14: TRY

Jungkook tried to ignore the anxiety he was finding about possibly locating his mother’s killer tonight and instead tried to focus his attention on the fact he was going to meet up with Seulgi to finish their project. 

Jungkook and Seulgi had decided to meet in front of the public library.  Jungkook had arrived a bit earlier and waited outside for Seulgi to arrive.  He had to do a double take as she walked towards him in a simple white dress, a nervous smile on her face.

She was looking more lovely than usual, the dress flowing in the wind as she strolled towards him.  He almost forgot to breathe for a moment; she seemed to glow so radiantly that everything else around her paled in comparison.  It was as if seeing her out of her uniform made her into a differently completely person.  He had seen her the other time at the café, but it wasn’t just that, she seemed less tensed up than when he had seen her in class.

“Hi,” She greeted.  The sound of her voice sent butterflies down his stomach.  He swallowed some non-existent saliva as he replied with a “hi” back.  Why couldn’t he calm down?  What was wrong with him? Why did his throat suddenly feel so restricted and dry?

“Did you want to sit inside or out of one of the benches?”  He asked quickly, trying to dispel the awkward air that was beginning to rise between them.

“Let’s sit outside,” Seulgi answered, her hands pointing to the benches underneath a big oak tree.  “If you’re ok with that?” 

It was a bright sunny day and Seulgi thought it would be nice to enjoy the sunshine outside.  Her mum had injected her with the sun protection serum before she let the house.  Jungkook nodded and they walked towards the benches.  It was a peaceful spot, which meant that they could practice their presentation without any distractions.

In front of Seulgi, Jungkook felt like he didn’t have to try to hard to be the perfect student everyone else made him out to be.  She didn’t stare at him with gushy star-struck eyes like the other girls in their class.  Apart from Irene and Jimin, Jungkook knew his other classmates somehow saw him as some sort of idol when all he wanted to be was a normal student.

As they unpacked their books, Seulgi had noticed that Jungkook didn’t seem like his usual self.  The rehearsed their speech for the presentat
