Chapter 1

Simple Twist of Fate

“Come on, Sehun-ah! We will be late if you don’t get up right now” Xiumin complained, shaking the asleep friend.

Sehun growled, opening a single eye.

“It’s Saturday, Minseok. What do we have to do on Saturdays?” he inquired nervously.

Xiumin snorted, pulling his blanket away.

“Today is the big lunch at the Hwang’s. How could you forget it?” he exclaimed, pulling the curtains.

But Sehun remained in the same position.

“I don’t want to go. I am not in the mood to meet Kyungsoo’s family” he informed, pressing his face against the pillow.

Xiumin sighed tiredly, sitting beside him in the bed.

“I swear that I tried to understand why you hate his family this much. But honestly, I can’t. Do you mind in explaining?” he asked.

Sehun felt a lung in his throat. That was a secret that no one else knew, except Baekhyun and Tao. And, after all that time, he wasn’t ready to go back to the drama that this [secret] already caused to him.

“I don’t hate them is just that-“ he tried to find an excuse, but there wasn’t any.

“That…?” Xiumin provoked, raising an eyebrow.

And Sehun felt that he had to give up and stand up quickly. Doing it, his hyung smiled brightly.

“Don’t take too much on the shower. We are leaving in thirty minutes so you better be down stairs” he informed, waving his goodbye before storming out of the room.

Sehun nodded, ranking his fingers through his hair.

“Grrrrr” he greeted his teeth, entering the bathroom and slamming the door behind him.

“Apartment 3B, please” Chanyeol smiled at the porter, who nodded and grabbed the small phone.

“Your names” he asked, dialing some numbers.

“Chanyeol, Xiumin, Sehun, Tao and Lay” he replied.

Another nod came from the man, who started speaking to someone. He hung up and pressed a button, opening the two big gates.

“Have a good day” he smiled, bowing politely.

“Thank you” Xiumin did the same, while Chanyeol entered the building with his car.

He searched around a good place to park and, as soon as finding it, the five stepped out.

“I am so excited” Lay commented, clapping his hands in joy “I love Kyungsoo’s mom. She always treats us so nicely” he remembered, smiling lovingly.

“Someone is crushing the old lady” Chanyeol teased, receiving a glare from the friend.

Sehun walked in slow steps. He had his hands inside his coat’s pockets, looking down.

“Yah, man” he felt someone poking his arm and he turned to face Tao.

He seemed worried and Sehun knew why.

“I am okay, Zitao” he assured, smiling weakly.

Tao snorted, passing an arm around his neck.

“I am sure you are. I just wanted to come here and tell you that nothing is going to happen once we get inside there. We will have fun, eat like pigs and then we will leave” he assured, causing the youngest to chuckle “Am I clear?”

Sehun nodded, thanking him mentally for always being there with him.

They filled the lift and it didn’t take long for them to reach their destiny.

“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go” Lay cheered, running towards the door with the ‘3B’ written on it.

His bunch laughed, shaking their heads. The Chinese guy didn’t hesitate in pressing the bell and the noisy house got quiet.

“Huh?” Xiumin questioned lowly.

They heard the sound of the key and, suddenly, a smiley Kyungsoo appeared in front of them.

“You came!” he yelled, throwing himself at them.

They all laughed, hugging him back.

“Did you really think we would miss the opportunity of eating for free?” Chanyeol joked.

“Where is your mom?” Lay asked excitedly, ready to go in.

But something stopped him. Well, someone.

“Uncle Soo, who are them?” a small kid inquired.

The guys stared at him with furrowed eyebrows.

“Uncle?” Tao left his question out loud.

And his heart raced. Kyungsoo had only one sibling.

“He is Fany’s kid” Kyungsoo replied, grabbing the boy on his arms “Yoogeun, these are my friends. Meet Tao hyung, Lay hyung, Chanyeol hyung, Xiumin hyung, and Sehun hyung” he pointed each of them, whose smiled and waved at the five years old person.

Tao turned around with widened eyes, and Sehun seemed to have the same shocked expression.

“When did Fany come back from America?” Chanyeol questioned curiously.

Tiffany had moved to Los Angeles when she was only eighteen, to study in a Design university in there. She was born in the country, but moved at an age of three, because her mother wanted to give birth to Kyungsoo in Korea. Her name was a tribute to the famous jeweler ‘Tiffany & Co.’, where his father had bought the engagement ring he gave to her mother.

“Two days ago” Kyungsoo signaled them in “Yoogeun, go to the kitchen and call your omma, okay?” he smiled, resting the nephew on the floor.

He nodded, storming out.

“She got married?” it was Xiumin’s time of exposing his doubt.

Kyungsoo shook his head.

“Remember that boyfriend of hers in here, Choi Seunghyun?” he turned at them.

Sehun’s jaw clinched and he closed his hands in fists. Just the thought of that man made his whole body shake.

“The rich one?” Lay inquired “Yeah, we remember him.”

“One year after Fany he also had to go to America. His grandfather’s business went to him and he decided to open a branch in there. Fany got pregnant accidently and they didn’t have time to prepare the wedding. And now that Yoogeun came to the world, they think it is too late to make a ceremony” he explained.

“But” Sehun made an interruption suddenly and gulped, trying to not sound nervous “Her biggest dream is to get married” he spoke.

He couldn’t forget the day he went to play video games at the Hwang’s. Since the first time he saw Tiffany, he fell deeply for her. She had that angelical aura and he couldn’t help but sigh lovingly whenever she was around. But, when he made his decision to leave his house and spend one afternoon at Kyungsoo’s, he heard the older sister commenting about how her dress would be white, fancy and delicate when she was a bride. For years and years he desired to be that lucky man, the one who would take her to the altar.

Kyungsoo nodded, checking around.

“But her ‘husband’ is a jerk. He is too busy with his work and he doesn’t even give attention to his own son. Fany came to stay a time with us because she can’t handle the whole job without the help of Seunghyun. My mom is going to do it” he smiled in relief.

And Sehun’s hate for Seunghyun only grew. If it was him, he wouldn’t let that happen. Oh, he never would. If he had one single and small opportunity of being with Tiffany, he would let everything behind, without a shadow of doubt.

But the hate faded away as soon as a female figure appeared on the kitchen’s door. She was wearing black high-waist jeans, a grey cropped with long sleeves and white high-heels. Her once brown hair was now almost gold, in a caramel tone. It was long and straight, brighter than ever. She wasn’t a teenager anymore; she was definitely a woman. And, suddenly, all of his feelings for her came back as a meteor. Especially when she shot him a smile. Ah, that smile.

“Sehun-ah!” she exclaimed, running towards him and wrapping her arms around his neck “Long time no see, Senshine” she teased, calling him by his old nickname.

It had been a while since he heard that one. Unconsciously, a smile also filled his lips and he hugged her waist gently, caressing her back softly.

“You look stunning, Mushroom” he whispered on her ear, comforted by her vanilla perfume.

“Yah” she yelled, stepping backwards “When did you grow up this much, huh? You are way taller than me right now” she pouted, crossing her arms “How am I supposed to tease you now? You ain’t a baby anymore” she sighed dramatically.

He laughed heartily, messing her bangs.

“You should call me oppa” he winked hoyden, receiving a pat on his shoulder.

“You are still twenty, pabo, and I am twenty-five. You call me noona, as you used to” she smiled proudly, not noticing that she had hurt his poor heart.

Noona was so simple and ordinary. Everyone else called her noona, and, in that moment, Chanyeol and Xiumin where doing that while greeting her. Lay was nowhere to be seen and Tao was sad. How much he prayed that Sehun would forget that girl and now that she was back, he couldn’t help but pray harder that he would be okay.

“This is the gayest thing I have ever seen” Kyungsoo commented “The food is on the table and here we are, re-living the past. Come on, let’s eat!” he raised his fist, pulling an excited Yoogeun with him.

Tiffany laughed, turning at the four left behind. But her eyes caught Sehun in special. He was so different, so mature and so… Handsome. She furrowed her eyebrows, not understanding that kind of thought.

“Pabo” she muttered, shaking her head “If I were you I wouldn’t stay in there. Lay already found where we are hiding the dessert and I still remember of that time when he ate my birthday cake while we chatted about Taeyeon’s manly side” she pointed at them funnily, taking her leave.

Xiumin and Chanyeol followed her.

“We should join them” Tao informed, doing the same as the rest.

Sehun sighed heavily. It would be difficult seeing the woman he loves taking care of her son with someone else. But he would enjoy the fact that she was there. He had to. And maybe, just maybe, he could turn the game.

Just maybe.
