The adrenaline pulsed through my body as the traffic light turned red, and I stepped on the gas pedal, zooming my way through the intricate weaves of cars ahead of me. Honks were fired, and profanities were yelled, but they were numb to my ears as I gripped the steering wheel harder, until my knuckles were turning white. My breathing was all over the place, mostly ragged breaths in between and it was eerily quiet inside the car, except for the screech of the tire wheels and my breaths that had turned into light, hopeless sobs. Cold, wet tears begin to fall from my watery eyes as I choked back a sob and only one thing raced through my jumbled thoughts: “Please let her stay alive.”
