Side note------------From angelie23's comment, I was told this story reminded her of 'In Time'. I have never heard of this movie before, so decided to wikipedia out of curiosity. What I found were some uncanny similarities between the movie and my story-- right down to the "timekeeper" title (although they have slightly different roles).
I just thought I'd point it out here in case people think this story is based on the movie, because it definitely is not. I won't let this knowledge influence me and will continue the fic how I planned it originally!

Foreword
This fic is a result of an idea I had to write down before I forget. Its origin was very weird, I was just waiting for my food to heat up in the microwave when, as they say, inspiration struck.
Like my other fics, this will be subscriber-locked after it is completed, no special reason other than feeling like it (+ avoid plagarism) xD

Once upon a time, they used to say that sadness can't kill you.
But now, it can.
The world has evolved into a place where money isn't considered important enough anymore.
It has been replaced with a priceless item.
Time.
People are now born with a row of nine very small digits engraved into the outer side of their ear-- two digits for year, the next three for days, two for hours, and finally two for minutes.
These numbers correspond to the time the individual has left to live.
However, the individual isn't granted the ability to see how much time they have left themselves.
