appearance » Small face, large-ish dark brown eyes, deep dimples and black hair that won't let go of its straightness, Jaerin doesn't stand out normally from crowds (apart from the pale skin that most Filipino women would kill for), but then again, most people say to her that she really just needs to develop the habit of taking care of her appearance and being a bit vain. They also argue that she looks insanely good when made up, because then her stunning features like her (surprisingly) long lashes, doe-like eyes, and smooth, lively skin are accentuated. Jaerin is tall, taller than most of her female classmates at 5'6", and her slender limbs, long honey legs and delicate, shapely figure are always concealed by either uniform or those weirdly unfitting clothes for her (having a small waist, shapely hips and long legs doesn't warranty well-fitted pants, okay). If one makes her stretch enough, however, there are glimpses of muscle that she had build up from years of training.
style » Jaerin is a fan of black and white, and you probably won't spot her without at least something black or white or both in her outfit. She also loves hoodies, pullovers, anything with long sleeves (that goes past her fingers) that she probably would roll up later and then stretch to cover her fingers and then roll back again. She's not above wanting to look cute with her clothes, so she tries at least to make them fit her figure (which actually isn't that hard) but then she always has the problem with bottoms like pants and skirts and whatnot because they always look too short or too baggy on her (like she still has a pair of "skinny" jeans that just look like they're straight-cut instead), so she resorts mainly to shorts. She also adores closed shoes, and the day she doesn't wear them is the day that she'll just resort to slippers, because she just absolutely loathe open-toed shoes ("They catch dust from the road. That's super uncomfortable."). Lastly, she loves every sort of wrist accessory. Be it a watch that was probably meant to be worn by males, or a bracelet made of "tiger eye" gems (that's what the vendor told her), or even a hairtie.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine." — Most people see Jaerin in her natural state: that of an easygoing, laidback and hospitable girl aspiring to be a performer. Raised in the midst of Filipino values, Jaerin grew up accommodating people, welcoming them and accepting them with open arms, and, like how Filipinos are considered as the "Happiest People on Earth" because of their ability to smile through hardships, she also has grown to see the bright side of things and situations. She isn't necessarily extremely cheerful (she is cheerful, but not overly so), but there is a sense of warmness in her exuded by her values as a Filipino and that attracts people to her. Despite her age, she is seen by many of her friends, acquaintances and close ones as someone who makes for a wonderful "mother-type", mainly due to the fact that she is quite caring towards others, even those older than her, and her ability to see through people allows her to act based on how they feel. It is also because of these initial traits that she can be seen as quite wise.
"I am not always what I appear to be — after all, humans are not only black or white." — Courteous to a fault, Jaerin shows respect to everyone she meets, calling them the proper honorifics and respecting their decisions and choices, but it has also made her indecisive, due to the fact that she wants to respect what others would want first before she decides on her own. But this also has its limitations: despite how she looks and acts on first (and despite her patience that takes a long while to run out), Jaerin also has a developed sense of independence that is untameable. Because she only makes decisions out of her own volition when the time calls for it, she expects others to respect her decisions as she respects theirs, and if they don't, then her courteousness all but disappears and she tends to act on her own whims. Selfish and stubborn if you will, but when people can't respect her they same way she respects them, then she only treats them the way she thinks they deserve to be treated. She also cannot bring herself to ask help from others — a side facet of her independence. Her parents raised her to stand on her own two feet and to solve all her problems on her own, so it takes quite some effort to convince her to let others extend a helping hand.
"A heart and soul that does not know how to form bonds is worthless." — Honesty and loyalty are two values that she tries hard to maintain, and so also expects it from others. However, this exact honesty of hers is still quite unbridled, so she tends to blurt things out of her mind in the form of good-natured teasing and poking fun at people. She thinks, of course, that it's all harmless fun since she also gets a lot of teasing and jokes thrown at her own expense, and it usually is, but she also unconsciously insults other people because of it. Her loyalty in others is rock-solid, as if she would go to the ends of the world and beyond for them, but it can make her blind on their faults at times. On the other spectrum, she doesn't like being lied to — she can take all the criticism in the world but making her believe in something false is a sin in her books. Maybe it's because of her Sagittarius temperament, or maybe it's because she was raised in a way that she hesitates everytime she even so much as think of lying to her parents, but it's still a given that loyalty for her equates to honesty and if she comes across a lie, she loses all sense of trust in a person. And that trust is something that is difficult to recover.
"Humility is a righteous virtue" — Being laidback, Jaerin keeps her training in stride — she places a lot of effort when it's time to train but she doesn't when it's out of the schedule for the day — but she has a lot of unspoken passion about performing. She has a lot of potential for singing but she hardly recognizes her talents and even plays them off, which tends to make people set her lower then what she could possibly achieve. But when she isactually putting her heart and soul into what she is doing, she enters what could be called as a "zone": a bubble where the world and everything else doesn't exist, and it is just her and what she loves that is important. In this, she actually can even neglect herself until she drops dead tired on the floor. That is, however, a seldom's occurrence, which can actually shock people.
"This is but the surface." — In lighter notes, Jaerin has a really, really, really shallow, but smart, sense of humor. She laughs easily at well-placed jokes, especially puns, but then she frowns at jokes that are trying too hard. She's also easily impressed, and it is no exaggeration to say that bringing her in a museum will entertain her for hours on end. Jaerin is also eternally curious, sticking her nose into every piece of knowledge she can sniff up. And lastly, she likes to put in a lot of fandom references in her phrases. Once, she made a pun and was prepared enough that she even brough shades and executed the perfect CSI-pun-meme en pointe. Needless to say, her interlocutor lost it.

TRAINEE BACKGROUND » There wasn't much that Jaerin found rather surprising about trainee life because she's spent almost a big part of her current life going through the same thing, only that it was about sports/martial arts and not performing. She was one of those normal trainees in the sense that she didn't cause that much trouble, albeit many of the trainees found her to be like an older sister so they tend to see her as one (even the older trainees called her "-unnie" or "-noona" before they knew of her real age).

Jaerin's past wasn't all that remarkable, at least that's what she thinks. She was born in the Philippines alongside her younger sister by two bankers for parents. She grew up with an appreciation for music, and immersed in her father's weird obsession over American songs. She and her family moved between South Korea and the Philippines a lot, partly due to family matters (paternal side is in Korea, maternal side is in the Philippines), but mostly she spent her growing years in South Korea.
She used to be an overconfident, if not hyperactive, grade schooler who rocked different sorts of contest due to her confidence, talent, and most of all, a face that most Filipinos would consider "cute". She used to be bullied in grade school which started because she was a new student and eventually persisted "just because" but always fought for herself, like how kids would usually do, and maybe that was the reason why her bullies never grew tired of bullying her: for her reactions.
At age 12, she was already in high school in the Philippines, mainly due to the education system that had no middle school during her time. That time, she was also in her second year of martial arts training and had some sports trainings on the side, mainly because of her school's "One-Week-Training Period" for a Sports Festival that happens annually. Alongside the development that came along with puberty, she also had to deal with a changing environment and classmates who developed ahead of her, and thus, her still-grade-schooler-like appearance and personality (and growing popularity) made her even a more target of bullies, which affected her attitude and made her shy and insecure. She grew to resent her high school classmates, but oddly enough got along with her classmates in her fourth and final year of class (explaining her bias, or favoritism, over them over everything, even her nickname) due to her finally maturing and knowing how to deal with how people treated her.
After high school, at 16, she decided to fly to South Korea with her father to take her college there, as a part of the deal that her father made with her paternal grandparents that, before she turns 18, she has to permanently live with them, immerse in their culture, and make her a legal Korean since she lived in the Philippines and is considered as a Filipino in all aspects. The relationship she had with her paternal grandparents were rocky, but she had a great time with her cousins, and one of them started to influence her into liking K-Pop (she used to pass over it in high school, the time when K-Pop was all the jazz in the Philippines). Even though she was only 16, since she has already graduated from high school in the Philippines, she decided to go with the natural route and enter college in South Korea. After all, it wasn't that rare of an occurence with Asian countries.
She was scouted a little later on, when she was still in the process of enrolling for college, while she was touring Korea with her father on her way to look out at universities. A representative of Jellyfish Ent. saw her getting lost when she took a wrong turn to Seoul National University and after a small talk (and after she tracked down her father who got separated), she was advised to audition for the company. She waited a month before making her decision, taking into consideration that, one, she really was in Korea for her studies and that should come first, two, she's had some thought about her talents but never explored them after those vocal lessons from when she was still a little kid, and three, she didn't know if she had it in her to be an idol. She still auditioned because she thought that she might have regrets later on if she didn't, and she couldn't believe it when she passed.

personality » The "Poker Face Chic" of VIXX is one of their two main vocals. Jung Taekwoon may look like he's eternally judging everyone's existence and sanity (it's a resting face, c'mon) but once he smiles, call an ambulance. This man is the most reserved out of the VIXX members, and he usually seems like he's not enjoying himself, but seriously, he is enjoying himself, he just can't convey it properly because he'd really just rather be sitting there and watching his 5 idiotic brothers laugh around. Also, no one in their group has the guts to force Leo to do something (probably because of his resting face, again)... except for their leader N. Probably the reason why he and N gets shipped a lot. Leo may be the "cold, cool chic" of the group, but the members can't deny the fact that he gets easily touched by messages to him from his fans, by simple gestures like giving him gifts or giving him support, and he cries the most out of the six guys. Yeah, that's cold and cool right there.
relationship » They're friends. Not as close as she and Hongbin are, but they have a quiet understanding of each other.
love story » Taekwoon is a believer of love at first sight, and it's no wonder why: he had an initial attraction with Jaerin at first glance. It wasn't because she was cute (though he inwardly admits that she is cute), but it's because of her nature towards them, how she, despite being the dongsaeng/hoobae, reached out to them and was prepared to take care of the VIXX sunbaes in a heartbeat. Her warmth, her radiating happiness, her optimism, and her solid conviction swayed him fully. Meanwhile, Jaerin didn't realize that she had a crush on him until she was confronted one day by Hongbin, and she denied it even if it was true. She fell hard for him when she became aware of his actions, how he's quiet but thoughtful of s, and even the staff, and how he appreciates the things in life that most people take for granted. All in all, she loves his smile, his quiet demeanor, and his fatherly ways the best.
history » They met when VIXX was preparing for a comeback in 2014, namely, Error. Jellyfish Ent. was looking for a female lead for their group's MV, and they decided to get Jaerin since they did allow her to star in a couple of MVs before. While she and Hongbin were practicing for the part where she finally awakens as an android, the rest of VIXX visited the set and that's when they first saw each other. Jaerin walked over to them and introduced herself, and offered to get them chairs and refreshments. The others, particularly Hakyeon, reassured her that they'd be fine, and they chatted with her for a bit since it was their first time meeting each other and she was putting in effort for their MV, after all. Despite the fact that Taekwoon hardly said a word, it didn't mean that he and Jaerin never talked — on the contrary, Jaerin really seemed determined in knowing him most out of the other members, and so she tried to gently coax him out of his silence. It actually surprised Taekwoon that he didn't almost want to leave the set when the other members called for him, but when Jaerin ask for his (and the others') contact details, he obliged, with the thought that they'd definitely talk again soon.
interactions » They're very casual with each other, though not how Hongbin and Jaerin are level-wise. Taekwoon mostly seemed content with listening to her, but she also takes care not to overwhelm him with talking too much. Both make an effort to connect with each other, Jaerin the most, and when they are not together, they resort to texting each other through Kakao or LINE. Jaerin is very attentive of his needs, like offering him water, or offering him a seat if he needs to, and even is one of the first people who has the guts to stop him when he moves in to hit one of the VIXX members. It's odd since they look and act like they're together, but they're not really together. Taekwoon is very appreciative of how Jaerin often extends a helping hand to him, while Jaerin is perpetually curous about him since his silent demeanor doesn't reveal much about him. Unbeknownst to him, Taekwoon gets jealous of Hongbin's and Jaerin's close relationship, and it might be because of this that he tends to hog Jaerin without meaning to, in an effort to keep her away from Hongbin. He's not aware, though, and he thinks that it's just because he likes her company, and she isn't aware of it as well but everyone knows.
