Craft #13: Paper fans/florettes

Colorful aren't they? These are paper fans or what others call, florettes. And I made a dozen for my boss' birthday. He turns 50 tomorrow :3

I followed this tutorial. Each is around 34-36cm in diameter. Six sheets makes one big fan, three whole cardboard sheets (21.5cm x 33cm).

My left wrist hurts from holding the ruler in place, as I scored 72 sheets (21.5cm x 16cm), approximately 1cm apart.

Despite the ache in my wrists and shoulders, I persevered last night as I used my x-acto knife to score 44 sheets. I mean, if you are working with pretty colors, you wouldn't mind a bit.

And folding it in an accordion was therapeutic. Flipping the sheet back and forth as I folded it somehow relaxed my wrists.

Applying the glue was a bit messy as I always end up having glue smeared onto the tips of my fingers. But the moment I attached all six parts and flattened it, it was bliss.

I would have sewn the inner circle, to close it tight, but since I don't have that much time, I only used Elmer's glue and slapped a circle on top to hide the gaping hole in the center. HAHA. That's the main reason why the diameter of each fan is different. It depends on how tight I closed the circle.

If  you plan to do this, just cut a whole board in half, crosswise. Score and fold. Glue each piece, attaching the top of the first sheet to the bottom of the last like a ring or a cylinder. You'll need six. Or divide it into four sheets and you'd make a mini fan :3

Right now, I'm doing the banner. Handwri- Doodling it on colored sheets as well.  I will show you how everything turned out tomorrow, once I documented the venue before the party starts. HEHE.

And this is the part where Keeper vents. Huff.

I don't mind doing the decorations alone. I can do it. Preferred it that way. Because then, I wouldn't have to suffer through the complaints of "volunteers". asking me why, why, why and suggesting methods that are not as "hard" but I just know wouldn't give the results I like. Why don't we just do this or that? Why do we have to do this?

Also, I wouldn't be disappointed because I wouldn't expect anything from anyone, who will always fail me anyway. Just stop telling me that you would help when you won't. Gah. They always appear when the job is done or when I'm at the part when I can't hand them the job. Same old story. At least, they offered and they didn't feel guilty about not helping. It's so hard for me to trust people to do simple tasks.

I entrusted them with cutting the props for our photobooth but afternoon came and still no sign of the cut outs. Cut outs that have to be attached to sticks. It's okay; it was done before. But I was really annoyed at that person who couldn't care less and sounds relieved that they never delivered the cut outs because then she wouldn't have to help attach them to the sticks.  The sticks that she always forgot to get for me when she told me she would several times since yesterday that I had to get it myself >.>

It was never "we"; just "me". I always tell that it would be the last time. But yeah, I always get volunteered and I don't like shirking from responsibility. Besides, I learned my lesson. I did all the fans... and now the banner.

The photobooth props? I'll just deal with it because there are things that is beyond my control. I am going to put up my banner and fans; and if there is no photobooth tomorrow, then that is no longer my fault.

I just noticed that every January - February, I'm artsy. Usually graphics, then crochet, and then graphics and layouts... HAHA. As March begins, I wonder what this Keeper would be exploring... (but I should really update my profile and threads).
