The First Time
Description
The first time she meets him he’s Wu Yifan she’s a new student in a new country and she doesn’t know which stop to get off at. So Yifan helps her, and he picks up the pencil she’s been nervously spinning around her thumb when she messes up and drops it and he smiles something wonderful and comforting and she doesn’t know if it’s her nerves or his grin but her knees buckle and her stomach flutters.
The second time she meets him he’s Kris, and he shrugs off her wave to instead lean towards the girl next to him who whispers something in his ear and they both laugh as they send looks at her that make her stomach twist.

Foreword
“Why did you introduce yourself as Yifan if he doesn’t even exist?” she asks, her words bitter and hurting.
It was years ago that he did that, for the only time, and he’s definitely hung over, but his eyes flash with knowledge. “You were interesting,” Kris responds with a shrug. “You were so…innocent.”
“Is that what I was? Before I met you is that who I used to be?” she retaliates, wanting nothing more than to grab Yifan’s arms and wrap them around herself.
“I’d never seen someone so…innocent. The area I grew up in, the high school we went to. I’d never seen a girl like you,” Kris continues as if she hadn’t said a word. “I wanted to help you.”
“Well you shouldn’t have.”
