My Very Long Hiatus: An Explanation
Hello everyone! ^ ^
You've all probably forgotten me, but I used to write ty stories haha! I am aware most of my stories are currently on extensive hiatus and that almost everyone will probably think, 'Hm this FIC hasn't been updated in like three years wtf'.
Yeah I feel you. I so badly want to start writing again, but because of several reasons I can't. And because I have been gone a while I feel like I should explain myself:
1) I am in university. I am currently a first year Microbiology student and things have been very hectic since I started university back in September. I've had to adjust to new surroundings, deal with living with complete strangers, manage my own finances and time and beings away from home. I don't know what it is about university, but it literally drains you. Even if I've only had one lecture and a lab report to do, my energy levels has just been down. Trust me when I say that I do not write my best with 3 hours worth of sleep.
2) I just feel like no one really reads my stories. I get a lot of notifications (even now) of people subscribing and a handful telling me to update. But as a writer who struggles to write good quality work, what kind of comment is that?! I'm e at critiquing my own work, and if I need to fix something it takes me ages to find a solution. And if I come out with a new chapter, a lot of people would subscribe and give me the bland 'oh update soon' and 'this was good'. What did you like about it? Did you even read it? If I update soon, what kind of progression in the characters would you like to see? For those of you who have short comments/never commented, does my work not deserve your critique? Those are the questions I always ask myself, hoping to find the answers on the comments section. I welcome constructive criticism, comments on how I can make this story and your reading experience better. Because I don't get paid to write, I do it for fun and because I enjoy giving the fandom something to read about. There's so many stories with lots of subscribers and the comment section screaming 'update soon'; this will not improve my writing. And I get so discouraged that I can't muster the effort to write a new chapter. I hope everyone realises this, and that your vocal encouragement can really perk up an author or a graphics designer.
3) My laptop is dead. Simple enough, as soon as I moved in to halls, my laptop just flat out died on me. And since I didn't have the funds to fix it, I'm stuck with my phone/iPad and they're both ancient as hell. So I definitely can't write anything worthwhile on such a tiny device.
So those are my reasons! I do appreciate my subscribers and event my silent readers. It does make me happy when someone from the other side of the globe decides that my humble works deserve their attention even for a few moments. I'd also like to thank the graphic designers who made my posters; I am graphically challenged, but thank God for poster request shops and their talented designers!! Don't forget to give them love too folks!
So thats it from me. Semester two examinations are just a few weeks away, and after that a few more weeks then I am done with first year. Which is very alarming. I hope I can draft a few new chapters, because I am quite desperate to get it out there. If you notice too, some of my stories have had brand new story posters. They're all quite beautiful, so if you want, you can go on an Easter egg hunt and see which ones have updated! Have a wonderful Easter break, and I hope you're all doing well. ^ ^
