I Fell In Love With A Machine!

    "Tao, I'm back."

Everything I so desperately wanted to forget came rushing back like an unforgiving avalanche.

    “Abort! Abort!”

The loud alarm sounded and everyone was scrambling around on the platform. I had tucked myself in the corner, shut my eyes and wrapped my arms around me. “Zitao!” I didn’t want open my eyes. I couldn’t open my eyes. I felt fear swallow me whole as I felt our vessel rumble with malfunction.

    “Tao!”

There was a loud crash. I felt my body fly through the air for a split second and that was the last thing I could remember besides a splitting headache.

I felt cold and wet but my body did not respond, not my legs, arms or even my eyes. A faraway voice could be heard, called out to me but it was in languages I could not understand so I did not desire to answer. Before losing consciousness once more, I left my body being lifted off the hard, cold floor.

I awakened in a room that was completely unfamiliar. White walls, random objects around the room and a big white plush device I was lying on. I turn my gaze to a head of gold. I wonder how to get your hair that color? I sit up, slide off the comfy plush object and go around the person so get a better look. I crouched down in front of the person to see a male. His thick brows were furrowed and his mouth was slightly open. He’s probably hibernating. I lay my face on the object next to his and take in his distinguishing features.

Golden straight hair, thick furrowed brows, long eyelashes, a sharp straight nose, small lips, a firm strong jaw line. I found him quite beautiful despite the injury on his forehead and the bruising along his jawline. I wondered if all life on this planet was this beautiful as I reached a hand to gently brush a stray hair off of his face when a noise from the other room had startled me.

I quickly ran for the exit and when I pushed the door, it didn’t budge. I’m trapped! In the corner of my eye I notice a small knob of some sort. I quickly grabbed it and a clicking sound rang through the silence of the small room. I turn my head slowly to see the hibernating man still in slumber. I exhaled and then pushed at the door once more, but again no avail. A rare pull? I tried pulling the door and to my success, it had opened. I quickly ran out of the small chamber and ran to the nearest enclosed space, but not before looking back and wondering if it was safe to leave the golden haired man there by himself.

My question was answered when another light haired male ran up into the golden man’s house some time later, when light was casting over the land. I quickly climbed onto a top of a chamber and watched them through a glass portal. "Kris! Wake up! Please wake up!" The smaller man shook the golden haired man frantically and I couldn’t help but feel like I should banish the smaller away. Did he not understand that the other was hibernating? Is he an enemy?  I watched the golden haired man’s eyes open while the smaller man hovered over him. Should I go save him? I should protect him? He did save my life.

"What happened?" The golden haired man spoke words I did not understand but I remembered that voice from a when I was unable to move my body. I watched him try to sit up, only to be knocked down once again by the smaller boy. I readied my position to strike, only to see the taller comforting him. Ah, he must be a companion, I see. I relaxed my position and watched in wonder as they interacted.

I watched as the boy cradled the golden haired man's face in his hands, his thumbs moving gently along the other's skin. "Your face is all scratched up again." The smaller boy seemed to mumble while looking at the other boy with what seemed to be like... affection. "I'm fine." I watched the smaller male move away and the taller move so that his back rested against some sort of square piece of furniture. I croutched forward as I watched the small light-haired boy treat the taller one's wounds then the taller lean in to press his lips against the smaller boy's forehead.

A cold chill ran through my body as I quickly looked away. What was that? I ran my hand across my chest then shook off the feeling. It was probably nothing... I stood up and turned my back to the space, only to look back once before I departed. The golden haired man was looking out his entrance, a hand in his hair while his facial expression was... lost. I turned back around and sat on the damp platform, crossing my legs and staring at the two boys in the small space, especially at the man with the golden hair....

I followed the two boys on their journey. Both walking down the road with simular outfits as muliple other surrounding beings. Was this the uniform of these people? Do they run under a dictatorship? Suddenly, the golden haired man removed his pack and retrieved a small colored cube shaped device. He presented it to the smaller being and his wide eyes shone with adoration. Soon, his hands moved swiftly across the cube, rearranging the colors and I couldn't help but to stare in fasination. I wonder what the purpose of that device is? Not even 3 meters later, all the colors on the cube were neatly organized, a solid color dominating each side.

"Done." The small one announced and I watched the golden haired man smile and wrap his arm around the small boys shoulders. Another cold chill ran through my body, just as the time before. Why does my body keep reacting this way? Is he responsible? By the time I had looked up, the two boys were entering a large building. I guess I could wait until the golden haired man leaves the building....

I waited for what seemed like forever. The light was retreating from the land and I had still yet to find any place I could use for shelter. I turned away but looked back before I left. I'll be back, I promised then took off. I retraced my steps from earlier on, back to the golden man's chamber. I figured that it would be a good area to take shelter since it was close to the boy. I had found a dark ally way, and a bunch of flimsy squared material that seemed sturdy enough to keep the rain away. I proceeded to build somewhat of a fortress of the next few hours and before I knew it, darkness had dominated the land. I wonder if the boy had returned to his chamber.... I left my shelter and leaped up to where the boy's chamber was. It was dark inside and I could not hear any noise from the inside. Possibly still in that building? I ran the distance as fast as I could and when I had arrived, I had found him, but only in a condition that I did not expect.

He lied on the floor, motionless. I quickly made my way over to him and examined his body. I let my fingers run gently over the splotches of that sickly purple that colored his pale skin and the multiple cuts on his face. Who could have done such a horrible thing? I cradled his face gently in between my hands and I felt him stir slightly. I released him, thinking that I was intruding his personal space until he looked so distressed. I leaned forward and cupped his cheek with one hand, trying to be as gentle as possible. He stirred once more and I leaned away.

"Don't leave me." I tilted my head in confusion, not knowing what language he was speaking. Before I could question it further, he stirred again and groaned as he opened his eyes. I looked down at him and waited for him to see if he needed my assistance. "Did you save me?" What? I can't understand you. He spoke more words in what I believed were different languages but none of them sounded familiar so I just continued to watch him and see what he would do. When our eyes made contact however, something just... happened.

It's so hard to put into words but it was like something that had been missing had suddenly snapped into place. It had taken me by such surprised, all the wind had been knocked out of my lungs. A sharp intake of breath caused me to look over to the golden haired boy. He looked like he was in a great deal of pain, his face scrunched slightly in discomfort. I quickly moved closer to him, assisting him in standing up then taking one of his arms and placing it over my shoulders. I moved my free arm around his waist to help support his weight and I let him lead me back to his chamber. Walking back, he was quite besides the occasional direction but little by little, he would lean a little more against me, granting me access to help him. It made me happy that he depended on me though I was not completely sure why.

Once we had reached his chamber, I had helped him lie down onto his large plush piece of furniture. "Thank you." He lowered his head towards me and I was confused as to what he was doing or even saying. I wasn't sure what to do so I decided to stay and look after him for a bit. I knelt down onto my knees and resting my hands on my thighs, looking up at him for further instruction. "Are you planning on staying?" I don't know what to do... he looks so hurt. Please, let me help you. I watched as he struggled to get up, but before I could assist, he lied back down, pain etched in his expression. "Can you get me some ice please?" I tilted my head in confusion. He must have been asking for something but I didn't know what. "Ice. It's small, cubed and cold." Hm... I should try and look for what he is asking for. I stood up and walked over to the closest room. I looked through all the compartments I could find until I stumbled upon a hallow object with a handle. It's surface was shiny and metallic. Maybe this will make him happy.

When I returned with the object however, he shook his head. "Ice." He repeated the word he had said earlier. I looked at the item I had in my hand then walked back into the room I had entered. This time, I searched all the pull out compartments in the room. The new item, another handle but this time the top was flat and squared. I brought it to him, hoping this was the right item he required. Sadly, it was not as the boy shook his head again. He then pointed to a black pack sitting in the corner of the room. I placed the device in my pocket and retrieved the pack for him then resumed the sitting position I had once before. I watched as he reached into his pack and pulled out a book and stick of some sort. He slipped through the book and used the stick to draw something onto the page. Once he revealed his drawing to me, I instantly realized what he had been asking for since I had seen the item in searching the room. I quickly made my way back into the room and grabbed the item on top of the surface.

When I had returned, he laughed slightly but shook his head. I felt a sharp prick to my heart as I felt disappointment wash over me. I just wanted to help. I looked up and he moved his hand in a calling motion. I approached him and he started to draw once again, this time, a huge rectangle with two compartments stood present, with an arrow pointing at the top compartment. I nodded my head, understanding what he wanted then moved back into the room. I quickly moved to the big rectangular storage compartment and opened the top door. In inside was very cold and only contained a few items, I grabbed the small tray with crystal cubes inside and brought it back to the boy. His look seemed somewhat satisfied so I continued to approach him and placed the tray on his back. I resumed my sitting position by him as I watched his arms fold underneath his head. He shut his eyes for a mere moment and I could see his body relaxing. The cold crystal cubes must have healing powers.

He opened his eyes and stared at me for a moment then the corners of his lips turned upwards into a smile. Before I could mimic his expression, a loud ringing filled the room. I quickly looked around to find the source and my eyes landed on the door a few feet away. Some sort of alarm? I look back at him, point to the door and tilt my head in confusion. What is that alarm? He points his finger towards the door and I get up slowly. He must want me to retrieve it for him. I enter the room and see its minimal furniture. Two small brown compartments on each side of a big plush-looking box, a seeing portal on the left while a big brown chest on the right. The alarm was on the edge of the plush box, so I gently grabbed it, careful not to break it, and brought it back to him. Once handed back to him, I moved back to my spot on the floor and watch him talk into the small device.

I watch multiple expressions cross his features then he turns to me briefly. His eyes focused on mine for what seemed like a long time before I tilted my head, somewhat flustered that I couldn't read his eyes. He moved his hand and I followed it, silently wondering what he would do next. His hand held out the small device and I took it gently. I inspected it in, turning it around a few times. Where did the sound go? You can communicate with this small device? I poked at it but nothing happened, so I returned it to him. He took it and placed it into his bag then turned his attention back at me. We shared another moment then his eyes shifted somewhere else while my eyes remained on his delicate features. Who is he? Why am I even here? I'm letting myself get dist- His eyes suddenly turned dark, as if negativity had gripped at him. His body became tense as well. My body subconsciously flinched, unused to such darkness. His attention turned back to me and I inched closer to him. Don't let the darkness take the light from your eyes. He seemed to sense my concern, as his lip tilted upwards and his large hand ran through my hair. His hand felt so warm, and all my concern seemed to fade. I closed my eyes, wanting to let myself soak in the warmth.

When I opened my eyes, the golden haired boy was sleeping peacefully. I sat there, watching him until the dark sky lit with color. His hand had left me long ago but his warmth had not ceased. This feeling... what is it? I looked to through the glass portal, seeing the sun kissing the sky, blessing this planet with warmth and bright colors but cursing me with less time. Time... it seems so important but why? Why am I here? What is my purpose? Is it to be with him? I looked back to the golden haired boy and moved closer slightly. My heart pounded roughly as I moved trembling fingers closer to the boy. I gently let my fingertips glide against his soft golden strands. You're keeping me here. I can't leave now. I stood up, my decision made. I left the boys side again, struggled with that horrible locking device for a while and once I got it open, I left the chamber. I returned to the shelter I had made hours ago and despite the roughness and uncomfortable conditions it gave me, it made due. I lied against the wall, hidden from sight and closed my eyes. I don't know who I am or where I'm from but I know I have a purpose here. Hopefully, the golden haired boy can assist me. Only time will tell.... if I have enough that is...
