the public (which in Stellar's case probably are men) they need in order to sell music.

I don't share that view. You can be y without being obscene, flirty without indecency, interesting and entertaining without lewdness. Look at three of kpop's biggest girl groups: Girls' Generation, 2NE1 and Wonder Girls. They have never been forced to stoop this low in order to sell their music, and they have made history and they have become legends. They have their style and image, and their audiences consists of both men and women, and young and old.

So I don't get why Stellar's company (with many other companies and their girl groups) chooses this approach to market the girls. They are talented and have great potential, which their company needs to focus on, instead of their half- bodies.

I would've been more accepting if I certainly knew that the girls had chosen the concept themselves and not their company. Being y should always be a person's individual choice, not forced upon someone.

I agree with you but there is something to consider: while Girls' Generation, 2NE1 and Wonder Girls never had to do something like that, they do come from the Big 3. That in itself attracts quite a bit of attention from the public. Stellar, on the other hand, I don't even know what company they come from.

I don't understand with the company's brain. I mean, this y-concept thingy makes me think that kpop is all about the y body not voice or unique dance. I don't against with y-concepts (you know that I love and adore Trouble Maker). The thing is---Girls Day comeback and Stellar... whatever. These days they took y-concept into new level. I mean it's getting worse every time and say hello to more acts from KBS (read: Korean Banning System lol jk. actually the TV channel KBS tho). I don't understand why they are thinking that y-concepts can make the girl group famous. Oh yes--famous but in a negative way.

I just hate it. Really really hate it. Whenever a group comeback with y-concept... I just dislike them immediately without thinking. Overrated and negative impression from me--sorry to say but... the word s keep popping in my head. I just couldn't handle it.

I'm being bias anyway. Even HyunA is--ugh, nevermind HAHAHA
