TGFTBTS2 Chapter 4

Chapter 4 isn't finished yet, but since it has been 10 days since we updated, I'll just leave the unedited first segment of the chapter here as a preview:

Jung Jihye was applying sky blue lacquer on Jang Byeoli's long, beautiful nails. She has recently gotten into nail art, thanks mostly to that Lee Hongki book she received from her sister Jieun on her birthday, and was itching to try some of her ideas, so she couldn't be happier when Sookmyung's Song Hyekyo agreed, although reluctantly, to be her Barbie doll for a day.

"What's the concept for today?" Byeoli asked.

Jihye expertly applied three thin of polish on the nail of her friend's right pinky. "Spring," she answered, asking for Byeoli's left hand. "I'm going to paint tiny branches of cherry blossoms on your nails later. They're going to look like the pink flowers we see in Sookmyung. It's going to be great, I promise!"

They were in Han Jaemi's house in Dogok-dong, lounging in the living room as they wait for the weekly broadcast of Music Core to begin. The boys of EXO are going to perform two songs later in the show: their new single Call Me Baby and their title track Exodus - and the three girls, no thanks to the constant reminders from Park Chanyeol, agreed to watch them together to show their support.

"You should do Jaemi's nails too," Byeoli suggested.

"Nah~ I bake everyday," Jaemi reminded, placing a plate of caramel-drizzled white chocolate chip cookies on the table. Her friends Jihye and Byeoli love caramel and white chocolate, respectively, so Jaemi decided to use those two flavors as the main ingredients for today's snacks. "It would be a waste of Ji's efforts if she practices her nail art skills on me."

"How about your toenails, then?" Jihye asked. She grabbed a bottle of dark brown nail polish, rolling it back and forth between her hands. Jihye couldn't remember who it was, but there was a beauty expert who once mentioned that the rolling technique was better than shaking the bottle because it prevents the accumulation of air bubbles in the lacquer.

Jaemi shook her head. "If it means I have to wear sandals everyday, then I guess I'll have to pass."

"Didn't you say you were going to make up for the cancelled blind date?" Jihye asked, tilting her head. The girls were supposed to attend a group blind date with Yonsei University students last Wednesday, but due to uncontrollable circumstances - e.g. the lateness of Jaemi's replacement and the chaos in the bubble tea shop - Jihye had no other choice, but to tell the engineering major that they couldn't make it after all.

"I did," Jaemi confirmed, grabbing the remote control to turn on the television. "That's why I'm going back to the kitchen to get that bowl of caramel popcorn." She switched the channel to MBC and adjusted the volume. "Appa also got us some ice cream from Baskin Robbins earlier."

"I really should have realized it sooner." Byeoli said, slowly picking a cookie, careful not to mess up the blue polish in her nails. "You two even support all the products they endorse - Baskin Robbins, Nature Republic..." she paused, pointing to Jihye's nail polish collection. "What else? You own clothes from Kolon Sport, SPAO, Kravitz, Boy Who Cried Wolf-"

"Jaemi's appa drives a Hyundai i40," Jihye interrupted.

When Jaemi asked what her father's car got to do with their current topic of discussion, Jihye reminded her that the specific car model she mentioned is part of Hyundai's PYL line. "Younique Unit, remember?" she explained, referring to the SM Entertainment sub-group composed of Super Junior's Eunhyuk, So Nyeo Si Dae's Hyoyeon, Super Junior-M's Henry, SHINee's Taemin, and EXO's Kai and Luhan.

"Appa bought that car before Maxstep was even released," Jaemi argued.

"Do you own MCM bags?" Byeoli asked.

Jihye told her that they didn't. "Those are super expensive!" she insisted, expertly painting tiny dark brown branches over the newly-dried sky blue polish on Byeoli's nails. "Besides, we've already been patronizing some of those products before EXO even endorsed them. Surely, you can't accuse me of only eating Pepero because they filmed a CF for the brand?"

"I still can't believe I miss all the signs," Byeoli sulked.

"Now that you've already met them... well, what do you think?" Jaemi asked, returning to the living room with the bowl of caramel popcorn she promised. "I mean, it's obvious that they all liked you. Some even fancy you! Jongdae, certainly! So, tell us! Did they meet your expectations?"

Byeoli slouched in her seat and got a slight slap on the knee from Jihye because of it. "Stay still!" she demanded, throwing a couple pieces of caramel popcorn into before painting another set of branches on her friend's middle fingernail. "They were embarrassing last Wednesday," Jihye said, carefully tidying up the excess dark brown polish near Byeoli's cuticles with a repurposed lip brush. "But they've always been like that, so I can't say I'm not surprised."

"They were a bit scary at first, but I think they're okay," Byeoli admitted. "The compliments were a bit exaggerated, so it's uncomfortable, but I think they'll snap out of the whole Song Hyekyo comparison soon. They seem friendly - a bit too friendly, perhaps - but at least they're not arrogant jerks who think they're the kings of the world."

Jaemi smiled mischievously. "What about Xing-Xing and 8g of Fat?"

"I can't believe you two just watched me fangirl over Lay and Sehun without telling me that they are your friends!" she complained, resting her fingers over a throw pilow after Jihye finished painting all the dark brown branches on her nails. "Oh God! The things I said about them! How embarrassing!"

Jang Byeoli, a classically trained pianist, was not a fan of EXO before she entered college. She knows a pop song or two, but she really wasn't the type who follows idol groups and their activities because she was more familiar with Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. After being friends with Jaemi and Jihye two years ago, however, she started to develop a liking for a few SM Entertainment groups, particularly EXO. They introduced her to the songs and idols that made K-pop popular with the rest of the world and before she knew it, she was already a fan.

"Still think they're hot?" Jihye teased.

The girl pretended to kick Jihye's arm and the Super Junior fan rolled on the carpeted floor laughing. Byeoli's face was all red. When Jaemi and Jihye made her watch EXO's debut music video, What is Love, the Sookmyung beauty immediately fell for two boys: the one dancing by the payphone and the one with the eclipse in his eye. "What was it? What did you say about Zhang Yixing's dancing?"

"I believe she said smoother than honey," Jaemi giggled.

"You two are evil!" Byeoli moped. She picked another one of those caramel-drizzled white chocolate chip cookies, holding it like she would a small piece of square-cut pizza before taking a small bite. "Was it amusing to watch me spazz over your friends?!?"

Jihye urged Byeoli to finish her cookie so she could get started on the cherry blossoms. She took out the new nail dotting tool set she bought in Myeongdong the other day and displayed it beside five bottles of nail polish: baby pink, white, dark brown, fuschia, and sky blue. "Hurry up! Let's finish this before Music Core starts," she said, grabbing the bottle of baby pink nail polish from Nature Republic. "XingArms and SeBooty need your full attention."

Byeoli's face was beet red now. How embarrassing she must have been then - crazily spazzing over Yixing's sculpted arms and Sehun's cute ? "Look who's talking!" she retorted, weakly kicking Jihye's leg. "Didn't you jaw drop after seeing XiuAbs during Exoluxion?!?"

Jaemi laughed at friends.

"My jaw didn't drop! I was just shocked that he had those things underneath his shirt, that's all," Jihye denied, not looking away from Byeoli's nails. She continued the cherry blossoms nail art using the pointillism technique to paint baby pink flowers near the brown branches. "And don't you laugh, Han Jaemi! You're not exactly innocent, either!"

Jaemi sat beside Byeoli on the couch, a handful of caramel popcorn on her left palm. "What did I do?"

"Let's just say that if you were fancam, your filename would include 'Kai focus' in it," Byeoli revealed, amazed at how Jihye managed to paint realistic-looking cherry blossoms using just three colors of nail polish. "You're seriously good at this, Jihye. If the whole coordi noona thing doesn't work out, you can just open your own nail salon."

"I wasn't focusing on just him!" Jaemi vehemently denied.

Jihye briefly looked away from the cherry blossom she was working on. "Yes, you were," she insisted, munching on three pieces of caramel popcorn. "And don't say that you were only monitoring him because you were worried that he'd injure his back again. Zitao was injured during the concert, but you didn't pay that much attention to him."

"But I was really worried about him," Jaemi maintained. "And my intuition was right, wasn't it? Jongin chingu did hurt himself during the concert." When she noticed two gentlemen singing on television, she grabbed the remote control and turned the volume up and told the other girls that Music Core has finally started.

"What's this song called?" Jihye asked, painting smaller fuschia dots in the middle of the baby pink flowers. Even though the title of the song Joy o'Clock was currently performing was flashed at the bottom-left part of the screen, Jaemi's best friend wasn't able to read it because she was facing away from the television.

Jaemi replied. "It's called Sorry, Stop It, Love You."

P.S. There are eight - yes, eight! - segments in Chapter 4, so it's going to be very long.
