What's considered going too far in a story?

Up to what point is something in a story going too far that might offend the readers?

Are things like murder and fine? But is or manslaughter bad? Cussing is fine, but then racial slurs can hurt a person. I think it all depends on what a specific person finds offensive to them rather than a whole general audience. What about you guys?

well i really cringe at like-- homophobic characters in story but i always try to remind myself: it's just the character that's saying this.

but i think too far imo is probably :/ im not cool with those kinda stories.
