49 Questions for Authors

Note: These questions are not my own. They have been translated from a Chinese website. Translations may not be accurate, but let's just see how good my traditional Chinese reading skills are. Feel free to use.

1. What pen names have you published under?

mayangel (AFF), mayangel7 (Lij), and probably a few more a long, long time ago

2. Where do you usually publish fics?

AFF

3. Do you usually handwrite or type?

I used to handwrite, but the trouble of typing what I'd written was just... too much. Also, the problem with reading my own handwriting.

4. How many words long are your very short, short, and long fics?

Drabbles: Anything below 2K

Oneshots: Under 10K, I guess

Long fics: They could reach to infinity, but the longest I have yet (it's still unfinished tskkk) is 50K.

5, How many stories have you written so far? (Finished, in progress, abandoned)

Finished: I have 18 in my file, according to main pairings

In progress: I count 14, but I'm probably wrong

Abandoned: Wow too many to count.

6. When did you first start writing?

Probably second grade...? Let's not go back that far.

7. What was your first story?

Nope.

8. Are most of your stories original or inspired by other work?

I've deleted many stories that were too inspired so yeah.

9. Authors, books, or music that you believe have deeply influenced your work?

Robert Cormier, does my math textbook count, and a lot of the covers TFBoys has done and probably a lot more

10. Are there any things you avoid in your writing?

A LOT. Also, I'm not sure I translated this correctly but whatever.

11. Have you ever submitted stories for publication before?

Yeah.

12. As above (like, refer to the previous question), if you have, have they been published? If you've never submitted, why not?

Yes...

13, In your own stories, who are usually the main characters?

Warnings for possibly inaccurate translation, but um like the main pairing and then whoever pops up. Also, Chen.

14. Do you have habits when it comes to dividing chapers?

Who doesn't.

15. As above, do you do so based on the scene or word count?

I really shouldn't count my words.

16. Words that you try to avoid in your writing?

Bad ones. Awkward ones. Long ones. Dumb ones. Korean/Chinese romanization. Stage names. Description of certain characters in extremely cliche ways. Let's stop here.

17. What are your habits while writing?

I use Microsoft Word a lot. Does procrastination count...? Also, trying to hide whatever I'm writing. And finding reasons to not write. Like this.

18. Do you write at night or during the day?

Usually during the afternoon, but it's night right now soooooo

19. In writing, do you have anything you want to accomplish?

In writing this, prove that my Chinese is actually improving... But in general, I'd really like to write KarRoy on Lofter one day. And to torture as many people as possible.

20. What keeps you going while writing?

My outline. And deadlines. And certain frustrations.

21. When you do write, is your setting (time) usually past, present, or future?

I'm too lazy to do historical or scientific research, so usually present.

22. As above, is your setting (place) usually in your home country or outside of it?

Sometimes, I don't even specify the location. But this site is called AFF so...

23. Do you like a funny or tragic ending more?

Tragic, unless if the story really deserves a good ending.

24. Do you care about your character's ual orientations?

Wow this question. It's their life, not mine.

25. Do you name your story before you write it, or at the very end?

I name all of my stories according to the main pairing. I tend to change the name a lot while I'm writing the story. But usually, I like knowing the title at the very beginning.

26. As above, how do you usually name your stories?

Through thinking and not thinking.

27. Affection, love, and friendship--have you written about the three topics above?

I mostly focus on romance and sometimes friendship... but affection is probably something I should explore one day.

28.  What do you think is the most important part in your story?

The plot...

29. What do others say about your writing style?

Sometimes it's really cheesy, and sometimes there are comments asking me how I could end it like that soooooo

30. Do you often use quotes from other sources?

I translate songs sometimes. But I don't have time to actually search up quotes.

31. What do you think about this quote: "If this script has a gun, then the gun should be fired?"

Why else would you have a gun.

32. Have you been plagarized before?

No

33. Have you met any friends through writing stories?

Yes.

34. Have you been praised before?

Yes.

35. If you were never able to write again, what would you be willing to exchange for a chance to write?

Nothing. I'd walk away feeling much happier. Wait what

36. What place does writing have in your life?

It shouldn't but it takes up so much time so

37. What is usually the heart of your story?

I focus on the plot the most (probably not a good idea).

38. When you can't write anything, what do you do?

What I'm doing right now. Or I look through KarRoy tags on Lofter and wonder why I can't write like that.

39. Have you been pressured by deadlines to update before?

I've done fic exchanges so yeah. But the deadlines usually aren't that bad. English essays for class are another story.

40. Are there people who pressure you to update?

Sometimes...? But it's more like me pressuring certain people to update.

41. Have you thought about how long you want to write?

Not interested in writing as a career, so definitely not forever.

42. Words that often appear in your stories?

"And." I find myself editing that word out these days. Sometimes "Jongdae," but I'm not to blame for this.

43. Are there people who you don't want to see your fics?
How about this whole world. Mostly my family members though.

44. How many times do you revise a story once you finish it?

I usually read over it and try to reword certain awkward phrases, but I hate revising, which is why I tend to force certain people to beta-read.

45. What is the story you've spent the most time writing?

This goes all the way back to maybe... three years ago? It ended up becoming like a thousand pages (not front and back), handwritten on loose leaf. It's never going to be finished, and it takes up two large binders. (Leia: yeah, I'm talking about the one you read... a long, long time ago.)

46. What are the stories you're most satisfied with up until now?

Turn Up the Volume. Beyond that... If We Run (Let's Run Together), I guess. I actually had to look through my finished stories again because I never reread them when I'm finished with them. And then maybe Made with Love...?

47. As above, why?

Turn Up the Volume: simply because some parts were so natural to write. Also because Krisho is adorable.

If We Run (Let's Run Together): My first and last non!AU, and why not.

Made with Love: I wrote fluff for once.

48. What are your thoughts about this questionairre?

This was the most annoying thing to translate. Like WHY. Maybe there was a simplified version of this...? Also, this was probably 48 questions too long.

49. 快樂的點名時間,請點~

Tagging unkentrollable and rayofshinee and anyone else who wants to bother.
