Distance and Time

Description

A heartwarming story of two seperated souls in search for each other's warmth in midst of the cold.

Foreword

Even as spring comes and flowers bloom,

And summer comes, making memories melt down...

Jiyong stared silently at the pile of lavishly wrapped presents under the Christmas tree.

The delicate wrapping paper ripped apart as he grabbed the presents harshly and threw them against a photograph of a young girl. No, he doesn't want a lot for Christmas. No, he doesn't want those presents under the tree. No, he doesn't even care about those presents. Why is it that no one could understand him!

The four seasons never suited me in the first place,

I'm a cold child.

Gingerly, he held up the potrait and ran his fingers through it, his eyes stung when the nolstagic memories swarmed to his sight as he glanced into what he could make up as the cresent eyes of a smiling child through his blurred vision. At the least, he could only hope that he would see them again...someday.

I've lost my focus. My eyes are frosted.

He picked up his coat and shifted over to the fireplace, swaying slowly on the rocking chair, as if he was a baby in a mother's embrace, being lulled to sleep.

It’s cold here even when I hide my hands in my pocket

It’s so cold even when I blow into my hands

My heart is so frozen that my lips get cracked

Chaerin glanced into her hand-held mirror and sighed. The streets were filled with stunning Christmas decorations and there were a few people roaming on the streets. The buildings, with warm light peeking out of their little windows, were covered in a thick blanket of snow. Christmas. It was certainly a beautiful sight to behold in the human world. It would be wonderful if she only she could feel the warmth that she used to surround and taste the food that she used to devour so hungrily. If only they would allow her to.

" Why wouldn't you allow me back to the human world again?" She once asked.

" Sorry darling, we can't allow somebody who chose death to return back to the human world again." The beautiful shinigami, Sandara replied as she tenderly brushed aside the tear that slipped out.

" But it's so cold here. I didn't choose to come to such a cold place."

Sandara sighed as she took the young lady in her arms. She teared up when she saw the dolls that Chaerin had sewn. What shook her more was that the each and every doll had a different character and name. It was almost as if they had been created to replcae the people who would have showered her with warmth if she was still alive. She strictly believed that Chaerin's death was a mistake and soon enough, right after the celebrations of Christmas were finished, she would convince her brother that it was time to let Chaerin return to the human world.

It's almost a decade, and Chaerin's room is already filled full of the dolls that she had sewn herself to boredom. From the many years she spent in this realm, she was long used to the Way of Doing, since the occupants of this realm were most definitely no longer living, and she hasn't been doing anything other than sewing dolls or clothes for the other occupants.

She rested her head on Sandara's shoulder and played with the hem of the goddess's dress. She felt the chilly wind that met her skin for every day she spent in the realm of the Dead and readjusted her tattered coat. A tear escaped and fell into her hand-held mirror.

I’m the only cold one even when I wrap my body in blankets

It’s so cold even when I’m in someone’s embrace

I try to block the hole in my heart but the wind keeps coming in
