What's the Rule for Anime/Manga Based Fanfics?

Hey guys! So I have this idea for a fic based on this anime/manga that I just love! But before I even start it I wanted to know the rule on basing your fics off of other works. I've seen a few fics do it but like how much do you have to change? Obviously the character's names will be different and I won't be writing it word for word but I'd like to keep events that happen in the story the same and characterists a little the same too. Is that plagiarism?? Will I get in trouble?? I'll give credit of course but I just want to know!

If you can help me I'd appreciate it! Thank you^^

I think you're talking about fan fiction, to which the answer is: there are no rules! Well, unless you're basically rewriting the whole plot line.

With fan fiction, you don't have to change character names or anything. You won't get in trouble. For a story you want to publish... you can be inspired but you can't just blatantly take plot lines from the anime/manga or steal the characters. There's a huge difference between inspiration and plagiarism.

And I hope you aren't planning on posting it on AFF because... people are only here for Korean stuff so the title's misleading but... yeah. You can, but you won't get views and feedback and such.
