Jessica Jung
A rather cold and distant person even though she is a doctor she often takes decisions not so well accepted regarding the treatment of her patients, who most oftenly are the most difficult cases. Which usually leads to an open war against the hostpital director. Tiffany Hwang who is also Jessica's best and childhood friend. Rumor has it that both of them had a thing together but no one knows for sure. Even though she is unorthodox regarding the diagnosing and treatment of her patients no one disagrees that Jessica is probably one of the best medical minds in Korean at least in this day and age. Some say she's the devil when it comes to teaching newbies...well at least most of them always gave up and left...crying.
Im Yoona
A girl with a cheerful personality she always has a smile and some good warm words for everyone.
The newbie of the hospital. Fresh out of Med School and her first place for internship was this very hospital. Yoona is a rather hardworking character who is always eager for medical knowledge. She is a rather quiet and peaceful person. Her family has worked hard for Yoona to be where she is hence why she can't lose this internship.
What she didn't know is that...Jessica was there.
Tiffany Hwang
She's the hospital's director. Being regarded as an high level surgeon, the position was given to her by the board after 3 years of hardwork.She's always complimented by the fact that she is so young and already occupies such a defining and serious position. She's the best and childhood friend of Jessica Jung.With whom she mostly has..."war". Often regarding the lack of respect and the unorthodox ideas of Jessica. She could just send her off, but she would be sending off her best doctor.
Kwon Yuri
The hospital's best Surgeon specializing in Neurosurgery and the hospital's most epic prankster. Rumor says she even managed to play with the corpses in the morgue for her pranks.
Let's just hope the families don't know. Even though she should be a serious person being where she is, Kwon Yuri is actually the hospital's most childish person. She often plays pranks on Tiffany who usually puts up with her.
She once did try it with Jessica but she says the glare almost gave her a cerebral embolism. Yuri also becomes interested and later fascinated by Yoona.
Kim Taeyeon
Chief of the Emergency Department she spends most of her times working. When not working she's usually and most often spying on the women's lockers or reading some magazine...with women on it. Truth is...she's a byuntae and she knows it.
Although she is a ert, she's a wise and caring person. She's a good leader and the staff likes her very much. She's also very protective over the newbies. Which usually gets her "war" with Jessica.
Choi Sooyoung
A rather easy going character she most usually is in her office. Sooyoung is a Nutritionist/Psychologist.
She's a good at advice character who helps not only her patients but her colleagues as well. Most oftenly Jessica who has the habit of sneaking into her office to take a nap or just have random conversations. Nobody in the world has seen a nutritionist eat as she does...earning her the nickname of "Shikshin" and the love of the cafeteria ladies.
Seo Joo-Hyun (Seohyun)
Seohyun a short of her own name she has gained while working at the hospital.
She's a relatively young doctor but is already very recognized in the oncology area.
She takes life seriously and perhaps a bit too seriously. She is very liked by everyone and her hard work for the past 2 years she's been in the hospital earned her the seat of Chief of the Oncology Department.
A position she occupies with honor and respect. Seohyun is mostly seen telling other people to eat healthily or is stuck somewhere reading a book even so, she's the only person know to be able to stop a argument between Jessica and Tiffany. No one knows how she does it, but she does.
Lee Sunkyu (Sunny)
She's an Advanced Paramedic.
Prefering being called Sunny over her hate for her own name. She's a paramedic in the local fire department. She's usually seen at the hospital when not working and when working since she's the best friend of the Chief of Emergency Kim Taeyeon.
She's a rather bubbly and happy character even though she works in an emergency and life threatning situation all the time. When working Sunny has an iron will of not letting anyone die. Which is also something that has never happened to her ever since she got the job. She works with another girl on her shift. Kim Hyoyeon.
Kim Hyoyeon
An Advanced Paramedic and partner of Sunny, she's also the distant cousin of Kim Taeyeon.
Med School dropout due to her family's lack of money, Hyoyeon as always wanted to work in this field and since she could not become "the" doctor she choose this.
She's a rather silent character who does not speak much but is also a very knowledgeable person specially in the fields of "love".

Another busy morning in this hospital in one of the world's most busiest cities. Seoul.
Like any other city and any other hospital here there is not time for stoping. Lifes hang in the balance and there is no time to play.
Im Yoona is a student just fresh out of Med School and has gotten an internship in this hospital. She woke up excited today. She would be having a meeting with one of the countries most recognized young doctors. Tiffany Hwang who is also the Director of the hospital. Also there is one other character that works at this hospital that Yoona would like to see at least. Jessica Jung. "The Newbie Crusher" as she has become known for destroying carreers, personalities and egos.
Yoona walked inside the marble busy lobby. At first you wouldn't say this was an hospital, it was so...unexpectedly luxurious and modern. Everything seemed to be state of the art. Yoona suddenly reminisced all the things she had to do to get this internship.
She couldn't quit on it. She was happy she got it. An intership here would look the best on a resumé. She looked to the sides and spotted the reception, information booth, she walked and looked at the girl behind the counter who brightly smiled at her.
-"Hello" Yoona said.
-"Hello, can I help you?" The girl said.
-"Yes, I'm here to see Ms. Tiffany" Yoona said.
-"Oh, yes, you're the new intern right?" The girl said.
-"Yes" Yoona shyly answered.
-"Oh, you can just catch the elevator to the 5th floor" The girl said.
-"Thank you" Yoona said.
-"You're welcome" The girl said as Yoona left towards the elevator.
Yoona got inside the elevator nervously. And strangely there was nobody riding with her. She was feeling so nervous. Would she like her? They had only spoke through email...this would most likely be an interview...
"What if she doesn't like me?"
"What if I say something wrong?" Yoona thought.
-"Do I look okay?" Yoona said as she looked at herself in the mirror.
-"I think you look pretty fine" A voice suddenly said, startling Yoona.
She looked to the corner of the mirror and a small girl was there.
-"What? You didn't notice me?" The girl said.
-"I'm sorry...no" Yoona sincerely answered.
-"Well don't worry I get that a lot" The girl said.
-"You're an intern?" The girl asked.
-"Trying to be" Yoona said.
-"You'll be fine, just be careful of Jessica" Taeyeon said.
-"Thank You" Yoona said as the elevator doors opened and she got out.
The whole fifth floor was occupied by Tiffany's office, the board meeting room and the conference room.
Yoona was awed by the size and the modern look of the place.
She walked through the corridors until she got to a small desk. A girl was typing on the computer.
-"Hello?" Yoona said.
-"Oh, sorry didn't notice you, You're Im Yoona right? You're here for the internship, well...wait just a second, let me see if they're done" The girl said.
-"Oh, yes, yes" Yoona said as she looked down.
-"Don't be nervous, You'll surely get it" The girl said as she opened the door behind her desk and went inside the office.
Yoona just found on strange thing, was it supposed to be that loud? There was someone arguing inside...it was clearly audible.
Suddenly the girl from before came out and left leaving Yoona there alone. She scooted closer to the door to eavesdrop. She didn't mean to but, before she knew it, she had already glued her ear to the door.
-"I won't allow you to do more tests on that patient!"
-"Why not?! I know I'm close to the answer...just let me do one more test, I know it's the heart"
-"No! I said no!, You have already done more tests then you even should have and by the way what the hell does a Lumbar Puncture have to do with the heart?!"
-"I could easily diagnose congestive heart failure or Leukemia or a Metastatic Tumor. Also I did that in the begining of the diagnosis"
-"Yeah risking that your patient, could get severe brain sequels or even get Paraplegic"
-"No is a no! Now get the hell out of my office"
Suddenly the door was opened and Yoona came stumbling inside.
The two girls inside looked at her witha face of "What the hell are you doing here" and then changed to a "Who the hell are you".
Yoona noticing that suddenly bowed down in apology.
-"Who the hell is this?" The blonde girl in front of Yoona asked.
-"Probably the new intern" The girl by the massive desk by the window said.
Yoona could recognize the two anywhere. It was Jessica Jung and Tiffany Hwang.
"Not the best first impression..." Yoona thought.
Suddenly Yoona looked up to Jessica who was glaring her.
-"Did the Lumbar Puncture show any signs of heart failure?" Yoona suddenly asked.
-"Are those the symptoms?" Yoona said as she looked at the white board. Her expression clearly changing.
Tiffany and Jessica were left with mouths agaped, and just as Tiffany was going to say something Jessica lifted her hand stopping her, as she noticed the look in Yoona's eyes. Jessica looked at Tiffany and motioned no. Stopping the latter.
Yoona looked at the white board and concentrated.
"Dyspnea" *(Shortness of Breath)
"Syncope" *(Fainting)
"Palpitations"
Yoona thought as she read the board.
-"A disease that mimics con or congestive heart failure...but it's not" Yoona said as she was absorbed in thought.
The other two girls simply looked as they observed her thinking.
-"I got it!" Yoona suddenly exclaimed surprising both Tiffany and Jessica.
-"It's Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy!" Yoona said to Jessica beside her smiling.
*(Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a primary disease of the myocardium (the muscle of the heart) in which a portion of the myocardium is hypertrophied (thickened) without any obvious cause.)
Jessica looked at Yoona as if processing what she had just said.
Suddenly Tiffany spoke.
-"That actually seems...plausible" Tiffany said as she herself absorbed in thought.
-"I can't believe I didn't think of that" Jessica said.
-"I mean considering the patients age...I should have thought it was weird having a cardiac arrest...but I was considering Heart Tumors aswell" Jessica said.
-"Well, I'll let you test for HCM" Tiffany said.
-"Hum, yes that's probably the best thing to do" Jessica said as she left.
-"And you" Tiffany said to Yoona who was suddenly surprised.
-"Yes?" Yoona shyly said.
-"No need for interview, get to work now, help her test for HCM" Tiffany said.
-"But...there is a problem" Yoona said.
-"What is it?" Tiffany asked.
-"HCM, the only procedure that can reduce the thinckening of the Myocardium is a Septal Myotomy, it's a long and rather pain staking procedure...do you have any surgeon who can do it here? I mean..." Yoona shyly was saying.
*(Septal Myotomy. This is a complicated procedure because it requires the patient to be placed on cardiopulminary bypass, or the “heart-lung machine”, so that the surgeon can work on a still heart. In total, this surgery can last anywhere from 3 to 6 hours.)
-"We've got Kkab, she can do it don't worry, now go help Jessica, we'll talk about your internship later but the truth is that after what you've displayed here you've got it" Tiffany said as she quickly grabbed the phone and dialed a number.
Several minutes later
Jessica was preparing for the test a simple Echocardiogram would do the trick. She couldn't believe she didn't do this earlier.
Jessica then moved to the patient's room.
*(Echocardiogram, often referred to cardiac echo or simply an echo is a sonogram of the heart.)
Yoona though was lost in the hospital as she didn't know where was what and she had long lost sight of Jessica.
Suddenly Yoona heard Jessica's voice. She came inside the room. She was already performing the test.
Yoona just stood there. She didn't even had a gown. Jessica looked at Yoona smiled slightly.
-"It's confirmed, it's HCM" Jessica told Yoona as she finished and they both talked outside.
-"Who's performing the surgery?" Yoona said.
-"Tiffany is" Jessica said.
-"What?!" Yoona suddenly said.
-"What? She can do it, nobody has the fine hands that girl has...what would you know?...Newbie" Jessica said as she left.
Yoona then walked to the cafeteria where she ordered a coffee and waited for 6 long hours. Then she walked to the intensive care unit. Tiffany came outside and smiled at her.
-"You did well diagnosing HCM, I want you to stay, you seem to be a knowledgeable person, the interns dorms are on the building just in front of the hospital, come tomorrow at 10 and don't be late, or I'll be putting you in clinic hours" Tiffany said smiling.
-"And the surgery?" Yoona asked.
-"It was a success" Tiffany said.
-"Now go rest, hard work is only just begining" Tiffany said.
Yoona bowed and left smiling knowing that a life had been saved by her efforts.
-"So? How was she?" Taeyeon asked as she read a copy of Maxim.
-"She was...amazing actually different from the other newbies we have around here" Tiffany said.
-"She was so nervous on the elevator, should've seen her" Taeyeon said as she let out an ahjumma laugh.
-"She has a nice little " Taeyeon said as she flipped the page of the magazine.
-"Who? The intern?" Tiffany asked.
-"No, Bae Suzy" Taeyeon said as she pointed towards the cover.
-"Really Kim Taeyeon? Really?" Tiffany said as she rolled her eyes and left.
-"What? What's wrong with liking butts?" Taeyeon said mischievously as she d Tiffany and ran away, laughing.
-"Little demon" Tiffany said as she went inside the elevator.
Yoona went to the building that would be her home for the next few months or even a year.
It was a nice place. The lady from the entrance had given her a key. She opened the door to her small room and went inside.
So many things had happened today. Yoona couldn't believe it. She...got the intership. She couldn't be more happy. And so with a smile on her face Yoona slowly drifted to sleep. Her life here was just begining and her relationship with Jessica...was only starting.
A story about how a person can save another. In a hospital where is never a dull moment, please enjoy.
