Amber’s POV

What if she doesn’t like it? What if she kills me because she hated it? I’m too young to die…

These were just some of the million thoughts in my mind right now. Well, too late now. Before I know it, I was already parked in front of her house. I got out my car and closed the car door with my left hand which was shaking and held the bouquet of flowers with my right. I walked over to her front door and checked my watch. Oh just great, I’m six minutes late. I rung the doorbell and the door immediately swung open.

“You’re late.”

If looks could kill, I would’ve probably been dead already. I wiped the little bit of sweat that formed on my forehead. Wait, I’m sweating?! Since when was I sweating?!

“I-I’m sorry. It’s just that I-I stopped by the flower shop to get you these.” I gave her the flowers while giving her my best smile, hoping that it would warm up the cold atmosphere which was making me even more nervous.

“Whatever.”

She walked back inside and placed the flowers on the coffee table. Then, she walked back out, locked the door, and walked past me heading to the car. I ran ahead of her and opened the passenger the door like the gentlewoman that I am. She got in but didn’t forget to give me a glare while doing so. I closed the door softly and walked around the car to the other side.

You can do this Amber. Relax. I said to myself hoping that it would encourage me and help me calm down.

We’ve been dating for four months now. Honestly, I’m still surprised that she accepted my confession. She could’ve had anybody she wanted, but she chose me. I won’t lie, it hasn’t been easy having the ice princess as your girlfriend. But I loved every second of it. Even the scary glares sent my way, the unexpected mood swings, and the painful punches and kicks; it made me love her more every day.

She has a soft side too you know. Like that one time when I got a really bad fever, she came over to my house took care of me for the whole day. Or that time when I sprained my ankle during basketball practice. I was forced to sit out of the state championship which bummed me out, but she bought me my favorite ice cream and sat next to me at the game even though I knew she wasn’t interested in basketball. People always tell me that I don’t deserve to be with her and they are absolutely right.

I got in the car and turned the engine on. I snuck a quick glance at her and I could tell that she was bored. I reached over, turned the radio on, and started driving.

‘So, where are we going?” She asked me, and I could sense a little bit of excitement in her voice.

“It’s a surprise.” I tell her. And out of my peripheral vision, I saw a small smile tugging at her lips.

15 minutes later

I got out of the car and walked over to the passenger door to open it for her. She got out and as soon as she saw where we were, she shot me a look that I really couldn’t decipher.

“Really Am? The zoo? Out of all the places, you chose the zoo?” She said monotonously.

I looked down at the ground and started kicking the little pebbles on the sidewalk. I can’t even look at her because I’m scared I’m gonna see her disappointed expression. I should’ve known she wouldn’t like it.

“YES! I haven’t been here in forever! How did you know that I love the zoo?” I looked up and saw her smiling brightly and jumping up and down. She’s too cute.

“Uh…of course I knew that. Aren’t I the best girlfriend ever?” I said with a smirk on my face.

“Don’t push it.” She said while she gave me her scariest glare yet.

‘S-s-sorry princess.” I rubbed the back of my neck nervously.

She grabbed my arm and pulled me to the ticket booth. After buying the tickets, she immediately pulled me to the giraffe section. She watched all of the different giraffes walking around and eating the leaves off the trees with awe. Then, we decided to head over to other sections in the zoo. While we were walking, I mustered up every little bit of courage I had and grabbed her hand. I intertwined our fingers and I could feel the little tingles everywhere in my body. I looked at her and I could see the red blush on her cheeks.

 After going to the tigers, lions, snakes, monkeys, birds, and bears sections, we decided that we would go to one more before going home.

“So where do you wanna go now princess?” I asked her while looking at our still intertwined hands.

“I wanna go….” She whispered the last part so I couldn’t hear her.

“Huh? I didn’t hear you.”

“I said I wanna go see the llamas.” She looked down to hide the blush on her face immediately after she told me. Even though she said it really quietly, I still caught what she said.

“Hahaha you wanna go see my family? Okay let’s go!” She let out a laugh at what I said. Her laugh sounds so heavenly that if I were to die, I would die in peace. Okay, that sounded a little bit creepy.

We walked over to the llama section and I could see her smiling when we got there. We got to pet the llamas and feed them. It was nice to play with them, but it was nicer to see my princess smiling and to know that she was happy.

“They’re so cute!” She said to me while feeding one of them.

“But I’m cuter right?” I said while giving her my signature grin.

“Hahaha yeah okay. In your dreams!”

“Hey!” I exclaimed feigning hurt.

“You dork, I was just kidding.”

“I know.” I stuck my tongue out at her and ran away. But somehow, she caught up to me and started throwing punches at me. I managed to grab her wrists and I pulled her into a hug. She smells so good. We stayed in the position for about five minutes before she pulled away. I immediately missed her warmth.

“I’m hungry.” She said with a cute pout on her face.

“Okay princess, let’s go.”

I grabbed her hand and we both headed to the little café that the zoo had. After getting our food, we decided to sit outside since it was dark and the stars were shining brightly. It was beautiful.

“Hey Am.” Hearing her voice made me look up from my plate of spaghetti and meatballs.

“Yeah? Do you want me to get you something else? How about mango juice? Or some wat-“

“No, I don’t need anything. I just want you to listen to what I’m about to say because it’s really important to me.”

“Sure.” I gave her a soft smile and nodded my head to let her know that I’m listening.

“I just want to say thank you for everything. Thank you for everything that you’ve done for me. Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for being the best girlfriend period. I know that I’m the farthest thing from the best girlfriend, I’m probably even the worst girlfriend out there. But that didn’t stop you from taking care of me and most importantly, making me feel loved. People always say that you don’t deserve to be with me, but really, it’s the other way around. I don’t deserve to be with you. I’m always a to you and I’m really sorry Am. I’m just not used to somebody loving me so much.”

I hear her choke out a sob and I could see tears running down her cheeks. I stood up and pulled my chair over so that I would be sitting right next to her. I grab her hand and give it a little kiss. She looks at me with teary eyes, then I reached over and wiped her tears away with my thumbs.

“Now it’s your turn to listen to me. Don’t ever call yourself a cause’ you’re not. You’re the sweetest, nicest, smartest, most talented, and most beautiful girl that I have ever met. I would go on about how perfect you are, but that would probably take months. Yeah, you can be a little cold and violent at times, but you know what? That’s the thing that I love the most about you. You’re perfect to me Krys, and don’t you ever forget that.”

I pull her into a side hug because of the position we’re in right now. It was a little uncomfortable but I didn’t mind at all.

“I love you stupid.” She told me and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

“I love you too Krys. I love you to the zoo and back.”
