Empty Tears

Description

How does it feel when you lose someone who means the world to you?

Foreword

It has been a week. A week since Baekhyun passed away.

Sehun spent all his time inside his bedroom; under his blankets to be specific. He has been crying his eyes out. Bawling and sobbing loudly.

He has to go. He has to go to Baekhyun's burial today.

He hastily pulled off his blankets and scanned his room. It was still and silent, but it looked like nothing happened. The blue wallpapers still expressed happiness. His desk was still full of Baekhyun's photos. He stared at the pictures; and at that boy that suppresses a smile on every picture.

“I'll never see that precious smile again...” Sehun thought as he stood up. Soon, there were tears trickling down his cheeks. He wiped them off and racked his closet for a black shirt and jeans.

He pulled out a plain, black shirt and a pair of jeans. He took everything he needed and entered the showers.

He stripped off his clothes and stepped under the shower head. He turned the knob on and cold, morning water ran down his body. He closed his eyes and thought about positive things. He thought about the good times he had with Baekhyun, but that made him feel worse. He missed Baekhyun. It has been only a week and he already missed Baekhyun.

It would be better if Baekhyun was gone for ONLY A WEEK.

But the truth here is, he will never come back. NEVER.

“Sehun-ah, what will you do if one day, you'll find out that I'm gone?”

The question Baekhyun had asked him a couple of days ago was stuck in his head. Baekhyun's death day was planned. He has cancer. It was all prepared. Baekhyun was bound to die last week.

Memories flooded Sehun's mind.

The day they went to the beach.

The day they worked in Sehun's dad's shop.

The day before that dreadful day, where they watched the sunset together; Baekhyun bidding him good bye frequently.

Sehun cried under the shower. And that made him worse.

He remembered the day that they took a shower in the rain. Well, fake rain since the “rain” came from the hose at the Oh's garden. Their kiss in the rain.

“Baekhyun-ah, I promised you that I'll kiss you under the rain. Not a fake rain. I want to kiss you under the real rain. Why'd you left me, Baekhyun-ah? I love you...” Sehun said, barely above a whisper. Tears won't stop flowing down his cheeks and he let them be. He turned the shower off as he sat on the bathroom's floor.

“Baekhyun-ah, you're causing me too much pain...”

“Baekhyun-ah, I know it's impossible but please come back... you are the only reason to live... Baekhyun-ah,” Sehun whispered into the wind in between violent sobs. He tried to stop crying but the mere thought that he will go and see the coffin where Baekhyun is lying made him cry. It made him want to die.

There were knocks on his door, and he heard the knob twist. Soon, he heard his brother's voice.

“Sehun, we need to go.” Tao said as a few footsteps approached the bathroom. The doorknob twitched and Tao came in after.

“Sehun, Baekhyun won't be happy seeing you in this state.” Tao said as he grabbed a towel in the rack. “Get dressed. We're going to be late for Baekhyun's...”

Tao trailed off. He hesitated if he should say that they're going to be late for his brother's boyfriend's burial ceremony.

Sehun looked up at Tao. His eyes were red from crying, and his cheeks were puffy. Tao's forehead were creased. He never thought that his cheerful brother, Sehun, will come at this stage. He never thought that Sehun will come to this stage; that his brother will cry and bawl his eyes out.

“Sehun, get dressed. Come on,” Sehun looked up again and nodded. He dried himself off and dressed himself. Sehun walked out of his bathroom and saw Tao sitting on his bed.

“Let's go?” Tao asked as he stood up. Sehun nodded and opened the room. He heaved a sigh. “Are you okay?”

“Yes,” Sehun whispered, as silent as ever. Tao walked out of his brother's room, Sehun trailing behind him.

Sehun was blinded by the light outside his room. For the past week, he had been staying in the dark. He never stayed in the light for long. He haven't eaten yet!

“Sehun! Grab a few bites,” their mother said as she offered a burger at Sehun. The latter just shook his head.

“No, I'm not hungry.” Sehun said as he excused himself and hopped in the car and made himself comfortable - if comfortable means twitching, shifting from left to right, and a fast heartbeat.

“How did you convince him to get out of his room?” Tao looked at his mother.

“I don't know. I just told him to get dressed,” Tao shrugged. He doesn't know how he had convinced his brother to come out either.

“Oh. Come on, we're going to be late.” Mrs. Oh said. Tao nodded and made his way out of the house, his mother locking the door after exiting.

They entered the car and soon enough, they were on the cemetery, with a bunch of other people wearing black or white clothes.

Sehun got out of the car last. He wasn't ready for this. He wasn't even planning to go. He doesn't want to see Baekhyun in a coffin. He doesn't want to see Baekhyun in a coffin, to confirm that he surely was dead.

“Are you ready?” Tao asked Sehun, concern evident in his voice. Sehun was on the verge of tears.

“Yes,” Sehun said, his voice cracked. The truth was, he wasn't.

“You okay?” Tao asked again. He wrapped his hand around Sehun's shoulder as the latter just nodded. A tear ran across his cheek and he quickly wiped it away.

They approached the place where the people were. They sat on a chair at the back, but Mrs. Byun saw Sehun and pulled him.

“Excuse me, may I borrow Sehun for a while?” Mrs. Byun asked Tao. The latter just nodded and soon enough, Sehun was in front of the coffin with Mrs. Byun.

He saw the white cloth or something like that inside. He didn't dare and peek but Mrs. Byun handed him Baekhyun's phone.

“Before he left, he gave me this... h-he said... I should g-give it to you.” Mrs. Byun said in between sobs. “Go on, look at him.”

Sehun nodded after taking the phone. He squzzed the phone lightly, imagining that it was Baekhyun's hand.

A few more inches and he saw Baekhyun's pale yet angelic face. He saw his plump yet pale lips.

“Baekhyun-ah,” he whispered, tears trickling down his cheeks. “Why did you left me?”

“Baekhyun-ah,” he said, continuously.

There, in that brown coffin... is Baekhyun's cold, dead body.

In that brown coffin, is Baekhyun. He's trapped in there. He is trapped in there forever.
