30 Days - Honesty

"Where am I?" She looked around the room, her head throbbing in pain. She didn't understand what was happening. The room was all white, if she didn't know better she would think she was in a hospital room, but this definitely wasn't, it didn't have a door. She was laying in a bed, in the center of the room, trying to comprehend this.

"You're in the in between," she looked to the end of her bed, seeing a young man there, she screamed, "Whoa, calm down I'm not going to do anything," he put up his hands to prove he wouldn't, but the screaming continued.

"How did you get in here? There is no door," she suddenly stood up, reaching out at the walls, seeing if there was a secret door.

"Like I said, you're in the in between. You're stuck between Heaven and Earth," he explained.

"Wait, I'm dead? I died?" Her eyes began to water, she remembered just leaving school, on her way home, but her headache was preventing her to think of anything past that. "I can't be dead, I-I,"

"You died suddenly actually, even you couldn't comprehend it," he sat down at the end of the bed, patting it so she'd join him, "Kyungmi, you're being given a second chance," he added.

"A second chance..." She slowly approached the bed, sitting down at the opposite end of him.

"You've been given 30 days, you get to relive the last 30 days of your life. Some use this as closure, while some choose it to change their fate, if you change the course of something, you could possibly live," he revealed, "But I hope you know, there are consequences," he concluded.

"What's your name?" Her voice was soft, this whole issue was making her feel uneasy.

"My name is Kim Sunggyu, but you don't need to worry. I'm your guide," he smiled, "I'll see you there," he got up, walking towards her. He placed his hand over her eyes, pushing her back but she didn't hit the bed.

She was in bed, she was in her room, the one she grew up in. She was tangled in her baby blue blanket, like usual, she couldn't help but believe the in between was just a nightmare. A cruel one. It was 7:00, meaning she had to be up to get ready for school now, she took her time getting ready. Skipping her usual make up routine and went with one of just some eyeliner. She had a rough night, trying to forget about Sunggyu, the fact she had "died" but she was thinking maybe it was because she ate those unhealthy snacks before going to bed.

"You look tired, did you not get a lot of sleep?" One of her close friends, Miyoung, asked as they walked to their classes, stopping at the cabinets outside that held their indoor shoes.

"No, I had a horrible dream, I had a dream that I died," she sighed, her friend looked at her bewildered, "I'll tell you later," noticing a crowd was forming around them, and she was sure she didn't want people knowing she had died in a dream.

"Good morning, Kyungmi," she looked up to see one of the newest students who arrived over a month ago, he was in her class. She thought he was cute, but never really talked to him in class, his shoes were next to hers, so they'd often greet each other if they came around the same time.

"Good morning, Jaebum," she smiled, she looked down, changing out of her sneakers and into her school slippers. She quickly went inside the class, finding her seat next to Miyoung's.

"So exactly what happened?" Miyoung asked as their math teacher was talking about the importance of this formula, Kyungmi couldn't help but feel she had learned this earlier, but her mind was still foggy, so she just brushed it off.

"I was in a room," she whispered, looking up from her textbook, "It was all white and this guy comes in out of nowhere and told me I was in the in between, that she was stuck between Heaven and Earth, she had died too suddenly for her to come to closure."

"Was the guy cute?" Miyoung shrugged.

"Seriously Miyoung? But he was handsome, but he doesn't even exist," she laughed.

"Anyway he tells me that I've been given 30 days, 30 days to relive my life. He even said that if I worked it out right I could live," her voice became a whisper. She continued to watch the board, she was now sure she had been taught this, "Miyoung, today's June 1st, right?"

Miyoung's face twisted in confusion, "No, it's the 1st of May. You seriously are tripping out because of the dream," she laughed. But for some reason she couldn't help but think maybe her dream wasn't a dream. She remembered, yesterday that she had let Jaebum borrow a pencil, she pulled out her pencil case, finding the blue mechanical pencil still there.

"Teacher," she raised her hand, the teacher asked her what was wrong, "What's today's date?"

"It's May 1st, Kyungmi, please don't become too distracted okay?" But Kyunmi felt sick to her stomach, she stood up, but she did it a little too soon. It resulted in her eyes rolling back, and her passing out.

"She'll be fine, don't worry," she heard a voice, she was in the infirmary, looking up at the wall, the nurse had placed the white curtains around, to avoid any unwanted stares.

"Okay, I'll be going then," she heard Miyoung, "Come on, Jaebum," Her eyes widen, Jaebum was here.

"Please make sure you take good care of her," he heard him whisper before walking out the door, she wanted to call out to him.

"You're awake aren't you?" The nurse questioned her.

"Yeah," she croaked.

"Look, I want you to not freak out okay, just stay calm," the nurse pulled back the curtain, she didn't freak out.

She felt a lump in before she finally cried out, tears streaming down her face. Who she saw in front of her was Kim Sunggyu, he was the nurse, "It's true then, last night wasn't a dream?" She sobbed, "I'm dead. I died? What happens to my mom and dad? I'm their only child, I didn't tell them I loved them before I left the house that morning," she mumbled.

"You're not dead, you're alive," he insisted, "But you will be if you don't figure out what you want by the end of the 30 days."

"I have a choice?"

"Everyone has a choice, what you do with it is up to you," he patted her head.

"What do you think?"

"If you should live? I believe if you have a passion for life, go for it, you want to change the world, do it. If that means conquering death, you could make it out alive. Because in the end what matters isn't what someone has planned for you, it's what your heart believes you can do."

"Well, Kim Sunngyu. My heart is set on one thing, living," she announced, wiping her eyes.
