Chapter 7

Never Going Back

Krystal looked at the food in her plate. She was starving, she couldn’t even think properly but for some reason, she couldn’t find the want to eat what was in front of her. Perhaps she was just tired from work. She had woken up at 4AM for a photo-shot.

Everything went smoothly, the staff was amazing and everyone went along and did their job perfectly; Jessica went to the shoot as a support/manager, making sure everything was alright and to tell her baby sister that she was going to New York for the next two weeks so she could catch up with Fashion Week and talk with some of her partners. It was a business trip, like so many others Jessica had, but this time Krystal was pretty sure she was going to take that Chinese lawyer with her.

But having Jessica away it would mean she would mean she would have a bit of free time and could do whatever she wanted. Don’t get her wrong; Jessica wasn’t a monster, on the contrary.

Before giving Krystal work she would make sure the younger was well rested and healthy, but every time she left, many magazines and directors wouldn’t call to the company, so this was like her own vacation. Maybe she would use her free time to go somewhere. Maybe Thailand. She wanted to enjoy some sun and enjoy the beach. She was exhausted. She honestly needed to rest.

“Krystal?”

Hearing her name, she looked up and couldn’t hide the sudden smile that crossed her lips. All her thoughts of vacation and stress vanished simply by the sight of the man in front of her. How he could impact her the way he did, she would never know, but she wasn’t going to question it at all.

“Sungbin-ssi! What are you doing here?”

He gave her another charming smile making her heart skip a couple of beats, not that she was going to admit it.

“I’m at my lunch break, my office is right there.”

She completely forgot she ended up coming to an area that was mostly composed of company’s offices. She would usually go there when she wanted to be alone. It was the best place because neither the annoying paparazzi nor too needy fans would think of going there to look for her.

Krystal scanned the man in front of her. He was wearing a very well tailored black suit and his hair was pulled back. Looking clean and fresh, like always. It was strange to see the older man dressed like that, but at the same time it showed her a different side of him that she couldn’t help but want to see more often.

“Oh, want to join me?”

How she asked without looking too excited or even like a little girl, she had no idea, but managed to congratulate herself in her head.

“I hope I’m not bothering.”

“Of course not!”

The part where she said “you would never bother me” stood inside her head and was probably never going to be said. She had to seem at least a little bit hard to get, even thought she was pretty sure she looked like she was 16 next to him. She was pretty sure she had the most idiotic smile in her lips and couldn’t help but slap herself mentally. She was an actress for god’s sakes; it was her profession to hide her emotions when needed. Why was she being so transparent?

“So, what brings you here?”

He started and she woke up from her thoughts and decided it was best for her to pay attention to his words than think about she was feeling every time she saw this man. He smiled when he noticed her confused expression.

“I mean, this isn’t really the place where an A-star like you would hang out. I would expect someone with your status to be in the most hit place.”

Before she could even protest his words, that didn’t please her at all, he gave her another shinning smile and continued talking.

“But then again, you aren’t like your co-stars or pears are you? You seem like even thought you are the most wanted girl in whole Korea, you still run away from the spotlight and go to places where you know you won’t get caught.”

Another pause and for some reason she couldn’t help but bite her lip and feel her cheeks burn slightly. God, how was possible to see right through her? No one could, how could he?

“You’re pretty interesting.”

“….I’m pretty normal.”

He laughed at those words and drank a sip of his beer. Krystal didn’t even noticed from where that came from, but she was probably so distracted she didn’t saw the waiter bring it to him.

“Normal? No. If you were normal you wouldn’t be this interesting. If you were normal you probably wouldn’t be adored by your sister and my father the way you are.”

He paused again and she had no idea where he was going with this, but she decided that the best thing to do was to keep quiet and listen to everything he had to say. He never spoke this much so she was going to take it all in before he decided to shut up and an awkward silence took over both.

“If you were normal, you wouldn’t make my nephew so angry that all he wants to do is scream and pull out his hair.”

For some reason that imagine alone made her want to laugh and wonder at the same time. Why did he brought Myungsoo out of nowhere? Well, it wasn’t really out of nowhere, but it still confused her.

“I doubt I have that impact on someone like Myungsoo.”

He smirked. He ignored the fact that Krystal just called his nephew, who is almost his own age, without honorifics while she still continued using them on him.  Details that he decided to forget. It would change with time, he was sure.

“Trust me, you have an impact on him. He’s a very composed man and yet, every time he’s with you he wants to break something and all he can do is talk about how annoying and…unwilling you are.”

“Are you even serious? He’s the one who-“

She stopped for two seconds, took a deep long breathe and continued.

“Your nephew is the one who decided to be completely rude, who decided that it was perfectly fine to touch my leg without me allowing it. Your nephew is the one who decided to treat me like I’m a little girl. Every time I see him I just want his whole existence to be gone.”

He laughed. He actually laughed at those words and all she could do was raise a brow. She was honestly lost and had no idea what was happening. Was she being funny? Did she say something so hilarious that all he could do was laugh? What was going on? She needed to know.

“Did I say something wrong?”

“No no…it’s just...You two are more alike than you would think.”

“I’ll take that as insult. You’ve disappointed me”

She was trying to make a joke, but as she said it, his expression changed completely.

At that moment she was pretty sure she couldn’t tell apart either Myungsoo or Sungbin. And that honestly scared her so much. She always knew the two weren’t alike in anything, but right now they seemed the same person. The same conversation that felt like she was being attacked even thought it wasn’t directly at her. Where there was a compliment but before getting there she had to be insulted. The laugh that made her want to grab her things and leave right away.

The resemblances were uncanny, and she hated every moment of it. But because of it, she couldn’t help how much the two actually looked alike. Physically people could actually say the two of them were brothers, not uncle and nephew. Even the ages were so close, just a couple of years apart, both men still in their 30’s, the same jobs, different companies, strangely similar backgrounds. It was the first time she compared the two men like this, and she hated her own thoughts.

“…Please do, because I don’t want to think highly of either of us.”

His voice was low but she could hear him perfectly. She waited for him to continue, she was sure he wasn’t going to stop there.

“…Why not?”

She probably had a huge question mark in her face. He took another sip from his beer, she could see his hand shacking as he passed it through his hair. He looked down to his lap and then to her. His smile was gone and a very unhappy expression took over his face. It wasn’t like he was looking angry, but he looked more disappointed, like he did something he shouldn’t have, better, like he was about to do something that he was going to regret greatly.

Krystal was feeling like she had to stop him from talking. She had to stop him before she heard something she wasn’t going to enjoy listen to.

“You have two men who are willing to kill each other just to be with you. Don’t give us hope.”
