You could make them talk about what they like and dislike. They can share thoughts on their friends and make each other jealous. A topic where one would feel envious of what they are saying. That would be interesting.
they could talk about school or assessments since they're in highschool. Like it could be a tad awkward at first but then they slowly ease into it and then just let it flow from there
maybe include a flashback somehwere because why not right?
I read something about high school classmates [on one of your replies]. Why don't you have them talk about sports or clubs [if one of them is involved in them]. About how what they do in their clubs? Or how practice is going if they're in a sport. Since one [or both] are crushing on each other why don't you have one of them describing or they could let slip out how they've seen them playing sports or doing activities for their club....
