Chirping of crickets accompanied on your nightly stroll, a big bright moon hung amongst the twinkling stars, crisp cool air hit your exposed legs while your hand wrapped around the one strapped bag hanging on your shoulder. Wondering a few more blocks, a darkened house came into view, rounding the corner your eyes followed the numbers above the front door.

Following the winding path at the front of the house, you carefully pulled our a spare key and pushed it into the front door. Twisting and turning the key slightly, you opened the front door with ease as a faint light came on to welcome you in. Shutting the door behind you, you slipped your shoes off of your feet quietly, picking your shoes up into your hands, you stepped into your boyfriend’s, Xiumin, home.

Allowing your eyes to wonder over the dark interior, you smiled seeing everything in it’s place, just how Xiumin liked it. Taking your time to make your way to his bedroom, you allowed your eyes to trail over his furniture, across the books that lined along his shelves along with the movies next to them. Reaching his bedroom door, you slowly pushed the slightly ajar door open as his blue comforter cascaded over the form of the bed.

Flipping on the bedroom lights, you carefully padded through his room, placing your backpack at the foot of his bed along with your shoes. Shimming off your jacket you folded it nicely and placed it on top of your backpack. Resting on the edge of his bed, you pulled your phone out from your pocket as you couldn’t help but click on his contact and read the previously sent messages.

“I miss you” You mutter quietly, your three words fill the silent air as the crickets continued to sing their muffled song. Crawling on the top of his bed, you slipped under the covers as your head rested against his fluffy, white pillows. Lifting your phone a little higher for you to see, you tapped his folder on your phone, flipping through the pictures of him on your phone, you smiled and gently felt yourself relax.

Slipping your phone onto the bed side table, you plugged in your phone before turning off the lamp lights and closing your eyes while the subtle scent of his cologne filled the sheets. Fluttering your eyes closed, sleep held you in its grasp while dreams began to fill your mind while you fell deeper and deeper into sleep.

Rays of sunlight peeked over the horizon, the front door swung open to a shuffling pair of feet, lazily kicking off the shoes that housed his feet, he placed the shoes on his rack. Allowing the door to close behind him, he placed his duffel bag in it’s place before he went to the kitchen to get a drink. Leaning against the counter, he sighed while his eyes wondered around his place, happy to be back home after such a long tour.

Twisting off the sealed cap to the water, he slowly made his way up the stairs to his bedroom, nothing sounded more perfect than to sleep off the exhaustion caused by concerts, practice, and jet lag. Reaching the top of the stairs, he carefully ran his fingers across the tops of the railing before he turned to enter into his room. 

Pushing the door open, his tired body paused as his eyes fell on a figure sleeping in his bed, underneath his covers. Curiosity began to grow as the sunlight grew brighter in the room, moseying over to the edge of his bed, he carefully sat his water bottle down on the bedside table.

Recognizing your phone sitting on the table, charging, he tilted his head to the side as he looked over at the body tangled under the blue duvet. Xiumin’s eyes gently wondered over your hair to the top of the covers, bringing his hand up, he pulled the covers down slightly to reveal your angelic sleeping face before him.

“Hi sweetheart” His heart instantly melted while a smile curled his lips slightly, brushing some hair out of your eyes, he observed you for a few minutes letting his eyes slowly wonder to why you were here.

A vibration from his pocket pulled his attention away from you, standing upright, he pulled out his phone and made a quick exit out of his room in attempts of trying not to wake you. Once outside his room, he pulled out his phone to see the notification flash across the screen of his phone.

It was your birthday

Glancing over his shoulder at the closed door behind him, a small smile that rested on his lips gently turned into a large grin as ideas started to pool into his mind. Biting his lip, he gently tapped his phone against his chin as he thought through the multiple plans that were forming in his head. 

Typing out a group message on his phone to all of your close friends and family, he skipped back down the stairs, grabbing his jacket he slipped out the front door in attempts to make this the best birthday yet for you.

Commotion from downstairs woke you slightly, whining softly, you turned over and tried to fall back to sleep. Yet the sun shined into your eyes begging you to wake up and enjoy the day, bringing your hand up to your eyes, you rolled back over and rubbed your sun blinded eyes. Yawning slightly, you pushed yourself upright in the bed, surveying his room, you smiled softly seeing a few pictures of himself on his walls.

A loud thump caught your attention as you turned your head to the slightly opened door. Muffled chatting allowed your curiosity to grow, slipping your legs over the side of the bed, you carefully eased yourself onto them before you moved to the doorway. Peeking your head outside the safe bedroom, you didn’t see a soul in sight, making your way out of the bedroom a little more, you looked down over the banister.

Pacing back and forth, a figure gently pulled at his bottom lip while his other hand slipped into the back pocket of his jeans. Taking a few steps then turning around lazily to walk a few more, tilting your head at this odd action, you rubbed your eyes to try and get a better look at the man to see if you knew him.

Thinking you had to get a closer look, you made your way over to the stairs as you made your way down the stairs. Watching the figure, you recognized the way he walked, the way he moved and the soft sighs that spilled from his lips.

“Bao Xi?” You questioned quietly, your hand slowly sliding down the handrail. The soft coo of his nickname seemed to grab his attention as his pacing stopped.

“Xiumin, is that you?” You stepped down a few more stairs as he slowly turned around, revealing himself to you.

“Hello, beautiful” He whispered just enough for you to hear, a broad smile formed on his lips as he began trotting over to the base of the stairs. Skipping the rest of the way down, you couldn’t help but move faster as you watched his arms stretch out on either side of him.

Jumping off from the last few stairs, you ran up to him and gently jumped into his arms, wrapping your arms around his strong shoulders as his arms wrapped firmly around your torso holding you securely against him. Not knowing what to do with your dangling legs, you slowly brought them up and wrapped them around his hips to try and help him to hold you up.

“Welcome home Mandoo” You whispered next to his ear while one of your hands gently cradled the back of his neck while his spinning began to slow slightly.

“It feels wonderful to come home to you, jagiya” Xiumin’s voice was slightly deeper as the warm air from his breath brushed over the shell of your ear. His twirling slowly stopped as he pulled away from you after a while.

“I have something to show you” He remarked as he brought one hand up and gently tucked some fallen strands of hair before tucking them behind your ear.

“You do?” You whisper, pulling back as well, just happy to have him in your arms once again.

“Follow me” He says with a smile, setting you back down on the ground, his fingers laced with yours as the two of you skipped to the basement door and he lead you down the stairs, the dark basement welcomed you as he stopped at the base of the stairs.

Just as about you were to question Xiumin, the lights flipped on and everyone jumped out from their hiding places as balloons fell to the floor as other floated, confetti cascaded down from the ceiling as “Happy Birthday” Echoed from all of the voices in the room.

Awe struck you as you just held your mouth open and held Xiumin’s hand tighter. Feeling his hand hold yours back just as tightly, you smiled brighter as your eyes scanned all of the faces in the room. Discovering that they were all of your close friends and family, you turned to Xiumin in disbelief that this was actually happening, that he threw you a surprise birthday party, and that he was home.

“D-D-Did you do this?” You whispered as everyone started to mingle around the finished basement of Xiumin’s place.

“Happy Birthday Girly“ He smiled letting his chocolate eyes sparkle under the recess lighting, slowly leaning in he pressed his lips against your cheek, placing a few kisses across your skin, his hand carefully pulled you against his side.

Turning your body, you wrapped both of your arms around his torso while your head rested against his strong, secure chest. “Thank you” You mumbled into his cotton shirt. Nodding his head lightly against yours, he planted another kiss amongst your hair, running his hands along your back, he slightly pulled away.

“Shall we go play some games now?” Xiumin’s eyes were full of hope and excitement as a child’s would.

“I bet I will still beat you” You sang pulling away from the comforting hug

“Wanna bet?” Xiumin pulled away, ready to run to the closest game to challenge you with.

“It’s on” You nodded as the two of you made your way into the crowd and began to play all of the games and celebrated his homecoming as well as your birthday.

Laughter, smiles, and sugar were all high that whole day as you enjoyed every minute of your birthday, especially when you spent it with the ones you loved and that included your amazing boyfriend, Xiumin.
