style

Juliet likes to wear highly decorative clothing. Most of her outfits look like it could have been from a movie or a play. She might wear a fancy Victorian-era-inspired-dress with a little hair piece one day, and wear a poodle skirt the next day. She is not afraid of what others think of her fashion.

the inside.

personality

Juliet is very dramatic; she often uses exaggerated hand motions while talking, wears elaborate outfits, and can get tears to flow from her eyes within seconds. She knows that some of her peers, especially the ones in the theater program, actually do not like her and considers her a foolish drama queen. However, Juliet acts in a histrionic manner on purpose because she believes that she might be able to gain acceptance. Acting hides her loneliness in class and allows her to talk to others without letting others know the "real Han Juliet."

Whenever Juliet is hurt from mean criticisms, she would play one of the soundtracks from a list of her favorite musicals and play along with her cello. Playing the cello calms her and whether she knows it or not, cello became her trusty companion.

Although Juliet still loves theater and tries to make theater friends, she is goal driven and works hard on cello. In order to accomplish her dream as a professional cellist in a pit orchestra, she practices cello without anyone telling her to practice. Once she sets her mind to do something, she stubbornly (can be both positive and negative), gives undivided attention to the thing she is working on.

Due to her professor parents who often had dinner parties with their colleagues, Juliet is used to talking with adults. It gave her an advantage at interviews because she can express her ideas comfortably with people of authority. Juliet also has a pretty good relationship with her teachers, but some of her classmates think she is up to a teacher.

Juliet is super nice to the people she thinks are her real friends. She would do absolutely anything for her friends. But it takes a long time for Juliet to open up.

However, Juliet's friends might suffer from Juliet's possessiveness. She feels betrayed if her friend becomes a close friend with other students and might act bitterly to her friend's new friend.

As an only child with parents and uncle who gave her everything she ever wanted, Juliet isn't the most humble person. She knows that she is pretty, great actress, and an amazing cello player. She is critical of the way her peers act on stage, although she can't even stand in front of a classroom of 40 students.  She shares her criticism with others with a smile on her face. This makes her peers confused weather to get angry or say "thank you for the suggestion."

To add to Juliet's negative traits, she does not take rejection very well. She is used to passing auditions and passing exams. If she gets rejected or fails her test, she goes into a week of depression where she wears black outfits and cries at littlest comments.

background

Juliet was born in Lee Tae Won, a town in Korea well known for high population of foreigners (explains her semi-fluency in english). Although both of her parents were 100% Korean and she was born in Korea, her Shakespeare loving parents decided to name her Juliet instead of giving her a normal two syllable Korean name. However, her unique name allowed her to easily become friends with foreigners and she ended up loving her name even more after stepping into the theater life.
Despite the disapproval from her parents, who are both English Literature professors, her "crazy uncle" taught her tap-dancing, singing, and acting while babysitting her. With help from her uncle, she started auditioning for different musicals and plays since the age of 7. Although she would pass most of the auditions, she never got to perform on stage due to her extreme stage fright.
She started learning cello in order to play in the pit orchestra at the community theater program and played in the musical ever since 6th grade.
Juliet is a B student with a straight A’s in music and English. Her least favorite subject is math and it seems that her parents gave up in trying making her an engineer or a doctor.

family

▪ Han JongMin | Age 50 | Father | Used to take Juliet to watch plays when Juliet was little. He now wishes that Juliet focus a little bit more on her academics, but does not really forces her to study or anything. Real gentleman.
▪ Kim MiJin| Age 46 | Mother | The main reason Juliet can keep a B+ average. MiJin constantly naggs Juliet about doing her homework and studying for exams.

▪ Han JongSu| Age 40 | Uncle | A former actor(for plays not tv) who became a mentor and a teacher for Juliet. He lives with Juliet's family and does not have a job. He has a great sense of humor and is very sociable.

friends

▪ Lee SooJung | Age 17 | BFF | SooJung and Juliet have been friends ever since they were in preschool. SooJung is one of the only theater kids who truly considers Juliet as "one of them." She is very supportive of Juliet's musical life and is the "go-to-person" for when Juliet as problems. Their favorite activity together is going to watch the play at a local theater every Friday.

the one and only.

Instrument Chosen

Cello

Back-up Instrument

Bassoon

How did you start learning the instrument? Did anyone inspire/force you to start?

My uncle suggested that I learn to play the cello and play in the pit orchestra since I have hard time standing in front of a large crowd. I like the idea of being able to hide my face behind such a large instrument and just focus on the music rather than looking at the audience directly.

Do you like music or do you just see it as pressure? why?

I like music; although, I wouldn't consider music my number one passion. Currently, I feel like music is the only thing that keeps me connected to the theater world. But if I could act in front of the audience, I would chose acting over playing music.

what is you favorite style of music? favorite musician/composer? favorite pieces?

I don't like classical or pop music, but I like operas and soundtracks for musicals and movies. My favorite composer is Alan Irwin Menken and my favorite piece of music is "The Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera.

how long have you played the instrument? do how often do you practice?

I played cello since I was in first grade, so for about 10 years. I practice every day for at least 90minutes, but practice for 4 hours with 30 minute break after the first 2 hours.

are you apart of any high school clique? if so, please list them.

I would like to consider myself to be one of the theater kids, although I'm not sure if most of them even consider my part of their group. Other than the theater group, I guess I can be part of the music kids; but then, I don't really have close friends in my music class. Well, I'm definitely not one of the nerds or the athletes.

comments/suggestion

Juliet is a girl that covers all her negative feelings with a happy and dramatic (might look foolish) act.

She needs to learn to have courage to open up to people without acting.

Juliet does not have any real conflicts with her family.

-hope you enjoyed reading the application!!!-

scene request

Since her name is Juliet, it would be cool if she has "love at first sight" moment with her love interest.

What strikes me is that there's a very fine line between success and failure. Just one ingredient can make the difference.
