To the Customers at Build-A-Bear (Retail Stores in General)

After sleeping for only like 7 hours, I woke up at 7am and went through an 8 hour driving improvement class... In a tiny room with over 20 people.

I'm claustrophobic, and that room was NOT helping me. I hate smoking but after each break (we had like 4 of them) people reeked of it and stunk up the tiny room. Last but not least, the teacher was weird and monotoned and so was the loooong video. I thought I was going to die in there.

An hour after that torture, I had to go to work. Now, I only had a four hour shift, but I feel like today was the worst day I have ever worked in. I've worked for a good five months at Build-a-Bear and I have worked during the Holiday/Christmas Rush and was dehydrated for a good four hours before finally getting a SIP of water (I didn't bring my water bottle that day and I was too broke to buy one.); I went through this ignorant grandpa calling me handicap (I only have one hand), BUT! NOTHINGGG pissed me off more than today.

Now.. Here's a little PSA.

To all the customers of ANY business,

We are NOT your pets. You do NOT treat us with any less respect you want us to give to you. We, employees, are simply the "messangers". We do not create the prices, the coupons, the promos, the items... WE DO NOT DECIDE ANYTHINGG! We simply do what we are TOLD TO DO. Just because you disagree/do not like something does NOT mean we are there to be your verbal punching bags.

Now.. to (specifically) customers of Build-A-Bear,

We are NOT a free day care. You canNOT just let your three year old child lose in the store. That is 1) Extremely Irresponsible so get it together. 2) Extremely Disrespectful because (especially on a Saturday), we are busy af. We don't have time to watch over the hundreds of kids that walk through that entrance.

Don't waste our ing time by letting them build a stuffed animal, only to give it right back to us and say that you weren't planning to buy it. It wastes our time for helping you go through every ing step, stuffing the stupid bear that takes 2-3 minutes, and sewing up the bear that takes another 2-3 minutes. Then after you just throw it back at us, we have to cut those strings and unstuff that bear that takes literally 10 minutes to do. Then when another person wants to actually BUY that bear, we have to give it back to the manager to sew it up because we had to cut the ing strings, which THAT takes 3 minutes for us (to get the manager to get started) and it takes the manager a good 5-8 minutes. Not only are you wasting our time, but youre wasting YOUR time, as well as other customers while they have to wait for your stupidity to finish. With that, you have wasted over 20 minutes of our time.. and thats for PER BEAR. Also, if you're "just looking". Don't flip over the entire ing store and make us clean it up again. It may not seem like it, but those stuffed animals take FOREVER to make it look nice; a good 10-15 minutes if the store was as bad it was today)

Now.. this is what REALLY pissed me off.

At Build a bear, we had this promotion which is if you buy at least $25 worth of stuff, you can get a $10 gift card for only $5 (per $25); and it never expires. Sounds simple, right? To many people. Yes. To some idiotic people? NO.

Long story short, a woman buys over $25 worth of stuff so she was allowed to get one of those cards. I explained that to her, and she said yes. Then she asked me why the cost is so high. I told her each items' costs and when I got to the gift card, she was confused. For some reason, she thought it was for free. I explained "You're paying $5, for $10. This card is worth $10" (Like woman, it's printed bold af, and it's covering the entire front of the card. How can you miss).

"So I'm paying $5, for $5?" (The stupid woman)

"Technically yes, You're paying $5 for a gift card but you get $5 extra for free". (Me, who's getting slightly irritated).

She kept going on and on and on (Literally, this was wasting five minutes of my time, when I had other ing guests waiting.) I reminded her it's a promo and if she doesn't want it, she doesn't have to get it. (We talk about this for a good 2 minutes.)

"Yeah, I'm not getting that." She ing cuts me off. Then she went on saying it doesn't make sense, its stupid, etc etc. And this , is ing taking it out on me, acting as if it's MY fault. Like seriously? I'M JUST AN EMPLOYEE OF THIS PLACE, WHO ING ONLY MAKES $8.50 AN HOUR. I'M NOT THE ING CEO THAT DECIDES EVERYTHING.

I'm getting all pissed because she's wasting my ing time, she's rude as , and she's going on and on about something she could've just said "no thanks" and be done with. While I'm thinking of this in my head as I was packing up her , I'm so done, I cut her off since she was STILL going at it and said "Ma'am, you're not getting it." She finally shuts the up, and I just hand her her and don't even say a "have a nice day/night" like how I do to every customer. I simply toss her recipt and look away after giving her a slightly dirty look.

What many people has to realize is... retailers are ing people too. Outside of the workplace, I'm still an eighteen year old college kid, just trying to make some money. I have feelings and problems... and I don't need more problems from disrespectful people who think they OWN me because they're paying for stuff.

Last thing before I shut up.

YOU, CUSTOMERS, DON'T OWN US. YOU'RE NOT THE ONE WHOS DIRECTLY GIVING US OUR PAYCHECKS. yes, you help it a lot but the ones whos really paying us are the people who has their signiture at the bottom of my paycheck. And even if you do pay us, who the do you think you are to treat someone with so much disrespect.

Anyway, I'm done.

Now you know how not to act at a retail store... PLEASE know.
