→ minji was always by himself as a child, so he grew up rather introverted. he found a friend in himself so he wouldn't get lonely for not having any friends. he kept himself entertained by talking to himself or reading the day away. with his hermit personality, he never had distractions like vanity nor drama. he always had his face buried deep in books, studying until he woke up the next morning and finding out that he fell asleep on his book. since he was always alone, he doesn't know how to handle social interactions that well and gets really nervous and anxious because he doesn't know how to keep conversations going.
→ minji's emotions are something he doesn't know how to keep in balance. they are very unstable because the most littlest things can send him into tears. he hates being pitied no matter what, a reason why he always tries to avoid social interactions. he hates being asked prying questions and it sets off his anxiety to the max level. he's learning how to keep a better eye on his emotions, but sometimes they just get the best of him and overwhelming his tiny body.

→ nam wooji was born on a snowy day in december. he was the result of not wearing a . he was the only reason that his father married his mother in the first place. he was the perfect husband during the pregnancy, but once he was born, it became a totally different story. behind his mother's back, his father would tell him things. being worthless, a mistake, etc. he tore minji down every time he had. minji was too scared to say anything to his dear mother, afraid that his father would fine out and scold him more. so he kept the mental abuse to himself, turning his attention to school.
→ his life wasn't any different at school. he was outcast the second he introduced himself. everyone knew about how dirty of a cop his dad was. his heavy accent didn't help him either, making him the center of bullying. with no friends, he turned to books. any kind of books he could get a hold of, he would read it. he was one of the top students in school, but it never changed anything. his father still yelled at him at home while he was still being bullied.
→ after his tenth birthday, his mother disappeared. with her disappearance came more punishments. his father started to beat him, stating it was his fault that his mother had left. school was even worse, his bullies starting to beat him too. after all the pain and suffering, minji finally found his escape. he started small, tiny cuts on his wrists that healed quickly, but that wasn't enough. his cuts got deeper, scattering his arms and thighs. it was his only way to get away from reality.
→ soon enough, his father found out about his cutting. his punishments got worse, becoming more than just beatings. his father would use his body everyday and night along with hurting him his fists and words. it was absolute hell for minji. he became an empty husk of a human being. after five years of abuse, his father died of a heart attack during one of minji's punishments. the entire town then knew about how he had lived for years. they all pitied him. minji hated it. he needed to get away. staying here gave him too many painful memories.
→ thankfully, a distant cousin from his mother's side took him in. he moved to beijing, china where lan helped the poor boy recovered. lan did pity minji, but he didn't let minji ever know that. he stayed by his side. he taught him the piano and how to sing. minji was filled with emotion. his mother played this piano and had the most beautiful voice he's ever heard. he wanted to be just like his mother, no matter what it took. for two years, minji mastered the piano and lan found out how much his voice sounded just like his mother's. lan started to think minji was ready to face korea once again. so after another year of convincing minji to go, the boarded a plane right to seoul.
→ within months of being in seoul, lan would take minji to the park and let the boy sing. sometimes lan was at work so minji would go to the park alone. he would ignore his surroundings and sing his heart out, no matter what people thought of him. it was one of those times where he was by himself, a group of punks teased about his ugly voice and appearance along with throwing a bucket of water over him. drenched head to toe, the punks laughed at him. it was just like school all over again. he met jun that fateful day. the man walked up to those punk kids, giving them a beating of a life. as the punk ran away in tears, jun turned to minji and gave him a simple hug, er, tried too.
→ jun walked minji back home and stayed with him until lan came back from work, but he never left. he stayed. lan was confused about why this stranger wouldn't leave their apartment, but after seeing how gentle and patient he was with minji, he just didn't care and let the tall man stay as long as he wanted.
→ when they found out about jun's job, minji became excited, but he kept to himself. he didn't want to bother jun about his silly old dream anyway. though jun didn't think his dream was silly. despite working at the almost nonexistant company origin media, he helped minji get in. he knew how much this meant to the boy. of course, jun didn't tell minji that he was one of the reasons he got in. minji didn't need to know about that. for three years, jun specifically practiced with minji. he wanted to see the boy's dream come true.
