PERSONALITY
 
Personality : Hongchul has a very peaceful personality. He is quiet and only speaks when spoken to. He's very forgetful and is always forgetting everything, even simple things like brushing his teeth or important dates(birthdays, holidays, anniversary, etc). He needs constant reminding about things, and even then he'll still usually forget. However he has excellent long term memory and once he learns a dance or song he never forgets it, so is excellent at mimicing dances from other groups. Hongchul hates fighting and refuses to do so, even on game shows. He is polite and is very respectful towards his elders. Although Hongchul has never been in a relationship, he gives excellent relationship advice. It's the sort of advice you'd need to think over for a few days, almost like a fortune cookie. Hongchul is extremely good with kids because he can get down to their eye level, and he's really good at translating baby talk. He's very mature for his age. He's really clumsy and trips over his feet a lot. Hongchul is a bit of a "noona-killer" because he's just cute without trying. He's practically bursting with aegyo but he's too dense to realize it.
   
School life ( during Trainee days and after debut; if still in school ) : Hongchul was that weird kid in school, the one nobody talked to and ignored. He didn't mind it though because he liked being a loner. He never spoke in school or participated in class but still got good grades because he always turned his homework in on time, did extra credit and got good test grades. People bullied him from a young age and even now, after debut, he's still bullied. In his third year of elementary school(still in Japan at that time) he was part of a classical music club where he played the harp. He went to a private school for rich kids when he lived in Japan and was homeschooled by his cousin when he came to South Korea and during training. He goes to a regular public high school after debut.

Family Background : Just because he came from a rich family didn't mean he had a good life. Hongchul was a late developer, not speaking or walking until he was a 1 year old. He didn't even get his first tooth until he was almost 2. After that, though, he was a rapid devloper. He was reading full sentences by the time he was 3 and was already taking singing lessons. His parents considered him an almost perfect child. In mind and intelligence he was perfect to them, but in appearance he had a ways to go. Secretly and with a private surgeon, Hongchul's parents made him get double eyelid surgery and had his chin made less profound at the age of 5. Hongchul's older brother, Jaewon, began to rebel against their parents after that. He wanted out as soon as possible. Even though Hongchul was young he knew what was going on and followed Jaewon, rebelling against his parents. Tamura sent Jaewon and Hongchul to her sister, Eunji, in South Korea. Recently Eunji's husband, Sooyoung, had died so she was happy to take care of them. Hongchul was only 9 then. Money was a bit tight though since Sooyoung just died, but the three made the best of things.

TRAINEE DAYS
 
- How did you get into the company ? : To earn money for him and his brother and cousin, Hongchul spent a lot of time playing the harp in a park near the apartment complex when he was just 10 years old. Even though it was a pain dragging the harp everywhere he still did it for the sake of money. Someone came by one day and gave him a large sum of money. Honghcul went to give it back and the man said in exchange for the money Hongchul would have to try out at YG. It was a weird offer but Hongchul agreed and tried out, getting in after only one try-out.
  
- For how long did you train ? : 6 years (since he was 10)
  
- How did you live your trainee day ? : Hongchul didn't talk much with the other trainees, he just hung around by himself. He'd come in earlier than other trainees so he could get extra training done. Bom from 2NE1 began to help Hongchul out with singing lessons after he had been training for almost four years. His voice improved even more with her help and he strived to work harder. He strained his voice a few times throughout his training, and was once beat up by some fellow trainees. He needed a lot of help with his dancing because of how clumsy he was, and he needed help with rapping too even though he doesn't rap much.
