CHAPTER 2

My Angel, My Love, My Heart

“God dammit!” Kyuhyun hissed, taking a mouthful of bourbon straight from the bottle. His head still hurt like hell and he could still hear that fricken angel song, it was frustrating to get taken down by a song.

Why did an Angel’s singing voice have to be their weakness of all things?

Kyuhyun got up onto the wooden table and laid on it, closing his eyes with a sigh trying to revel in the peace and quiet he had only to be disappointed when he felt he wasn’t alone in the room anymore, he recognised his Leader’s aura before words were spoken.

“A little birdy told me that Zhoumi and you got your asses handed to you by Sungmin and Henry.” Heechul drawled mockingly, taking a seat and watching Kyuhyun sit up, shooting daggers at him with his beady eyes.

“It wasn’t like that and you know it and when I find that little birdy, I’ll make Kai bite his monkey .” He retorted, running a hand through his chestnut brown locks.

Heechul cackled at Kyuhyun’s statement, instantly wanting to summon Hyukjae and see it happen. It was no secret that some of his men still had old feelings towards their ex-lovers, they don’t disappear when you die like many humans think. In truth, the feelings you had for said person only amplifies when you die.

“Did you do anything productive today? Kyuhyun asked the older reaper with a disinterested expression on his face.

“Does having count as productive?” Heechul asked back with a smirk.

“No and why do you keep having relations with Kangin when you don’t have feelings for him?” Kyuhyun said in a digusted tone

“Because I like seeing the distress and hurt on Leeteuk’s face when I tell him everything I do with his beloved.” Heechul simply said.

Even though they were Reapers and servants of Hell, Kyuhyun didn’t condone behaviour like that but Heechul lived up to the name and he knew how to hold a grudge. He didn’t know Heechul and Leeteuk’s backstory, only that those two had been best friends when they were human and that was all Heechul had unknowingly told him, one drunken night eons ago.

“Masters.”

Kyuhyun and Heechul looked to the side and saw their demon dogs, Kai and Kyungsoo in their human forms, bowing in submission.

“What is it?”

“The King requires your presence in the throne room, the other Reapers are being summoned as well.” Kai and Kyungsoo announced in sync and then disappeared in a puff of grey smoke.

The two Reapers shared a look before phasing to the Throne Room, Eunhyuk, Zhoumi and Kangin were already there kneeling before the King of Hell.

“You summoned us, Your Majesty?”

As Leader, Heechul had to ask the obvious question. He half-bowed to his King while Kyuhyun kneeled beside Eunhyuk, who gave him a questioning look to which he just shrugged.

The King stood up from his throne, petting his hellhounds before descending the steps. The throne room was quiet except for the cackling of the fires surrounding the edges of the room. Heechul watched his ruler, the Cheshire cat grin that appeared on his face meant that something had gone in his favour.

“Word has reached my ears that the Book of Heaven has been stolen from under the Angel’s noses. Since the book is no longer in Heaven’s possession, the treaty is practically null and void.”

Heechul inwardly swore, he could see the glee that shone through on the King’s face as he spoke.

“And what do you want us to do?” He questioned the King, who stopped in front of him.

“I want you to collect on a deal long overdue and I want you to find the book as well.”

“You want us to find Lord Choi’s reincarnation and take his soul?” Heechul asked clarifying the King’s order. He was reluctant, the only way to know for sure if the Lord has been reincarnated is an awakening and no one had felt the familiar jolt of such thing. To go looking now will be like finding a needle in a haystack.

“No more questions, Heechul. Just do as I say.” The King with finality before disappearing to his private chambers, leaving the Reapers and Hellhound together.

Heechul sighed rubbing his temples, this was not going to be an easy mission and it would be smart to assume that the Angels will be expecting something like this from them so the element of surprise is gone.

“Suho! Kris!” He called the two leaders of the Hellhounds.

The dogs morphed into their human forms and kneeled in front of Heechul.

“Yes Master?”

“I want you guys on the ground searching. Decide amongst you who will continue catching souls and who will look for the heir. Now go.” He ordered them and then turning to the Reapers.

“Anyone of you geniuses have a plan on where to start looking?”

“Since the Angels will be looking as well, let’s shadow them and see what they find.” Kyuhyun proposed, Heechul thought it was a lame idea but no one else was giving out ideas.

“Fine. You and Eunhyuk will shadow them.” He said, waving his hand, he was beginning to feel stressed.

“What?! Why am I paired up with the monkey?!” Kyuhyun cried

“Yah! As if you are any better!” Eunhyuk retorted back, offended by his comment.

“I don’t care! Just ing do it!” Heechul glared at the two of them before grabbing Kangin’s hand and leaving the room, heading to his own chambers.

Kyuhyun and Eunhyuk glared at each other as they left the throne room, shoving each other and bickering as they went. Zhoumi silently followed to keep an eye on them in case they tried to kill each other.

“Thank you for visiting Angel Café.”

Ryeowook smiled brightly as he said goodbye to the patrons leaving the café, the female patrons gave him one last longing look, blushing when he gave them a wink.

“Ryeowook.”

Ryeowook turned away from the register to face fellow Angel and employee Hakyeon. Both met in Heaven and became friends, they were happy when they found out they were assigned to the same location on Earth.

“What is it, Hakyeon?” He asked the tall Angel with a smile which faltered when he noticed the stiff expression on Hakyeon’s face and quietly followed him to the back.

They walked until they both stopped at a door with Angel runes surrounding the frame, the door led straight to Heaven, it was invisible to humans but the downside was that any supernatural being could spot one of these doors a mile away as they gave off a pulse of energy when they are used.

Hakyeon opened the door by passing his hand over the lock, it clicked and creaked as the doors opened with a shriek, revealing a white light, it’s brightness illuminated the entire back room. Ryeowook half turned to Hakyeon, his expression anxious.

“I’m not in trouble, am I?” He asked

“I don’t know but Donghae told me that Leeteuk is pissed.” Hakyeon tells him, shoving him through the Angel Portal.

Ryeowook passed through the portal, his eyes looking around at the familiar surroundings of home, his gaze landing on a stone-faced Leeteuk. He hurried over to him, knowing full well how impatient he could be, especially if he wasn’t in a good mood.

“Ryeowook, your shift at the café doesn’t start until the afternoon. Why do you insist on going earlier? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is right now?”

Ryeowook cringed, he never liked getting scolded by Leeteuk. He suffered from it a lot in his years as a novice, at least he wasn’t yelling at him but it wasn’t any better. He could see that behind the stern expression that his hyung was only looking out for him like he does every single day.

“I’m sorry hyung. It won’t happen again.” He bows along with his apology, he hears Leeteuk sigh before ruffling his hair.

“Come on, I have something to talk to you about.” Leeteuk says turning and walking away. He noticed that it was quiet behind him and realised Ryeowook wasn’t following him. He looks back to see the young Angel looking at his wrist with a dumbfounded look on his face.

“Ryeowook, what is it?”

“I don’t know hyung, I just felt a burning sensation on my wrist and then this mark appeared. What does it mean?” Ryeowook explained turning his wrist so Leeteuk can see it properly.

Leeteuk recognises the mark instantly and panic flashes across his face. He never thought he would ever see that mark in reality, he read about that mark and it didn’t bode well for Ryeowook.

“It’s a soulmate mark which means you will come across yours soon.” He lies to Ryeowook with the fakest smile he could muster.

In truth it was a soulmate mark but it only ever appears on an Angel if their soulmate is human, the Angel is given a year to find his/her soulmate and if they did find their soulmate, the Angel is turned into a human but if they don’t find their soulmate before the year is up, they lose their wings and are doomed to spend their immortal lives on Earth, never ageing or dying.

“Oh, okay, I hope mine is beautiful.” Ryeowook wonder naively with a smile.

Leeteuk only nods and they both continue the walk to the hall, Ryeowook excited at the prospect of meeting his true love and Leeteuk thinking if there was any way to break the mark or give Ryeowook more time.

Siwon listened intently to the lecturer while Shindong was slumped in his chair, sleeping and loudly snoring. Siwon wondered how the lecturer wasn’t annoyed by it considering how often Shindong falls asleep in class, he noticed that Shindong seemed to be more tired than normal but Shindong tells him he doesn’t do anything strenuous and avoids doing exercise like the plague.

He suggested going to see a doctor but Shindong always dismisses the idea and blames it on the change of weather. Siwon wished his friend would be a little more health conscious but no one changes overnight, especially Shindong.

Siwon nudged Shindong awake once the lecture was over, he yawned and stretched rubbing the sleep from his eyes before looking at the clock above the blackboard. His eyes went wide instantly and his mouth broke into a wide grin.

“Siwon-ah!!! It’s lunch time!” He says excitedly, packing away his books at lightspeed and jumping up and down like a toddler.

Siwon shook his head, the enthusiasm Shindong had for food sometimes baffled him. He held back a laugh as Shindong tripped over a chair, trying to get to the door in a hurry. The people that were still in the room couldn’t help but laugh at Shindong, knowing he was accident prone and clumsy.

“Slow down, Dong Dong. The cafeteria isn’t going to run out for food.”

Siwon helps Shindong up from the carpeted floor, both leaving the room and heading in the direction of the cafeteria. Shindong excitedly goes through the dishes he plans to eat as they enter the cafeteria. As they join the long line of people waiting for their food, Siwon suddenly feels like his head is about to explode.

The noise in the cafeteria today seemed to annoy him more than usual, he looks around the crowded cafeteria. He hears a high-pitched scream and the pain intensifies, he holds his head as an image flashes through his mind for a brief second and then the pain subsides completely. He looks at Shindong with a slightly dazed expression, Shindong looks back at his friend with concern on his chubby face.

“Are you okay, Lord Choi?”

“I’m okay. Wait, did you just call me Lord Choi?”

They both stare at each other in silence before Shindong lets out a nervous laugh scratching his head and grinning sheepishly.

“Ha, I have no idea where that came from.” He says before facing the front again.

Siwon couldn’t help but find what just happened odd, never in his eighteen years has Shindong ever referred to him as Lord Choi, it was very weird and uncomfortable. The sudden headache he got puzzled him even more and the face that flashed in front of his eyes, his heart quickened just thinking about it. He knew he would never forget that face, those soulful, brown eyes, that ivory flawless skin, those pink full lips. He honestly had never seen anything more beautiful in his entire life, he almost wished that this person was real and not a figment of his imagination.

“We have to consult with the 5 Fates.”

“Have you lost your mind, Luna? Those idiots do nothing but play games with us.”

“We have to try, they are starting to point fingers at us, Amber.”

The five immortals that were God’s bookkeepers, sat on their private terrace having a heated discussion. The oldest, Victoria rubbed her temples in frustration as Luna and Amber bickered some more, the two youngest one, Krystal and Sulli looked displeased at their behaviour.

“Will you two just shut up!” Krystal yells in a high-pitched voice, effectively shattering a window and silencing the bickering pair.

Amber and Luna just stared in shock, they have never been yelled at by Krystal before in their thousand years of living, it was scary and new for them and they were weirdly excited by it.

“Nicely done, Krystal.” Sulli says nodding in approval.

“Now I know the 5 Fates are nothing but pranksters but they can help us. We are after all neutral in this and the fact that they reside in Hell should not matter.”

Amber scoffs, the very idea of being in the same room as them made her skin crawl, the last time they had gone to the Fates for help, she ended up with an unwanted, horrible dye job and a Hell-beast that would not leave her alone, courtesy of the Fates.

“They are not that bad, Amber, Childish, yes but malicious they are not.”

“Of course, you would say that Sulli, since you are smitten with Taemin.”

Sulli gave Amber a death-filled glare, she even hissed which Amber found very freaky. Victoria nudged Sulli, telling her with her eyes to just ignore Amber’s comments.

“We are seeing the Fates and that is my final decision, if you don’t like it, too bad.” Victoria said with finality, raising her voice for effect.

Since she was the leader, Amber had to do as ordered. Even if she disagreed very strongly about it like now, she had to grind her teeth and put up with it. She learned in the centuries that they have been together, Victoria can be a very gentle soul but if you mess with her or push her buttons, it will be the last thing you ever do.

“Let’s go then.”

The five of them vanished, leaving behind shimmering pink dust where they sat previously.
