Trigger Warnings

Hey guys! I just wanted to get a couple opinions on trigger warnings.

By what parameters do I rate a chapter as 'rated' or 'triggers'? For example, if I'm describing a suicide scene, how far can I get before it's considered a trigger? (It's attempted suicide, no one dies so I'm just wondering). I know people are different so they're bound to have different issues :c

I also have a scene where two characters are talking about suicide, but nothing happens beyond talking. Do I still mark it triggered?

(I should probably read more but I don't read at all so I don't know ??? orz)

It's better to be safe than sorry and just state at the beginning that there are mentions of it!

i'm living with people who actually tried to kill themselves. as they said, even the mention of suicide triggers them so you should add the trigger warning~

I've heard from someone that even at the mention of these kinda things like suicide, abuse, ect.... just add the trigger warning and rated mark. It's just to be safe because you know how sensitive some people are.

I feel like maybe you should mark it trigger warning just in case, because sometimes people skip over any small author's note at the beginning of chapters or in forwards, but that's just me. And some people can be triggered easily, also.

If it can cause others to follow or maybe pull off inappropriate thoughts of a suicidal person then, yes, it is triggering. Although if it isn't that far and just NC-17 then you could warn your readers before the chapter itself. Not an expert but that's how I see it :)
