The Strangers

Mo Chuisle

It was all very surreal and Yuri could not believe what she was witnessing. There was a girl floating in mid air in front of her,

with white wedding dress dancing in the wind and the harsh rain. Her long dark hair flailed wildly as if they had their own

mind. Both of her arms were stretched to the side and her eyes were wide, filled with hatred and anger.

“Die!” she roared and from the dark clouds in the sky, countless of lightning bolts came down and hit the rooftop. She

yelped and fell on her back in surprise.

“Oh, my God!” a voice yelled out and Yuri realized that Jessica was with her. The latter girl was just as terrified and she

kept on reeling back, moving away from the floating girl.

“Jessica! Sica!” Yuri crawled up and grabbed Jessica’s hand. “Run!”

The lightning bolts rain down the rooftop and covered everything in flashes of bright lights. Yuri pulled Jessica up and led

her to the door.

“Go!” she pushed Jessica in front of her. They went through the door and Yuri slammed it close. “You okay?!”

Jessica had her hands on and she was crying.

“Are you hurt?!”

Jessica shook her head as an answer. “What was that?!”

The sound of lightning clashing against the rooftop shook the building and it happened countless of times it felt like they

were in a war or something.

“Let’s go,” said Yuri. She took Jessica’s hand and pulled her down the stairs.

Before they could reach the bottom, the door behind them exploded and a lightning went through. The destroyed door hit

Yuri and Jessica on their back, sending them flying off the stairs and landed face first on the floor.

Yuri pushed herself up and looked for Jessica. The latter girl was lying a few steps away and when she was about to reach

for Jessica, the floating girl landed right in front of her. She hit Yuri’s chest with her palm and sent her flying across the

corridor, hitting a wall.

Yuri could not breathe after the impact and she coughed violently. She looked to where her friend was lying. The girl in the

wedding dress was walking toward Jessica and she grabbed her by the neck. With fast movement, the girl slammed

Jessica against the wall and choked her by the neck.

Jessica was helpless against the girl. All she could do was putting her hands on the girl’s shoulders, hoping that she would

let go but the grip on her neck was getting tighter and tighter. It was painful, too painful that she could not even speak.

She cried when she could not feel anything left on her body. Her hands dropped down to the side and she could barely

open her eyes anymore.

“Die,” the girl hissed.

Jessica closed her eyes and succumbed to the pain but before her consciousness went away, the fingers clasping her

neck lost their strength and she fell on the floor. The girl in the wedding dress yelled out in pain and her body spun out of

control before falling down on both knees. She had her left arm closed to her chest and she squirmed in pain.

Jessica coughed and breathed in as many air as she could. In front of her, the girl in the wedding dress was looking to the

side in so much more anger than before. And when Jessica followed her vision, she saw a familiar girl standing at the end

of the corridor.

“Tae-,” Jessica stuttered, “Taeyeon….”

Taeyeon stood with one hand raised in front of her chest. Yuri sat frozen on the floor watching what was happening.

Another stranger just walked into the middle of this and made everything a lot more confusing than it already was.She was

small, petite like a child’s doll, but from the stance she formed, Yuri knew that she was a formidable girl.

“Taeyeon…,” Jessica cried.

Yuri turned to her friend in surprised. She knew this girl?

“You... you broke my arm,” said the girl half whispering as if she was speaking to herself. And then she looked up and

roared like a maniac. “You broke my arm!”

A series of thunder echoed in the building when lightning bolts suddenly struck on its every corner and side. Yuri closed

her eyes and ears in fear as the floor shook violently.

Jessica pressed her body against the wall. It was her, it was the girl in the wedding dress, she caused this. She was the

one sending the lightning bolts down the building.

“Die!” lightning bolts came down the sky and hit the building mercilessly, shaking every foundation of it.

**

Rain drops were the only thing one could see that day on Seoul’s sky but if they would make a little bit of extra effort to

squint their eyes, they would find a small dot under the dark clouds moving so fast like an airplane.

It was a girl named Hyoyeon and she was flying across the sky as fast as she could. Her heart was beating fast and she

was worried, truly worried. It had been a while since Sunny yelled out in distress that way and it reminded her to a grim day

back in April. A day she would like to erase from her memory.

After flying for a few minutes, she found the puny girl running in the rain down on the pavement. She swopped down and

landed smoothly right in front of her.

“Sunny!” she shouted.

Sunny was blocking her face from the sudden wind that almost blew her away when Hyoyeon landed. “Hyo!”

“What’s going on?!”

Sunny looked around her, looking if anyone saw Hyoyeon coming down from the sky, but the street was almost empty

because of the rain. “Don’t do that! What if anyone sees you?!”

Hyoyeon took Sunny by her shoulders and then flew away again. Sunny hugged the girl as they floated away from the

ground before landing on top of a building.

“Yah!” Sunny moved a few steps back, “didn’t you hear what I say?”

“Are you okay?!” asked Hyoyeon, ignoring what Sunny just asked.

“Yes, yes, I’m fine. But Taeyeon!” said Sunny half shouting to beat the sound of the rain. “She ran off the house!”

“What?! Where?!”

“I don’t know!” Sunny walked to the edge of the building and looked down to the city.

“Well, try her phone!”

“She left it at home!”

“Then where did she go?!”

“I don’t know, okay!” Sunny shouted in frustration. “She said a name. Jessica. Jessica, or something….”

“Jessica? Who’s Jessica?!”

“I have no idea!” Sunny yelled.

The sound of thunder surprised the girls and made them duck down in reflex. Then, Sunny saw a series of lightning hitting

a building a few blocks away from them.

“Hyo! Look!” Sunny ran to the other side of the roof.

“What the-?”

“We went to the wrong direction! Let’s go, Hyo!”

Hyoyeon took a deep breath and swayed her hands a few times, commanding the wind around her to blow as hard as they

could and carried Sunny into the air before she jumped off the building. With the wind’s help, they flew fast across the sky.

**

The building shook so hard that Taeyeon had to hang on to the wall. The girl in the wedding dress in front of her was

screaming out of control.

“Leave!” Taeyeon said. “Go or I’ll break your other arm!”

The girl stood up and about to charge at Taeyeon but before she could even take the first step, her right arm was pulled

behind by an invisible force. “Argh!”

“Go!”

She screamed so loud it shook everyone’s insides. The lightning bolts attacked the building even harder, destroying some

of the walls and most of the windows.

“Go!” said Taeyeon.

“Die!”

A huge lightning bolt hit the roof and made a crack on the ceiling as well as shaking the entire building. Taeyeon lost her

footings and fell on one knee. She lost her control on the girl’s arm. Taeyeon quickly raised her hand up in fear that the

girl would do something but she was wrong.

The girl in the wedding dress dropped down in a sitting position. She was coughing so badly and spewing blood from her

parted lips. She then looked at Taeyeon in anguish and then tears trailed down her cheeks.  “Die…. All of you…. Just

disappear....”

Then time seemed to stop when Jessica felt a cold chill down her spine. A sensation she felt when a ghost was around.

She moved to the side and saw a man went through the wall behind her. The man was wearing a tuxedo – his body was

half transparent – and he looked down at Jessica before walking slowly toward the girl in the wedding dress.

The man went down on both knees and hugged the girl from behind, placing his chin gently on her shoulder. Jessica

watched the girl’s anger, her rage, had gone completely and she was now in utter sadness.

The ghost moved his lips, whispering something to the girl’s ears, but she could not hear it. She could not even feel his

presence. Jessica held her breath and then she looked at Taeyeon. The latter girl was just as in awe as Jessica. She

heard it too.

“Taeyeon!” a voice shouted from the open gap left by the destroyed door. Another puny girl stood there, wet by the rain

and stared at Taeyeon in concern. Then, another girl came out from her back, also looking at Taeyeon.

Sunny and Hyoyeon.

When they came, the ghost transformed into a white smoke and disappeared. The sorrow went away from the girl’s eyes

and in exchange, came anger and hatred.

“I’ll erase all of you!”

Then, she kicked the ground and flew toward the two girls by the door. She hit Sunny on her way out, lifting her up and

slammed her on the rooftop.

“Sunny!”

The girl flew away into the grey sky, blending in with the rain and disappeared.

“Sunny!” Hyoyeon helped the girl up. “You okay?”

“Yes, yes,” Sunny pushed herself up and looked at Taeyeon. “What the hell was that?!”

Taeyeon, seeing her two friends had arrived, dropped her guards. She leaned on the wall and looked at Jessica. “Are you

okay?”

Jessica was too frightened to answer. She simply looked Taeyeon with teary eyes.

“I made it,” Taeyeon smiled and then she closed her eyes, “I made it in time….”

“Tae-,” Jessica was about to move closer to Taeyeon when the two new girls ran inside.

“Taeyeon!” Sunny one grabbed Taeyeon by the shoulders and shook her violently. “No, no! Taeyeon!”

Hyoyeon stood worriedly behind her and put her hand on . Seeing that, Jessica felt something heavy fell into her

stomach. Something was happening to Taeyeon and it was not good.

“What’s going on?” Jessica stood up, “what’s wrong with her?”

Yuri jumped up and ran to Jessica, stopping her from getting close to Taeyeon. “No, let’s go.”

“But-,” Jessica’s eyes were fixed to Taeyeon and no matter how hard Yuri pushed her away, she kept on moving forward.

“Let’s go, Sica.”

“I want to know if she’s okay, Yuri, let go,” Jessica persisted.

“Let’s just go!”

“Let me go to her!”

“Jessica!”

Sunny held Taeyeon tighter. “God damn it, Taeyeon! Wake up!”

Hyoyeon turned her back and cried. “No, no, no. Not like this….”

“Wake up, Kim Taeyeon!” Sunny shouted.

But the pale girl did not react. Her eyes were shut tight and Jessica knew that something bad had happened.

Chapter 13: I had to reread the story and I noticed that you have edited it a bit. A few scenes were deleted but not much. Still, this story is really good. I remembered reading it the first time and was hooked by your story-telling and still feel the same way when I reread this. I'm really curious how the story will go and especially what happened back in April. Thank you for this update.
