Chapter 1
Ghost Husband"But Mother!" Lee Hyukjae was on his knees, begging.
"Don't but Mother me young man! It's about time you grew out of this ridiculous phase, settled down with a wife, and started giving me grandchildren." Hyukjae's mother was a tiny woman, but fierce and utterly devoted to her family. Her son loved her for it, and ordinarily would be more than happy to do anything she wished, but in his one thing, he just couldn't.
"Mother, you know I don't like women or want children!"
"Nonsense. Everyone wants children, and you're a man. You like women. That's how it works. This notion that you're attracted to other men is just silly and you're too old to still insist it's true." Mrs. Lee wasn't so much homophobic, more incapable of believing people could be attracted to their own gender, or not want children.
Hyukjae stood up, trying to keep the anger he was beginning to feel out of his voice. "It is not nonsense Mother. I've always been attracted to men. I even had a boyfriend, remember?"
SMACK! Hyukjae clutched the cheek his mother had just struck.
"That person was not your boyfriend. Men do not have boyfriends, they have girlfriends or wives. Now, stop this and go shower and change. Since you won't find a girl, I've done it for you. Well, the matchmaker did. I've met the lovely young lady already. She'll make a wonderful wife and mother."
"But..."
"Better do as your mother says son." Hyukjae's father, who had been silent up until this point laid a hand on his son's shoulder. "Who knows? Maybe you'll find you like the girl after all." While his wife turned a moment at something she'd heard outside, Mister Lee slipped a paper into his son's hand and whispered, "Don't worry son. I've got a plan."
Hyukjae sighed, though he did feel a little lighter at his father's words. "Fine Mother. I'll meet this girl. Just don't expect too much." He turned to head upstairs.
"I expect my first grandchild next year Lee Hyukjae!"
"Dear, don't pressure the boy too much. You don't know what he'll decide to do." While his son trudged upstairs, Mister Lee tried to reason with his wife, again. He wasn't thrilled that his son was gay, but respected him as an adult who knew his own mind.
"Don't be silly. He just needs the right girl."
"When has Hyukjae ever shown any interest in women? The only person he's ever brought home was that, oh what was his name? I'm glad they didn't stay together though. Something about him didn't sit right with me."
"He was a man claiming to be dating our son. It's unnatural. That's why it didn't sit well with you."
