We celebrate New Year twice XD

Although the country as itself (Government) in 1918  officially adopted the Gregorian calendar, our Orthodox Church  continued to use the Julian calendar.

So, as the result, The New Year became a holiday which is celebrated by both calendars! :)

But only January 1is the public holiday as January 14 is just a nostalgic tradition, plus the time where we use a lot of folk traditions.

its also considered the best time for fortune-telling ;)

Are not we good at creating reasons to party? LOL I can tell you, we do enjoy this tradition to the fullest XD

so, HAPPY OLD NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

PS. According to wikipedia the tradition of the Old New Year has been kept in Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Ukraine (Malanka), Wales and Switzerland (as alter Silvester). In the first half of the 20th century, segments of the Scottish Gaelic community still observed the feast and today, groups such as Edinburgh's Am Bothan see this as a convenient date for Gaelic events.
